Samsung Galaxy S4 to Decimate HTC One Shipments 5 Times Over

Published

Industry estimates claim the Samsung Galaxy S 4 will beat the HTC One with five times as many shipments in May, forcing HTC to play catchup.

The HTC One beat the Samsung Galaxy S4 to market, but numerous delays brought the two releases close and will continue to hamper the HTC One’s success.

J.P. Morgan estimates HTC One shipments will hit 2 million in May, signaling an end to any supply chain shortages. While these numbers are respectable, and much higher than those for the Nexus 4 three months after launch, they pale in comparison to rumored Samsung shipments.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 shipments are set to outpace the HTC One by 5 to 1 in May.

Additional rumors from DigiTimes claims Samsung will ship 10 million Galaxy S4 units in the first month it is available and 30 million by the end of June. Money Talk, a Korean news publication also claimed Samsung plans to ship 10 million Galaxy S4 devices in the first month, and Jeffries Analyst Peter Misek backs up Samsung’ bold plans with talk of 100 million Galaxy S4 units overall.

In short, Samsung is set to ship five times as many Galaxy S4 devices in May than HTC. If Samsung estimates start in April, when the Galaxy S4 first goes on sale, we are talking about a 10 to 1 shipping ratio in favor of the Samsung Galaxy S4. No estimates of HTC One shipments for June or for the overall quarter are available, though it is unlikely to see a ramp up to Galaxy S4 levels in such a short time.

The HTC One is now available on T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint and will soon be available in stores and in a variety of third-party retailers. Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders are live on AT&T, though the AT&T Galaxy S4 release date is still up in the air. Sprint plans to release the Galaxy S4 on April 27th and T-Mobile on May 1st. Verizon just committed to a May Galaxy S4 release.

The HTC One brings a 4.7-inch 1080P HD display, all metal design and HTC Sense 5 to the table, with an emphasis on build quality. Samsung delivers a plastic design with a 5-inch 1080P HD display and focuses on software features combined with motion sensors to stand apart. The Galaxy S4 offers eye-tracking, motion control and a touch free display.

    Quality over quantity any day.

They’ll probably have to sell twice as many phones as the next competitor simply to pay for their marketing budget.

Call me fickle but it takes a very exceptional device for me to pick the market leader in anything. I tend make an effort to stand out from the crowd and so whilst I’m very happy for Samsung to do well, I’ll never buy a phone from them simply because of their ubiquity.

Besides, doesn’t decimate mean to reduce by a tenth?

The Company selling second catches up to the One selling first.

I do not doubt that Samsung (or Apple) will sell more but the HTC One is
sold out where I bought mine (today). Now HTC will have money to make
a second Batch and can guage their success.

There WILL be a “better” Phone in 3 to 4 months (than the One or GS4)
so if you want the “best” Phone you must wait – forever.

I am confident that even 5 years down the road I will NOT be tossing out this One !
I may well buy a newer Phone but there will be no shame in owning the HTC One.

The HTC One is probably hands down one of the best phones I’ve ever owned. I believe Samsung knows HTC made a fantastic product because they hired people to defraud HTCs products. Hopefully HTC will remain a major player in the mobile space. The HTC One is simply great

Just because there’s shipments, it doesn’t translate to purchases… Who knows? There may end up being millions of dusty boxes of S4’s just sitting in stock rooms…!?! LOL!!!

    Decimate is 10 to 1 ;)
So to decimate 5 times over I’d accept you meaning that it will be 100000 times more (10 to the power of 5) or even just 50 times more.
Whilst in your first line you state that you mean that the shipments are expected to be 5 times more.
If you were simply using decimate abstractly to mean that it would be an extremely large number, it becomes similar to a double negative.

And yes I am a fan of the one :)

What a stupid comparison. Both cars have the same fundamental features but the difference in quality, performance and especially the price is vast. Both phones in this instance are essentially the same with very similar features, primarily differing in build materials and camera.

      I despise stupid people.

how does metal automatically translates to quality over plastic? To be more precise, Samsung uses poly-carbonate, which is high quality modern material. I can’t wait till I see drop tests on these phones and see some dings and scratches. Then, we’ll talk some more on build quality.

I agree. Metal overrated. Besides if you what it to stay scratch or dent free, you have to use a case. I like the HTC One but metal not the main reason.
