Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Firming Up

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date continues to firm up ahead of Samsung’s official announcements as new Galaxy Note Edge release details reveal the company’s plans for consumers in one important market.

On September 3rd, Samsung took to the stage at Unpacked 2014 and introduced several new products including an Apple Watch competitor called Gear S, an iPhone 6 Plus competitor called Galaxy Note 4, and a brand new flagship product called the Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge is the company’s new high-end version of the Galaxy Note that comes with a screen unlike anything Samsung has ever put on a Galaxy smartphone.

Samsung confirmed all of the Galaxy Note Edge specs but it failed to confirmed many of the device’s other key features including the Galaxy Note Edge price and the Galaxy Note Edge release date. Both of those details remain a mystery even though the Galaxy Note Edge release date is confirmed for sometime later on this year.

Today, Samsung unexpectedly revealed some new Galaxy Note Edge release date information. According to comments made to Canadian outlet CTV News, Samsung is planning a Canadian Galaxy Note Edge release date in 2015. The company did not outline any other details though it did mention that the country would be behind the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date. The reason? So that the company can integrate LTE carrier aggregation technology into the device.

It’s not clear what this means for the Canadian market, a specific release date wasn’t given, or the U.S. market. Samsung and U.S. carriers confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge for 2014 though they have yet to supply any concrete details ahead of the fall and the holiday shopping season. U.S. carriers have remained focused on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 instead.

Despite the lack of official information, we’ve started to see Galaxy Note Edge release make progress behind the scenes. Earlier this month, one Galaxy Note Edge variant passed through the FCC. We also recently spotted a Bluetooth certification for an international model and earlier this week we told you about several Korea-bound Galaxy Note Edge variants that passed their Bluetooth certifications. These certs are all necessary ahead of release.

UK retailer Clove also recently passed along some new Galaxy Note Edge details concerning the device’s upcoming release date in the United Kingdom. The retailer claims that the Galaxy Note Edge will not be available in the United Kingdom right off the bat and that the delay will probably impact other nations in Europe as well. It’s not clear if Europe will be pushed into 2015 or if Samsung will deliver the Galaxy Note Edge release this year.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, with its curved display, might cost more than the Galaxy Note 4. Amazon Germany is charging nearly €1000 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Same goes for Dutch retailer Notebooksbilliger. By comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 looks like it will cost €699. A note on Weibo from an alleged China Mobile employee suggests that the Galaxy Note Edge price could be expensive in China as well.

Samsung’s new smartphone is one of the year’s most interesting smartphones as it combines a bent display with a number of high-end features. Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16 Megapixel Rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame.

These features help to put it on par with the Galaxy Note 4, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and it’s a device that consumers should keep their eyes on as we enter into the fall and the start of the holidays.

You mean apple released the iPhone 6 plus, a galaxy note competitor.. I think note deserves that considering they’ve been around for over 3 years with the note series now

I love how you are a “phone racist”. At the beginnig you talk about how Samsung announced an “Apple watch competitor” in the Gear S. I do believe that Samsung was the first to release a viable smart watch and Apple is the one catching up. And the Samsung Note 3 is 10X the phone that the Apple 6+ is and it was out prior to the Note 4. FOR ONCE, can we say that Apple is catching up to Samsung instead of the other way around?
