Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch Date Now Pegged for April

Published

on

A new report suggests that Samsung will be announcing its next Galaxy smartphone, dubbed Project J, in April. Project J is presumed to be the Samsung Galaxy S4 and that means that the Galaxy S4 now has yet another rumored launch month ahead of the start of 2013.

According to SamMobile, Project J is the project name for the next Galaxy smartphone, which will more than likely be called the Samsung Galaxy S4, keeping in line with the earlier versions of the phone which include Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3.

Evidently, this Project J device is slated for an unveil during the month of April and not February as has been previously rumored. Earlier rumors suggested that Samsung would be announcing the device in February at Mobile World Congress 2013, a date that falls well short of a year since the company announced the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 launch date could arrive in April.

Last year, Samsung announced the Galaxy S3 in May and released in some regions that month. In the United States, the smartphone launched in both June and July after a brief delay.

So, this April timing makes a little more sense given that manufacturers often wait close to a year before releasing a new flagship device. Samsung also used its own event to announce several of its devices this year and it would be odd to see the company return to announcements at trade shows. However, because the device is still unofficial and because Samsung is rumored to be announcing a new 4.99-inch AMOLED 1080p display at CES, there remains a chance that February could be the month.

The company has yet to confirm anything related to the Galaxy S4 which means interested parties will almost certainly have to wait until 2013 for any kind of official information about the Galaxy S3’s successor.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to include a massive display, possibly 4.99 to 5-inches, a quad-core processor, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and a 13MP rear camera rounding things out.

In addition to these devices it seems that Samsung may be prepping for a cheaper version of the Galaxy Note 2 in Europe and a new tablet with a QWERTY dock to fight off the Asus Transformer Pad series.

Should I upgrade to the S3 then or no? I have the HTC Thunderbolt and want to desperately get a new phone. Should I honestly wait that long for the S4 or go ahead and get the S3?

If you need a phone in the next 3 months look at the HTC DNA or the Nexus 4. You can also get an iPhone if you are into iOS. The Galaxy SIII is almost outdated but is still a great choice but you may feel terrible in 6 months

Chris, I’m in the exact same boat, but I have never had any luck waiting on a new phone to be released. I waited for the Droid Bionic, finally settled for the Thunderbolt, and I’ve regretted it ever since. I can’t imagine the S4 actually 1) Being relased 2) Being released in a reasonable time frame 3) Being worth waiting for. Just my two cents worth.

I’m not sure how you can imagine the S4 not being released. It is samsungs bread winner. They are not going to stop making the galaxy. There is as big of a chance of it stopping as apple discontinuing the iPhone.

I had the Thunderbolt and got so sick of it I sought out a used Droid Razr on Craigslist. Was lucky enough to find one new for $100 and it’s been awesome, especially coming from the BlunderBolt. The S3 is almost getting to that “old news” phase so I’d wait. If I were to upgrade right this moment the Droid DNA makes the most sense, even with my grudge against HTC now for the Thunderbolt ICS mess….
