5 Reasons to Join Costco & 3 Reasons Not To

Don't Join If Stores Are Far Away

One reason not to join is that your closest Costco is not nearby. This makes using the gas benefit hard and it can negate a lot of the benefits from buying groceries at Costco unless you make special trips. 

While I focus on buying electronics and items that are not perishable, I don't shop at Costco as much as I would like to because the closest store requires a specific trip to get there. 

It's also worth checking what the store sells by going with a friend first. After joining I discovered Costco in Ohio does not sell spirits like those . in nearby states, which was one of the reasons I joined.  

Unlike Sam's Club, you cannot order Costco items online for in store pickup when it comes to groceries and other bulk items. This alone is not a deal breaker for me because I am able to make the membership work with online purchases, but it could be a dealbreaker for you.
