on

Samsung continues to roll out new Android 7.0 Nougat builds which means Galaxy S8, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Tab owners (and owners of other Galaxy-branded devices) should start preparing for new software. A little prep work could go a long way toward preventing Nougat problems.

The Android Nougat update is moving out to the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 EdgeGalaxy Note 5Galaxy Tab S2, and a few other Galaxy devices. The company is also pushing brand new Nougat builds to its flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

These Android Nougat updates are based on Android 7.0 (Samsung might be planning Android 7.1 upgrades but nothing is confirmed) and they deliver new features, bug fixes, performance enhancements, and an array of problems including severe battery drain.

Android Nougat and Nougat bug fix updates are expected to hit more devices throughout the year so now would be a good time to start taking some steps to prepare yourself, and your device, for what’s next.

It’s impossible to predict what Nougat problems you and your device will encounter after installing Android Nougat or an Android bug fix update. That’s why you’ll want to prepare before you make the jump to a new piece of Nougat firmware.

Get Familiar with Android 7.0 Nougat

There are a several steps to take before the Android Nougat update arrives for your device. One of the first steps is to get familiar with Android Nougat and more specifically, Samsung's version of Android Nougat. It's different than Google's.

Samsung's version of Nougat incorporates some of the features Google introduced to its Nexus line of devices last year.

We recommend getting familiar with the base version of Android Nougat. To do that, take a look at our Android Marshmallow vs. Android Nougat walkthrough.

The walkthrough will take you through the key differences between Nougat and Marshmallow and that will help you get familiar with the changes coming aboard your Nougat update. The more comfortable you are ahead of your release the better.

You'll also want to get familiar with Samsung's version of Nougat because it comes with some major tweaks to the user interface, some new modes, and a whole lot more.

To help you do that, take a look at Samsung's updated consumer guide for the Galaxy S7 and the guide for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. There's also a Nougat guide available for the Galaxy S6.

We've also put together a list of the most prominent features in our Samsung Android Nougat roundup and it's worth a look if you didn't follow Samsung's Nougat beta for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

Furthermore, if you own a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge you'll want to take a look at our list of reasons to and not to install Nougat on your device.

Just check the Samsung Theme Store and download a black-based theme. I understand you, I had the same problems with the white interface, so I downloaded a black-based theme from the Samsung Theme Store. Should work for Nougat, too. (tip: aim for a simple theme, like the ones made by “Kendi” who are named “Material Black” or “Touchwiz black”: they’re the black version of the standard Samsung interface, only with black background).
