Samsung Droid Charge Launch Pushed Back?

Published

on

According to a report from Droid-Life, the launch of the Samsung Droid Charge has been delayed and speculation rests on the nationwide 4G LTE outage that has been afflicting Verizon’s network since earlier today.

Apparently, Verizon managers are informing their employees that the Droid Charge launch will be pushed back to an unspecified date, likely as soon as Verizon’s engineers can get the issue under control. There is some hope though as Verizon has yet to confirm this.

Verizon’s  HTC Droid Incredible 2 is also scheduled for launch tomorrow but it more than likely will not be affected because it doesn’t have a 4G LTE radio inside of it. The news also comes on the heels of confirmation that the 4G LTE Motorola Droid Bionic will be coming with a new form factor when it’s released at some point this summer.

The Samsung Droid Charge is set to become Verizon’s second 4G LTE device after the HTC ThunderBolt and comes equipped with a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus display, a single-core 1GHz processor, an 8MP rear camera, a 1.3MP camera, 4G LTE capabilities, and it will be powered by Android 2.2 Froyo with Samsung’s TouchWiz software on top of it.

Update: 4G LTE service seems to be coming back for some people (including one of our editors) so it’s possibly that the Droid Charge might still launch tomorrow as expected. Also, in a bit of strange news, the new Droid Charge promo video is now private lending credibility to a possible delay.

I was looking to get this device. When I saw all the marketing was pulled from the main site and it was not available for upgrade, I called sales. They confirmed that it has been delayed indefinitely. The sales guy I talked to did not get the email until this morning about it. Very disappointing.

I called my local BestBuy Mobile store and they said they have them in stock.
