Samsung Galaxy Android 8.0 Oreo Release Date Emerges

The first Samsung Galaxy Android 8.0 Oreo release date details have emerged and it looks like the company is hoping to release one batch of updates in early 2018.

As we push deeper into the fall we continue to see Samsung Galaxy Android 8.0 Oreo rumors and details emerge. The company is reportedly testing Android 8.0 Oreo on the Galaxy S8 and rumors suggest that it’s planning an Android 8.0 Oreo beta for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users.

Samsung itself is mum about its plans for Android Oreo though Samsung Turkey appears to have confirmed some crucial details about the Galaxy Android Oreo release date.

Samsung Turkey recently published key information about its plans for Android 8.0 Oreo. The guide outlines potential features and it also outlines when it expects to push the first Android 8.0 Oreo updates live for Galaxy devices. Unsurprisingly, the timeline mirrors what Samsung did in 2016 and 2017 with Android Nougat.

The regional arm says it aims “to present the new operating system to you at the beginning of the new year.” It doesn’t outline a specific date nor does it specify which devices will get the software at the beginning of next year. Samsung Turkey might be a regional wing, but it released accurate information during the Android 7.0 Nougat roll out.

On top of a potential release date, the bulletin also reveals a few of the features coming with Samsung’s version of Android 8.0 Oreo:

  • The Android 8.0 operating system will help minimize the background activities of applications you recently used in your device.
  • It will allow your applications to open faster.
  • In addition, new emojis and picture in picture (PIP) features are the newest features to enhance the user experience.
  • You will now see small notifications for the last notification received on your notification apps.
  • With predictive text selections, you can see the appropriate application suggestions for your chosen text.
  • With Night Mode, you will be able to browse web pages without disturbing your eyes in the dark.

Like the release date, these features are subject to change based on testing behind the scenes.

This is the first Samsung Galaxy Android 8.0 Oreo release date information we’ve seen and it lines up with everything we’ve heard about Samsung’s plans.

The company is supposedly planning a Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo beta. A beta would give Galaxy S8 users an opportunity to try out Oreo’s new features and test performance.

Nothing is confirmed, but Samsung pushed betas for Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat. The betas were reserved for select devices in select regions.

Last year, the Android Nougat beta launched on the select Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge models in the United States, UK, Korea, and China.

Samsung’s Android Nougat beta stretched from November into late December with the first official Android Nougat updates landing a few days later in early 2018.

The Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 should be first in line for Android 8.0 Oreo though we expect popular devices like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to get upgraded to Android Oreo as well.

The company’s list of Android 8.0 Oreo update should also include the Galaxy A7 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017), Galaxy A3 (2017), Galaxy J7 (2017), Galaxy J5 (2017), Galaxy Note 7 FE, and Galaxy Tab S3.

Samsung’s Android Oreo roll out will be extensive, but popular devices like the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 are in danger of missing Android 8.0. Samsung typically offers major software upgrades for two years before cutting off support.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 might not get Android Oreo, but Samsung and its partners should continue to support them with bug fixes and security patches well into the future.

Now that Samsung’s regional arms are talking about Android 8.0 Oreo we should see some movement in the near future. Be on the lookout for new details, and a beta, in November.

Samsung Galaxy Android Oreo: 5 Things to Expect & 3 Things Not To

Expect a Samsung Galaxy Android Oreo Beta

Expect a Samsung Galaxy Android Oreo Beta

Unless it drastically shakes things up, we expect Samsung to release an Android Oreo beta for select Galaxy devices.

In late 2015, Samsung released an Galaxy S7 Nougat beta. The beta gave users a chance to try the features early, but more importantly, it helped Samsung squash bugs ahead of the software's release.

This wasn't the first time Samsung publicly tested new Android software. The company also ran an Android Marshmallow beta for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5 back in 2015. The Galaxy Note 7 wasn't included in the Nougat beta because, well, it started blowing up.

Nothing is confirmed, but it looks like the company is prepping an Android Oreo beta for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Look for the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and, perhaps, the new Galaxy Note 8 to take part. If you own an older device like the Galaxy S7 or a mid-range device , your chances of seeing a beta are much slimmer.
