Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 vs. HTC One vs. Galaxy S3 Photo Samples

Published

on

The first set of Samsung Galaxy S4 photo samples are out, and they offer a comparison to the HTC One, iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

During the Samsung Galaxy S4 event Samsung wouldn’t let us take sample photos with us, informing us to stop mid-S Beam, but with a Galaxy S4 out in the wild we now have a closer look at some Samsung Galaxy S4 photo samples.

On the upside, these Galaxy S4 photo samples show how the camera compares to the HTC One, iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 in a variety of settings, but unfortunately there are no full size sample photos to look at. Until the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, that’s what we’ll have to settle on.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 photos come from Romeo White of Mobile-Review, the same Russian site that provided the Samsung Galaxy S4 video samples yesterday. White posted the trio of photos on Twitter and we also get a detailed run through of the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera app in the video below.

The video is in Russian, but even if you don’t understand it all, the video still offers a good overview of the Galaxy S4 camera app that users can expect on the new version of TouchWiz.

The reviewer walks through various camera settings, showing off the Dual Camera mode, zoom, the 100 shot burst mode and a look at several other modes.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 includes a panoramic photo feature similar to Photo Sphere, though it looks like it is not 260 degrees. Even in another language the 11-minute video offers a good look at the Galaxy S4 software.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Photo Samples

In the three Samsung Galaxy S4 photo samples we get a photo of a bike wheel, a photo of some painted pictures and a photo of text on a printed piece of paper.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Outdoor Photo Sample

The first Samsung Galaxy S4 photo sample shows us a bike tire advertisement. The sample is quite small to make judgements, but the Galaxy S4 appears to deliver better detail around the center of the tire, specifically compared to the Galaxy S3. When looking at some of the best smartphones of 2013, the Samsung Galaxy S4 delivers a good photo that is on par or better than the iPhone 5. THe HTC One sample here appears to be taken from farther back, making a comparison of features tougher.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Close Up Photo Sample

The second Samsung Galaxy S4 photo sample shows a photo of a printed page, with a close up of the text. The Samsung Galaxy S4 shines in this sample with the sharpest photo and a clear black and white photo. The iPhone 5 is blurry, so it may not be focused correctly. The HTC One delivers a decent photo, again with a large view, which makes us think this is a feature of the camera rather than the photo being taken farther away. The Samsung Galaxy S3 sample is good, but the paper is yellowish and the text is not as black as the Galaxy S4 sample photo.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Photo Sample Detail

The final Samsung Galaxy S4 vs iPhone 5 vs HTC One vs Galaxy S3 photo sample is of a set of paintings in an outdoor market. We saw these same photos in the video samples yesterday. Today we get a better look at the artwork and a chance to see how the Samsung Galaxy S4 compares to the competition when it comes to details. The frames of the photos and the flowers offer a chance to compare the captured images.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 13 MP camera which appears to deliver good-looking photos. We were impressed with the images we took during our Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on, and we look forward to seeing more full size Samsung Galaxy S4 photo samples as the device arrives on store shelves.

I would have to say that this test is inconsistent and not reliable. I have a Galaxy S3 and the quality of pictures it takes far exceeds the pictures taken from friends and family on their iPhone5. However, at night I have found the iPhone 5 to take better pictures than the S3.

I would assume that the Galaxy S4 would surpass all of these in picture quality, and that’s something not evident in the above pictures. The pictures are not a reliable for a proper test.

i like galaxy s4 – but other than the text close up – iphone 5 seems to slightly beat the galaxy s4

it’s really hard to make a call when there seems to be not enough consistency in photo set-up. There is consistently different distances and focus. Why was the iPhone the only pic to crop out the gmail logo? I would like to see a better test. Meanwhile I’ll be letting WishPlz inform me of price drops on the S4. https://bit.ly/XRexQQ if anyone wants to join me.

Seriously.. what idiotic tests, different distances and angles? Worthless photos/comparisons.

I have a S3 and was waiting to upgrade to the S4 for the wireless charging, but found out it’s a $100 add-on. Then I found the Monster Watts Stealth wireless charger SET for $40 and that comes with the S3 thin receiver. They also just announced yesterday that they would allow people to trade in the S3 receiver when the S4 one is available-which is unheard of.

The white balance on the s4 is better, color reproduction as well, the whites on the iPhone 5 and the others are over saturated (yellowish tint), and obviously its going to win in sharpness cause of the 13 mp camera with a higher pixel density. The iPhone 5 HTC one and the galaxy 3 have a wider angle lens though, that’s a plus

I would love to know how a web site can make any camera comparisons when between these four devices from the images above there are no specific parameters reached in any of the images detail above. I call fail on the person who wrote and took these pictures, the pictures are taken from all different distances and angles so how could one even judge to see which one is the best. An on top of that you have people in this comments section arguing which one takes the best picture based on the images above. Come on obviously commenters on this page have no idea what the are talking about, and are just out to argue for old names sake. In my opinion fail on the pictures and fail on the author for writing this with unsubstantial evidence to back up any point of view. I also call fail on any commenter trying to persuader any one any way based on these shotty pictures.

Why are the photos not taken from the same distance, any fool can take a close up pic and make it will mostly look beeter then the others. loos like someone favours the S4

The different distances and focus you see are because the photos are 100% crop you’ll notice that the galaxy s 3 and iPhone 5 show roughly the same area because they are both 8mp while the 13 mp seems zoomed in more and the 4mp/up seems further out. They are showing the same number of pixels.

Ha ha.. You are funny. Definitely an ISheep. Galaxy Note 2, HTC One, HTC OneX, and the new Nexus phones put the Iphone 5 to shame. The Iphone 5 looks just like the 4S, 4, 3S, 3 and so on. I didn’t even know my sister had gotten the new Iphone till she had told me and I had to take a better look at it. Apple is on cruise control and the other phone companies are flying right by. Apple use to be the best but not after 2010. Stuff that is on the IPhone 5, Android has had since 2010. But Apple wants you to think it is new and their idea. Sorry but I will take my Galaxy Note 2 over any Iphone any day. I like the fact that I can customize my phone to my liking and not be restricted on anything. Plus I also dont need any of those bulky cases to protect my phone because I don’t have to worry about it shattering.

    Whatever iPhone is iPhone
Samsung just give the more hardware like 13 MP but iPhone has perfected the 8MP and for the processor dual core is more than enough (we don’t play black ops 2 on mobile so we dont need a quad core) iPhone gives the best hardware and software for now on. Galaxy s4 is so big (not a normal phone) and iOS 6 beates android.

I bet you’re an Apple fanboy. How on earth is iOS better than android?? Today iOS is a garbage OS compared to Android. When it comes to Hardware I’ll have to admit Apple does a great job, yet it can’t be compared to the 1080p Super AMOLED panel or the Exynos 5 Octa-core processor and the powerful GPU of the Galaxy S4.
You don’t play Black Ops 2 on mobile? Well, many people play games heavier than Black Ops 2 on their phones and tables. By the way you should know that Black Ops 2 is running on the same engine engine as 2005’s Modern Warfare, and a Dual Core is enough to run the game on its maximun settings. (On a PC).
Also all the new high-end phones are and will be big. 4.7 or 5 inches at 1080p is the way to go! Even the iPhone grew taller last year! lol

Among other phones I used, I switched to iPhone4 once. But got tired of the OS within few months. I agree it might have been excellent few years back. But when you dont change the look and feel of the OS for a long time, it becomes boring.Though you make it few cms taller and add a better camera etc, it doesnt help much. There is no match to the customization an android phone offers and for a technical person, this is what is most attractive. I for one cant simply imagine going back to iPhone
