Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Event Confirmed

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 release date is almost here. Samsung will formally announce and launch the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23rd at multiple “Unpacked” events around the world. That said, the main event is in New York City at 11:00 AM ET. Here’s what we know so far for prospective buyers.

After months of reports and rumors going back and forth on the dates, today the company sent out invites putting all those rumors to rest. It’s now official and we’ll have all the details in just over one month.

The teaser image and invite below gives us a few hints at what’s coming next. Samsung’s teasing a phone with an edge-to-edge display and a slightly wider and squared design. Suggesting the phone will look similar to the popular Galaxy S8, only bigger.

You can clearly see a phone that looks almost identical to the Galaxy S8, which happens to match all the latest rumors and leaked renders. It’s safe to say this will officially be the Galaxy Note 8 launch event. Giving Samsung a few weeks to prepare and release the phone ahead of its rival, the iPhone 8.

Last year the Galaxy Note 7 arrived two weeks after the launch event, meaning we could see the Galaxy Note 8 hit shelves around September 6-9th.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. Expect Samsung to focus a lot on the big beautiful display, then talk about the battery. After the recalled and exploding Galaxy Note 7, the company implemented an 8-point battery inspection system. This should let everyone know that the new Note 8 is safe.

As for rumors, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect already. All leaks point to an improved yet similar design with a massive 6.3-inch Quad-HD Infinity AMOLED display. The most important new feature though is likely the new dual cameras on the back of the phone. Samsung looks to jump in the dual camera race to compete with Apple, LG, OnePlus and many others.

One leak suggested the secondary camera will allow for 3x optical zoom for improved photography and portrait photos. We saw something similar from Apple with the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, although it featured a 2x zoom. A few leaks claimed Samsung will deliver a secondary AR camera to use with its Gear VR headset, but that’s unconfirmed.

Other reports suggest powerful specs with upgrades across the board, a new and improved S-Pen stylus with a built-in haptic feedback vibration motor and other changes. For now, though, we’ll have to wait through another month of rumors before it’s officially unveiled on August 23rd. Stay tuned for more details.

Wait If You Want the Best Display

If you want the biggest and best smartphone display on the market, Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 will be the phone to buy. In fact, we're hearing it will have a huge 6.3-inch Infinity Display that looks great. Earlier this year the company debuted the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Both of those phones have bigger screens than any prior year, and tiny bezels or black bars around the screen.  The Galaxy S8 release tells us a lot about the upcoming Galaxy Note 8. Samsung will likely offer a similar screen where there are no physical button or a fingerprint scanner. It's all screen on the front. The sides will curve off the phone, and the black bars of bezel at the top and bottom are very minimal. Which gives it an edge-to-edge look Samsung calls an Infinity Display.  Samsung went from 5.5-inches in the Galaxy S7 Edge to 6.2-inches with the Galaxy S8+. The company offered the same big jump from the Galaxy S7 to the Galaxy S8, and we anticipate the same for the Galaxy Note 8.  If you want a big 6.3-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Infinity Display with tons of space for apps, games or business, the Galaxy Note 8 will be worth waiting for. Recent leaks suggest the bezels could be smaller than what we see with the Galaxy S8 too, making it feel like the entire phone is all screen on the front.
