Samsung Confirms 8-Inch Galaxy Note Coming To Mobile World Congress

Published

on

Samsung will show off its new 8-inch Galaxy Note tablet at Mobile World Congress next month, according to Engadget.

The news of the Galaxy Note 8.0 comes from Samsung mobile chief JK Shin talking to Korean publication iNews24. Shin previously confirmed the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to the same Korean publication, which makes this confirmation easier to believe.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is rumored to have an 8-inch 1280×800 display, which is the same resolution as the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet the company introduced last year. The tablet will also likely use a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor, not the Exynos Octa that Samsung debuted at CES.samsung-logo-1

Samsung’s new 8-inch tablet will likely use Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s tweaks, including apps specialized for the S Pen and the ability to run two apps on-screen at the same time.

According to Sam Mobile, the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will also have a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. Inside the tablet will also likely have 16GB or 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, a 4600 mAh battery and a HSPA+ radio for data.

Unless Samsung goes the same route as the Google Nexus 7 with an unlocked 3G option, the HSPA+ radio seems unlikely in the U.S. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 debuted in the U.S. with a Wi-Fi only option and recently came to carriers with a 4G LTE option.

Last year Samsung used Mobile World Congress to debut its Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. If Samsung follows a schedule similar to last year, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be the only device the company shows off at MWC.

In that case, Samsung will likely wait a few months to unveil the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. The Samsung Galaxy S4 with a rumored 1080p display will likely launch sometime this Spring, according to recent rumors and leaks.

On 13 December I got my Note 2 which replaced my stolen S2. I have not opened my iPad3 since then and I will sell it next month.

I was going to wait a few months to see what the next crop of Windows 8 Pro tablets would be like,

This Note 8″ looks ideal for note-taking (just that much bigger than the Note 2 which i will still keep) in meetings, easy to slip into a jacket pocket, big enough to watch a movie, TV or do some sofa-surfing.

    Goodbye iPad

Really keen on this one – I’ve been waiting for Samsung to bring out the 7 inch note and it turns out it’s an 8 inch. It’ll be just the right size to carry about (my 10″ is too big for that) and take notes at work, home, do all kinds on the commute, etc. Roll on March!
