A new Samsung Galaxy device will be hitting the United States this week, but it isn’t the Samsung Galaxy S4. Instead, it’s the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, Samsung’s new tablet that it will be bringing to shelves as a likely competitor to Apple’s smaller tablet, the iPad mini.

In February at Mobile World Congress, Samsung revealed its latest Samsung Galaxy Note model though it wasn’t the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Instead, it was the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, a tablet that will be heading to shelves in just a few days to take on the iPad mini, Apple’s 7.9-inch tablet that arrived just ahead of the holidays last year.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 will hit the U.S. this week for $399.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 becomes the second Galaxy Note tablet to hit shelves in recent months joining the much bigger Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which arrived last year. The Galaxy Note 8.0, as can be surmised by the name, is an 8-inch tablet that, like the other Note models, comes with Samsung’s S Pen stylus that allows owners to take advantage of the device’s display and a host of unique applications. The screen is a mere 1280×800 resolution, however.

It also features a quad-core Exynos processor, 16GB of storage with 64GB microSD card support, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz on top of it.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a bigger, better display with a 1080P HD resolution.

The Galaxy S4 still doesn’t have some release dates set in stone for the U.S.

Until today, it was unclear just when it might be landing in the United States to compete with the iPad mini and now, we finally know. The device will touch down on April 11th for $399 and it will be available through a host of retailers including Amazon and Best Buy. At $399, it will be slightly more expensive than Apple’s cheapest iPad mini which starts at $329.

The arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 comes before the Samsung Galaxy S4 release in the United States. The Samsung Galaxy S4 will go up for pre-order through AT&T and Sprint ahead of its arrival on an as of yet unknown release date. T-Mobile will be releasing it on May 1st in the U.S., just a few weeks after Samsung’s latest tablet arrives.
