15 New Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat Update Details

Published

on

The past two weeks have been extremely exciting for Samsung Galaxy owners as Samsung finally started rolling out its highly anticipated Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. With Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4.4 KitKat update details swirling and many owners still stuck on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, we want to take a look at a ton of new Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat update details.

At the beginning of June, Google released two new Android 4.4 KitKat updates. First, it was Android 4.4.3. A few days later, the company pushed out Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Both were, and still are, bug fixers aimed at squashing major Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems.

In the past three months, we’ve seen several Android manufacturers make it a point to deliver these two updates to smartphone and tablet users. And while it waited several weeks, Samsung has finally joined the Android 4.4.4 KitKat party and Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners are now in the midst of a fairly widespread roll out.

These last two weeks have been extremely active ones for Samsung as the company finally delivers Google’s current version of Android 4.4 KitKat. Android roll outs, especially Samsung ones, can be extremely confusing and hard to follow. Samsung doesn’t communicate well with its customers and its roll outs are typically random. This is where we come in.

We’ve seen a ton of new Android 4.4 KitKat  details, more specifically, Android 4.4.4 KitKat update details emerge in recent days and we want to round all of those details up for you in one easy to follow breakdown. There is a ton of news, some of it small, some of it big, and here we take a look at the latest Samsung Galaxy Android 4.4 KitKat update details we’ve managed to dig up.

Let’s start with the good news.

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Release Begins

The T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update started rolling out yesterday. T-Mobile is the first carrier to the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat and the first carrier, that we know of, to deliver Samsung’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to the form flagship.

T-Mobile’s Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update has been confirmed by an update to the device’s software support page on T-Mobile’s website. The change log states that the OTA update, which is available right now, comes with Wi-Fi calling enhancements and a shift to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. It’s not clear what else it has on board though we suspect that it comes with essential bug fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems.

Those with the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 should be able to pull the update right now and as of right now, we haven’t heard about any major issues with this new firmware.

Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out

In addition to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, Samsung’s started pushing out the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. Thus far, we’ve seen two Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates roll out though we suspect that we’ll see some more roll out before the year is over.

Verizon

Samsung’s first update was to the Verizon Galaxy S5. The Verizon’s Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update pushed out just a few short days ago. There is still no change log for the update though it could be that it enables Advanced Calling 1.0. This would allow it to join Verizon’s VoLTE. VoLTE is a term used for Voice Over LTE.

Optus

It also looks like Australian carrier Optus has pushed out an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. SamMobile’s firmware page still lists it as having Android 4.4.2 KitKat but the carrier itself claims that it delivered Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

We’re still not sure what’s going on here but the update did arrive the day of the Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update so there’s a good chance that it’s rolling out. It’s not clear what’s on board.

Sprint

We also recently spotted the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update lurking on Sprint’s website though it hasn’t been released. It’s not clear when Sprint plans to release the update but given its appearance and Verizon’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll out, we could potentially be close to another U.S. Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Pushing

Sprint has, however, started rolling out a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. Sprint’s Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, as far as we know, is the first of its kind.

The update appears to be rolling out slowly and it comes loaded with new features including bug fixes and enhancements. It’s an update that Galaxy Note 3 users on Sprint will want to consider. Here’s the full change log:

  • Android 4.4.4
  • HD voice Icon support
  • International Wi-Fi Calling support
  • Google Security Patches
  • Knox 2.0
  • Kids Mode

Samsung has also started rolling out the Galaxy S3 Neo Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in Kazakhstan. The update is available Over-the-Air and it’s available through the company’s Samsung Kies software for PC. It’s not clear what’s on board though the update is expected to deliver crucial bug fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems.

It appears, according to SamMobile, that this update has reached another device. An updated update list lists the Hong Kong version of the GT-I9300I (Galaxy S3 Neo) as having Android 4.4.4 KitKat. In other words, it looks like Samsung is slow rolling this update, per usual, but that it’s spreading to other devices in other parts of the world.

And now, let’s get to the other stuff.

Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Delay

Galaxy-Note-2

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has been rolling out since April. It’s hit a number of devices in the United States and elsewhere and it continues to roll out. However, there are a number of carriers that are still stuck on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean including T-Mobile in the United States. We’ve spotted new details regarding other Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates and we want to share them here.

Optus

Despite announcing a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update in the first half of the year, Samsung is still struggling to get Optus’ update in for testing. In its latest update, the Australian carrier says that it’ll “begin testing this version as soon as Samsung makes it available to us.” That doesn’t sound good though it could mean that we’ll see Android 4.4.4 KitKat instead of Android 4.4.2 given the delay. Stay tuned.

Telstra

Another Aussie carrier, Telstra, says that it too is experiencing a delay. Unlike Optus, it’s pretty specific. The carrier says that its Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update (version unknown) is still in the “Testing” phase. Furthermore, it says that “Samsung have further delayed test submission to 12 September.” This has apparently pushed its release back into October.

Vodafone

Vodafone Australia is back with another updated update list. Instead of a specific ETA for the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update, the carrier now says that it’s awaiting the software from Samsung with no ETA in sight. Bad news for Galaxy Note 2 owners Down Under.

(Note, we track these Australian carriers because they allow us to gauge timing for other parts of the world.)

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Updates MIA

The Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has been pushing out since early 2014 and we’ve seen a number of Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates land in a number of different parts of the world. There are, however, still some places that are waiting for it. We’ve spotted some new details that aren’t pretty, at least for those in Australia.

Optus

Optus says that its update is still not in testing and that it’s waiting on Samsung to deliver the update. It has been saying this for months now. In other words, its release date is now completely up in the air. And so is the version. With a Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update now rolling out, don’t be surprised if it shifts to the newer update.

Vodafone

Like the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update, Vodafone no longer lists a specific ETA. Last week we were looking at an ETA in September. That has been wiped from the board and it’s not clear why.

Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update first started rolling out at the beginning May but we still haven’t seen it take a giant leap. In fact, today, we’ve noticed that it’s taken a step backwards.

Vodafone

Vodafone, the only international carrier to confirm a Galaxy S3 LTE Android 4.4 KitKat update, has taken down its October ETA and replaced it with a much vaguer release window.

I have the android 4.4.4 version on my S4 and it’s a T-Mobile phone, however I’ve been experiencing the sound going to mute randomly as in no sound at all (music, games, sound notification, calls, ect). I have checked to make sure the phone is on sound and volume is up but still no sound, sometimes restarting fixes the issue, sometimes it doesn’t and if it does fix the problem, the sound will mute again in a bit. I feel like this is the software issue and not a hardware as the speakers work fine when the sound is working.`
