Samsung Galaxy Note 2 U.S. Launch Date: What Not to Expect

Published

on

Later on this month, on October 24th to be exact, Samsung will likely spill the beans about its Galaxy Note 2 U.S. launch plans. The carrier has already announced that the Galaxy Note 2 will be heading to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon in the future, but many of the details still remain a mystery.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for the U.S., as we have seen, will likely be the same device that has already launched internationally in regions like the United Kingdom. It will feature a 5.5-inch HD display, quad-core processor, 4G LTE speeds – even for T-Mobile, an S-Pen stylus which adds the ability to write or draw directly on the screen, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to go along with two cameras.

The Galaxy Note 2.

Needless to say, there is quite a bit of interest in the device, and in addition, the event itself. And while we have already taken a look at what consumers in the U.S. should expect from the Galaxy Note 2 launch event in the U.S., we wanted to make some predictions about what not to expect from the event.

Here is what we don’t expect to happen on October 24th.

A Lengthy Announcement

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has already been announced and that means that we won’t likely see the launch event take much more than an hour, if that. At the original Galaxy Note 2 announcement and the Galaxy S III event, Samsung went on for well over an hour about the devices and all of their features.

We don’t expect Samsung to make a lengthy announcement out of the U.S. Galaxy Note 2 launch. Expect something more like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 event in the U.S. which lasted for about 45 minutes.

This makes the event a perfect, end of the day activity for those on the west coast as the event starts at 7PM EST.

Surprises

Again, because Samsung has already divulged most of the details regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, we expect that this launch event will be pretty straight forward, meaning, don’t expect any surprises to be unveiled at the event.

Don’t expect any surprises for the U.S. Galaxy Note 2 models.

Instead, look for Samsung executives to take the stage in an effort to remind consumers in the U.S. as to just how beautiful of a device the Galaxy Note 2 truly is.

That means talking about the benefits of its large display, its speed quad-core processor, its 4G LTE data speeds which can reach up to 10 times faster than normal 3G, and of course Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which brings a host of new features and improvements over the past operating system, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Lack of Details

Why host another Galaxy Note 2 launch event if you’re not going to give consumers the details they want? Right now, the Galaxy Note 2 in the U.S. is missing a specific release date and pricing for all but the U.S. Cellular model which will be priced at $299.99 on-contract.

We do not expect Samsung to let this event pass without these details coming to light as the press already went hands-on with the phablet, the devices already passed through the FCC and because we already have all of the hardware and software details.

What’s left?

Release date and pricing for all five carriers.

Galaxy Note 2 Only

Yes, the event will likely be straight-forward, but we also don’t expect the Galaxy Note 2 to be the only thing that Samsung announces on stage. We don’t expect Samsung to announce any new hardware products, but the company might announce accessories for the Galaxy Note 2.

It would also not be shocking to see Samsung announce some sort of timetable for the wireless charger for the Galaxy S III, something that was rumored for September, but has still yet to launch in the U.S.

Silence About Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Samsung just posted a new timeline for Jelly Bean updates in the United States. The only device to appear on the list, besides the Nexus devices which were already updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, is the Galaxy S III whose Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is listed as coming soon to the AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon models.

We don’t expect Samsung to let this event pass without at least mentioning this update for the Galaxy S III and maybe even for devices like the Galaxy Note  and Galaxy S II which were suspiciously left off the list even though their updates have been confirmed.

Those interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 though need not worry. The device ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s latest piece of mobile software.
