Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Release Date: Final Details for Buyers

Published

on

Today, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date landed in more than 140 countries around the world, not including the United States. In just a few short days, the Galaxy Note 3 will get released in the U.S. after a bit of a wait and here, we take a final look at how the release date is going to play out next week.

On September 4th, Samsung took the stage in Berlin, Germany to show off the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, its brand new large-screen smartphone that arrived today in a host of countries around the world and will be heading to the U.S. and Japan in October.

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 features a number of upgrades over the Galaxy Note 2, a list that includes a faster processor in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, a larger 5.7-inch display that offers 1080p resolution, a 13MP camera, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, new S Pen features including Air Command, enhanced multitasking, and a brand new design that slims the device down and makes it less heavy than the Galaxy Note 2.

On paper, the Galaxy Note 3 is looking like a top-notch smartphone and one that buyers in the United States will want to have near the top of their list when it does finally arrive on shelves.

While the features have been nailed down, the Galaxy Note 3 release date in the United States is still twisting and turning, with several details still unconfirmed. In recent days, we’ve seen a number of different Galaxy Note 3 rumors emerge, even as the company prepares to unleash the device in the United States.

Ahead of its release on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless, it’s time to take one final dive into the Galaxy Note 3 release date in order to present a clear picture for those that are planning to buy the Galaxy Note 3 in the United States.

Galaxy Note 3 Release Dates

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release in the United States has been a walk in the park compared to past releases. That’s because Samsung, and the carriers involved in its launch, coughed up details well in advance. Typically, buyers had to sit around waiting for carriers to get their details in order, something that often took weeks.

Instead, we have most of the Galaxy Note 3 details ironed out ahead of time and the U.S. release date is shaping up to look something like this:

  • AT&T Galaxy Note 3: October 1st
  • Sprint Galaxy Note 3: October 4th
  • T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3: October 2nd
  • Verizon Galaxy Note 3: Shipping by October 10th

A few things to note here. AT&T says it will be shipping the device out on October 1st though we expect devices to land on that day or perhaps even before it. The carrier has not yet confirmed an in-store release date though we imagine that it will fall in and around October 1st. Consumers who have made up their mind can pre-order it now ahead of release.

Sprint will be releasing the Galaxy Note 3 both in-stores and online on October 4th. There is currently no pre-order for the device and given the close proximity of the release, we don’t expect there to be a pre-order for those that wish to order early. Something to keep in mind is the fact that Sprint won’t be charging $299.99 on-contract like AT&T and Verizon. It will be charging $350 on-contract, a $50 price difference.

AT&T will ship the Galaxy Note 3 soon.

AT&T will ship the Galaxy Note 3 soon.

T-Mobile is currently offering a pre-order for the Galaxy Note 3 and it says that it will be available online and in-stores on October 2nd, just a day after AT&T. It no longer makes customers commit to a contract so buyers will encounter a vastly different price model than the one offered by the other four carriers.

Finally, Verizon still has not settled on a firm release date for the Galaxy Note 3 though the carrier is quick to note that the device will ship by October 10th. We fully expect the device to land in stores sometime around that date though the carrier may not cough up specifics until it starts pushing out the device to those who pre-ordered.

U.S. Cellular Committed to October

U.S. Cellular is the only carrier that hasn’t offered up any details on the Galaxy Note 3 though we expect it to cough up the goods soon. The carrier has told Gotta Be Mobile that the device will be out in October but the regional carrier, and the nation’s fifth largest, remains tight-lipped about a specific release date.

We’ve theorized that it’s still trying to work out specific release dates due to the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c launch. The carrier has all but confirmed those devices and it could be that it’s trying to figure out a release path.

U.S. Cellular users will likely get a release date and pricing very, very soon as the carrier won’t want to give an edge to the larger carriers.

Tons of Accessories on the Way

As we’ve pointed out, the Galaxy Note 3 is going to have a number of accessories available to it. Samsung’s website has confirmed an S Charger Kit for those that want to charge their Galaxy Note 3 without wires, an extra battery kit for those that need extra juice, S Charger Cover, S View Cover Wireless, and a desktop dock.

Samsung will be releasing several different Galaxy Note 3 accessories.

Samsung will be releasing several different Galaxy Note 3 accessories.

While we know that these are on their way, there is a caveat. It’s not clear when these accessories will be hitting the United States. Typically, Samsung takes its sweet time to get its accessories out to the market so it could be that not all of these are available on release day. We could see some of these wind up in carrier stores but look for availability to vary from carrier-to-carrier.

Still, this is a coup for Galaxy Note 3 buyers as Samsung did not make it clear that these accessories were on the way, instead, choosing to quietly confirm them for arrival.

Those who don’t want to wait for the official accessories will likely have an assortment of third-party accessories to choose from on release day.

Black & White

Those who are going to buy the Galaxy Note 3 in the next few weeks are going to have to settle on either the black Galaxy Note 3 or the white Galaxy Note 3. At the launch event, Samsung confirmed a pink Galaxy Note 3 for arrival but thus far, carriers have been reluctant to offer details on the device leaving ar release up in the air.

samsung-galaxy-note-3

Previously, we had heard that the pink Galaxy Note 3 would be arriving sometime in October. The U.S. typically gets new colors later than other regions so it could be that a pink Galaxy Note 3 won’t arrive until much later in the year, if at all.

Samsung typically releases more than just a few colors for its Galaxy Note series though in the past, we’ve seen colors become exclusives to carriers. Bottom line, those holding out for anything other than black or white are going to be waiting a while.

32GB

Samsung is going to be releasing a 16GB Galaxy Note 3 in some markets it seems, just don’t expect the United States to join the party. Carriers have shown an unwillingness to offer multiple storage variants for the Galaxy Note 3 and we don’t expect the 32GB model to be joined by 16GB or 64GB models in October, or, ever.

Still No Deals, But Keep an Eye Out

We haven’t spotted any Galaxy Note 3 deals for devices headed to the United States just yet but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any deals to be had on or around their release dates.

In fact, we fully expect retailers like Amazon to offer immediate discounts on the Galaxy Note 3. Exactly how deep those discounts will go is unclear but in the past, we’ve seen as much as $100 taken off in the weeks after an Android device’s arrival. With Black Friday approaching and the smartphone market as hot as ever with the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c now on shelves, look for the $299.99 price to fall soon.

In other words, buyers shouldn’t feel pressured to pre-order.

New Galaxy Note 3 May Not Come to U.S.

Surely, Galaxy Note 3 buyers in the United States have heard the news. Samsung is coming out with a device that has a curved display, a flexible display, in October. That device is almost assuredly going to be a Galaxy Note 3 limited edition and from the looks of things, it’s going to be limited to the Korean market.

There are a ton of people in the United States that would love a Galaxy Note 3 with an unbreakable display but we wouldn’t get those hopes up. Instead, this is likely a domestic play by Samsung that will be aimed at trying to steal attention away from an LG smartphone that comes with a flexible display. Translation, it’s not going to mass produced.

U.S. carriers have shown a willingness to carry different models carrying Galaxy branding but the Galaxy Note 3 with flexible display is a long shot.

There is, however, a rumor that suggests that Samsung will be bringing a cheaper Galaxy Note 3 to the market, one with a different design, 8MP camera, LCD display as opposed to AMOLED, and an S Pen. This device is apparently going to be heading overseas though its exact destinations remain unknown.

This new Galaxy Note 3 has the best shot of making it to the U.S. but even then, we think the odds are slim. Point is, buyers shouldn’t get their hopes up for a second Galaxy Note 3 release date in the United States.

International buyers of the Note3 should be aware thst even “unlocked” or “sim free” models are restricted as to the sim cards they will opeate with even if the radio is compatible. The version just launched in Europe will not work with sims from carriers outside the European Union as some Australian customers importing them from Europe have discovered to their dismay.

I just called my local best buy. Said they expect it end of next week on Verizon. Fingers crossed! On the site it now says Oct. 4 for both Sprint and AT&T….weird.

Has anyone got an idea why Verizon’s release date is later and alone on an island in the middle of September? I know not quite middle…just sounded better that way. I am not upset…I practice patience. e.g. Already pre-ordered phone, case and screen protectors. (latter two from SPIGEN) Is Verizon in bed with Apple and want iPhone sales to dry up a little (if that is even possible) before they release the Kraken? Are they last (or second to last, come on US Cellular, in the supply line? Just curious. Any good ideas? And why can’t tech journalist write a fun article about these question instead of literally spewing the exact report with different title day after day?

I was just about to pre-order one… then I saw it in comes in pink. I may just be the one crazy enough wait for it. I’ve waited this long anyway. I expect it should be out by very latest December in pink. (T-Mobile is only charging $199 upfront on pre-order.)

I can’t wait to get my hands on the Note 3. Unfortunately, the Pink edition which I want, won’t be available here in the New Zealand until December.
