Do you want better AirPods water resistance? If so, you should definitely wait for the AirPods 3. 

While you won't likely be able to go swimming with them in, we could see Apple bump up the water and sweat resistance in line with the AirPods Pro, which is IPX4. 

This is still just water and sweat resistant, not waterproof or sweatproof, but if you plan on wearing your AirPods in the elements or while working out this is a good reason to wait and see what happens with the next model.
