Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Update Officially Pulled

Published

on

Samsung UK said last week that it was investigating the issues that were reportedly plaguing the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. Now, it appears that the company has halted the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update so that it can investigate the many issues that users say arrived with the software roll out earlier this month.

Just a few short days ago, Samsung began rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, a highly anticipated update thanks to the features on board. The update not only brings Galaxy Gear support but it also delivers many of the features of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and software features from the Samsung Galaxy S4. It represents the biggest update to the Galaxy S3 since the arrival of the Premium Suite.

Shortly after it started rolling out, we reported that users were experiencing a number of big time issues with the software, with one owner claiming that he was dealing with no less than seven issues including:

  • Phone restarting itself.
  • When phone is locked and asleep, press either home key or lock key and nothing works. Battery must be removed.
  • During some incoming calls the screen doesn’t display caller and the ringtone is “spluttery”.
  • Alarm works only sometimes.
  • Heavy battery drain during a ten minute call. It dropped by 12%.
  • Notification bar shows apps that have already been downloaded. Clear them and they reappear again.

We have confirmed several of these issues with other Galaxy S3 owners as well as Samsung’s social media accounts have been flooded with complaints and generic responses from Samsung. Last week, there was speculation that Samsung had halted the update and today, the company has evidently confirmed that it has pulled the update while it investigates these issues.

According to Galaxy S3 users, Samsung support has started sending out emails suggesting that the software’s roll out has been stopped. One user claims he got this message from Samsung:

“Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.

I apologise that you have been experiencing issues with your Samsung Galaxy S III after the most recent update to JB 4.3, I understand this must be frustrating as updating should be an easy process.

As we are currently investigating the reported issues with Galaxy S3 4.3 Jelly Bean update, the upgrading service has been temporarily suspended.

We are committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience, and will ensure to resume the upgrading service at the earliest possibility.

Once the issues have been resolved an update will be released to get your device back in working order.

If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.”

Our Customer Support Team love feedback! Share your thoughts on this response by completing the survey at the bottom of this page.”

Samsung does not say how long the fixes will take which means that users who already installed the software will be dealing with problems for the foreseeable future while those who haven’t seen the update will be left on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean without support for Galaxy Gear.

We’ve speculated that these issues are the reason why AT&T and Sprint missed their rumored Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out dates and that these issues will more than likely push other Galaxy S3 updates out from their expected release dates in the U.S.

It seems a lot of the problem is a lack of memory, once 4.3 is installed. If you can disable as many running process as possible (getting rid of bloat will do that), then things improve greatly.

I updated to 4.3 and my phone was unusable it dropped calls, restarted for no reason, never rang on several occasions but showed I had missed calls. I used Odin and put 4.1 back on the phone.

I used 4.3 for a few days. My GS3 was slow unresponsive poor battery life and unreliable. Flashed 4.1.2 with Odin back to its great self. To anyone doing the same read up on the correct release of 4.2.1 to get or you could suffer with the IMEI problems detailed at various sites found easily using your favourite search engine

For a very long time I had a problem with my Galaxy S3 very short battery life. Charging phone 3 times a day drove me crazy. I tested couple cheap batteries from ebay but they didn’t hold good charge longer then for 2 weeks and then I found this inexpensive batteries. For $16.99 two batteries and charger it is really great deal. That is why I’m sharing this link with you.

I use my s3 almost constantly throughout the day, calls, games, video, ALWAYS wifi and data enabled and go to bed with about 25% battery, charged overnight for another day’s pounding. You’re either a bigger user than me or you got a bad unit, change phone not battery.

This should make people realize why Apple charge a bit more for their phones. Severe problems like these don’t happen as they control both the hardware and the hardware. I have a Samsung S3 and my next phone will be an iPhone.

Instead of succumbing to the shackles of Apple why not use the strength of the platform you are on and make your phone exactly what you want it to be. Root it install a custom recovery so you can make a complete system backup. Then you can put one of the many great roms available for your device with whatever features you want and themed to the colors you like the best. Do you realize you can not even use a different keyboard if you want to on an I-phone and that you will be very limited on what you can do to make your phone the way you like it because there are no alternative launchers like on Android. No choice of screen size no widgets and an old Hello Kitty looking Operating system. Why not have choice and stay free !

Exactly, what Brett says is why I’d never use an iPhone.

100% agree with Brett. Root +cmw+(multiple) custom roms. 3 reasons why I would never touch an iphone.

This is typical for Samsung. We have been waiting for this update for a long time and its always something. They changed the dates so many times. I will be cancelling my galaxy gear because who knows when this update will happen or even if it does.

experienced 6 out of 7 mentioned problems except alarm problem. Hope that doesn’t happen! Heavy battery drain during all day. When changed to battery save mode, drain was even heavier! !! When on wifi continously appearing messages that I am connected! The upgrade is really horrible

It’s not just the GS3 that is having these problems with 4.3 – My Note 3 is having many of these same problems including the home and power button not responding at times and the alarm clock not working. I even exchanged my phone for a new one and it’s still doing this. After doing an Internet search, I’m not the only one either. I hope Samsung comes to a quick remedy soon because otherwise all these phones are just basically useless if you can’t trust them to wake you up or even unlock when you want to.
