Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs. Galaxy Mega: Specs Won’t Compare

Published

Samsung is rumored to be bringing two new large-screen smartphones to shelves in the future with the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3, originally thought to be called Galaxy Fonblet. Their sizes will likely creep into the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 domain but from a specifications standpoint, it doesn’t look like they will be any match for the Galaxy Note 2 successor.

For the past few months, we’ve heard that Samsung might be offering up two new large-screen smartphones. Originally, both of those devices were called the Galaxy Fonblet, before recent rumors suggested that they would actually be called Samsung Galaxy Mega. The whispering suggests that Samsung is going to be introducing two Galaxy Mega models, the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Galaxy Mega 6.3. Until today though, besides the screen sizes, we didn’t know much about Samsung’s new phablets.

The Galaxy Note 3 likely won't be rivaled by the Galaxy Mega, at least not specs-wise.

Today, SamMobile has seemingly leaked out the specifications for both the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Galaxy Mega 6.3. And if they are the real deal, and they likely are, then these devices pose no threat to the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 except with the sizes of their display.

Starting with the Galaxy Mega 5.8, it supposedly has a 5.8” qHD, less than HD resolution, display that is paired with a dual-core processor, 8MP camera in back, 2MP camera in front, 1.5GB of RAM, 2,600 mAh battery, and a 9.7mm frame. As for the software particulars, it is said to have Android Jelly Bean and Samsung’s TouchWiz software.

As for the larger Galaxy Mega 6.3, the device will evidently have a 6.3” PLS HD display (unclear if it’s 1080p or 720p though we imagine 720), dual-core processor, 8MP camera in front, 2MP in back, 3200 mAh battery, 7.9mm frame and Android Jelly Bean with Nature UX over the top.

The Galaxy Mega 6.3 is listed with a release date that should be coming during week 20 of this year which translates into a release between May 13th and May 20th. That date could of course change as time goes on.

As it stands, both devices look like they will appeal to consumers, but it’s unclear just where these might be headed. Prior to the Galaxy Mega leaks, we heard that the Galaxy Fonblet would be for Europe, so it’s unclear if it would head here.

What is clear though is that these, despite their size, likely won’t be any match for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in the specs department. The new Galaxy Note 3 is said to feature a Exynos 5 Octa octo-core processor, an improved S Pen – neither of these have an S Pen it seems, and a flexible unbreakable display.

The Galaxy Note 3 is rumored for a September launch, possibly at IFA in Berlin, and while these Galaxy Mega devices are looking good, don’t expect them to steal much, if any, of the Galaxy Note 3’s thunder.

Count Samsung Galaxy Win in as well. Announced today with some decent specs. Put camera and display aside that is one cool device as well.
