Vodafone Australia, a carrier that is well known for releasing very specific Android update schedules, has released its latest addition and this new schedule outs some very interesting details including some that could apply to other carriers around the world.

As we’ve noted many times, Australian carriers are very forthcoming about Android update information and we pass along their information in an effort to paint a broad picture for Samsung Galaxy device owners around the world. Typically, Aussie carriers are on the back end when it comes to release timing, something to keep in mind as we discuss these new Galaxy KitKat update details.

The carrier’s latest update confirms a number of interesting details including the release dates for two new Android 4.4.2 KitKat roll outs. The carrier is currently pushing out the Galaxy S4 mini Android 4.4.2 KitKat update to users and it comes with a variety of enhancements and fixes. It’s a massive update for one of Samsung’s lesser known phones.

Tomorrow, the carrier will start pushing out its Galaxy S4 Cat.4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update after a stint in testing. The update, which was confirmed months ago, will also deliver a handful of fixes, enhancements and features. These roll outs are a good sign for other Aussie carriers who have also been faced with setbacks and delays during the Android 4.4.2 KitKat roll out process. It’s also a good sign for other international carriers that are struggling at this point.

That’s not all. The carrier says that its awaiting a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung and that the version, at this point, is unknown. Samsung’s already delivered Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates to some carriers so it could be that the company pushes out an Android 4.4.4 KitKat to Galaxy Note 3 users in Australia. The carrier says the same thing about an upcoming Android 4.4 update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.

Vodafone’s regular Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains in testing and it will likely remain there for at least another week as the company works to get it prepared for arrival. The same can’t be said for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates, both of which remain missing months after they were first confirmed.

The fact that Vodafone continues to promote a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat though is a great sign for other Galaxy S3 users still on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It means that it’s still expecting the software in from Samsung.

All of these updates come during a month where Google is expected to replace Android 4.4 KitKat with its next major release, Android L. A rumor from SamMobile puts Samsung’s first Android L updates in November or December. This is exciting because it’s the first we’ve heard of Samsung’s Android L update release plans. The company though remains silent about what it has in store for Galaxy users in the future.

The first two Android L updates are rumored to be for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 though we expect a number of Android L updates to eventually roll out to older devices. Here’s a list of devices we expect will get Android L:

  • Galaxy S5
  • Galaxy S5 mini
  • Galaxy S5 Active
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 Active
  • Galaxy Note 4
  • Galaxy Note Edge
  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note 3 Neo
  • Galaxy Alpha
