Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Apps List Hints at 5 New Features

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is just a day away from an official unveiling at IFA 2013 in Berlin, and the leaks continue to highlight possible new features for the Galaxy Note 3.

As consumers eagerly wait for the new Galaxy Note 3 to arrive on store shelves, insiders are leaking details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3’s potential features.

While we still don’t know what the full Galaxy Note 3 looks like, a new leak hints at a multitude of new features for the new phablet.

This is how the Galaxy Note 2 could stack up compared to the Galaxy Note 3.

This is how the Galaxy Note 2 could stack up compared to the Galaxy Note 3.

We gain a confirmation of some features already expected like a 1080P HD display and S Pen apps as well as a possible fingerprint reader.

Noted phone leaker evleaks shares a list of 276 Galaxy Note 3 APKs. An apk is an android installation file or app, and this list shows at least some of the apps that will be installed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, according to evleaks connections.

Alone a list of 276 Galaxy Note 3 apps doesn’t tell perspective buyers a lot about what they can expect, but after digging through the list we were able to pull out a list of apps that hint at new Galaxy Note 3 features.

5 Potential Galaxy Note 3 Features

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will take the stage in a day and we will learn all about the new features, but a new list of pre-installed apps hints at what Samsung could announce at the Galaxy Note 3 event during IFA 2013.

New S Pen Features

The list of apps includes SPenSdk3.apk, which could be a new major version of the S Pen software development kit. This is a major jump from the current S Pen SDK 2.3, which Samsung is using on the Note and Note 2.

Look for the S Pen to play a major role on the Galaxy Note 3.

Look for the S Pen to play a major role on the Galaxy Note 3.

This would also line up with the Samsung Developers Conference schedule which shows a session that will offer a, “Detailed View of What’s New in S Pen,” at the start of the event.

According to evleaks, there is not much new for the S Pen, writing “stylus functionality the same as first two Notes.” It is possible that this is referring to the hardware of the stylus only, and Samsung will deliver new S Pen features and built-in apps for enhanced usability.

Galaxy Note 3 Fingerprint Reader

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could include a fingerprint reader to beef up security of the device. It would make sense given the Knox security suite which will likely be on board and Samsung’s continued marketing toward businesses.

A fingerprintservice.apk file caught our attention while looking through the list. Rumors from May suggested Samsung was planning to build a fingerprint reader into the Galaxy Note 3 and upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5.

In July a report claimed the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would no longer feature a fingerprint reader. SamMobile claims that the Note 3 will not come with a fingerprint sensor.

It is possible that this is a leftover apk from previous work on a Galaxy Note 3 fingerprint sensor, or we could be in for a surprise.

Remote Control Software

We could see a Galaxy Note 3 feature come from the Galaxy S4 in the form of an IR blaster that turns the Note 3 into a smart remote control.

The Samsung Galaxy Note app list includes Peel and WatchON, two apps that play a central role in the remote control functionality of the Galaxy S4.

We expected a remote control function on the Galaxy Note 3, but it is good to see more support of this potential Galaxy Note 3 feature.

Full HD Display

At this point the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is all but confirmed to arrive with a 1080P HD display, but there are several apps in the list that reinforce this point.

The Animatedscene_fhd.apk and Collagefhdh.apk point to further support of a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display.

Not shown in this leak is an alleged Galaxy Note 3 lock screen wallpaper with a 1920 x 1920 resolution. The Galaxy Note 3 display is reportedly 5.7-inches in size.

Find My Galaxy App

Samsung and Apple are under pressure to limit the appeal of smartphone theft through services like Find My iPhone, authentication and Lojack for Mobile Devices.

The Galaxy Finder app could be a Samsung version of the new Android Find my Phone app and service.

Google recently rolled out an option to most Android users, but manufacturers like Motorola are also using their own service to track lost or stolen phones.

Samsung’s partnership for Lojack doesn’t include lost phones, and includes a $30 annual fee.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 should come with a familiar plastic design that looks like a mix of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2, and it looks like it will be a very similar size.

Rumors point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 3GB of RAM and a 32GB storage option with Micro SD card slot in the U.S.

We could see a very fast Galaxy Note 3 release date with rumors pointing to pre-orders as fast as September 16th and a release before the end of September.

Just a stretched out S4 with a better cpu camera is the same. Disappointing no flexable screen. But still leaps ahead of my Note 1.

Smartwatches. For now, is there really a need or desire for flexible displays? I like my phones with flat screens.

You are definitely clueless. Samsung Knox, Samsung Orb, new Spen support, 3gb of ram, Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3 ghz, 32gb/64gb of internal storage, sdcard expansion up to 64, Android 4.3 straight out the box, Lte Advanced capabilities, new bluetooth and wifi standard, and various other features DOES NOT MAKE THIS THE GALAXY S4.

I wish someone would explain the benefit of a flexible display? I understand how one could argue for a plastic display if it was more durable or somehow scratch proof even though gorilla glass 3 is nearly scratch proof with the benefit of the clarity and sheen of glass. But what would a flexible display do that would be so beneficial? Someone please enlighten me on this as I see no point other than for wearable items or unique rounded or curved style phones. I just cannot see the point that people keep bringing up flexible display for a slate tablet styled phone like the note 3?

Flexible display means the display is able to flex without shattering. Given the plastic construction of the Galaxy range, the phone can and will flex. Gorilla Class is rigid, with a high tension embedded in the glass, so a case flex can trigger a break. This is mitigated by a ‘flexible’ display, even if it looks for all and intents and purposes to be flat/rigidly held within the frame.

I know 4 people with a note 2….All of them have broken screens…My wife is one of them…never broke a screen once in her life…It was a two foot drop with a very thin case, I do not believe it would have damaged most phones screen. I believe the size of the note surface makes it more prone to damage, thus a flexible screen should give some durablity

I have a Note 2 and have done the same. When I had the iPhone 5, I’ve dropped it many times without the screen cracking. The one time I dropped the Note, it shattered. More screen real estate = being more prone to cracking the screen when dropped.

You could put it in your back pocket and not crack the screen i would think one be one use for a flexible screen.

It’s not actually really flexible, it just can bend a bit better than the average smartphone screen.

I sure hope Samsung comes out with 2 versions of the Note 3. A 5.68 and a 6 in version. Or just goes all out with a 6 in.If not I will be selling my note II for a HTC One Max. It also looks real good too. We will find out tomarrow. Can’t wait.

I am with you, if they come up with a 6″ version, then I will upgrade. If not I will pass.
I held a Mega 6.3 yesterday and it feels awesome and just the perfect max size for me. I am not upgrading for not even .2″ increase :/

Here is a youtube video on why flexible OLED sreen are nice and what they can do with them. You are going to have to excuse the lame acting on the video they show.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_38khPjnsg&feature=youtube_gdata_player

The main purpose of the Flexible OLED screen is the unbreakable part. It has nothing to do with the phone flexing, just that the screen not breaking. They will also be able to put other uses for it something Gorilla Glass can’t do. As screens get bigger, they get easier to break because there is more surface. Gorilla Glass can only do so much.

Glass is nice but it seems every time they make it stronger they use a lot less of it. Put a thicker screen in and be done with it. I don’t need a 8.1mm thick device that shatters when I fart if an 8.3mm version can be dropped from space and survive. Never broken a screen and hope I never do. Thick screen and metal body is a must have for me.

So nothing new. Another evolution and some software tweaks. I never use any of the “S Pen” apps. They all just take memory on my phone. Wish I could uninstall them.

Silly people complain about no flexible display – LOL I want to see them using flexible smartphone and complain how annoying it is never to be able to make it perfectly flat again.
