Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note Could Still Launch in the U.S.

Published

on

As you might know, the IFA conference is taking place in Berlin right now and some pretty awesome gadgets have been announced. We’ve seen two promising Windows Phone Mango devices get announced by HTC and we’ve also see two devices from Samsung generate a pretty big buzz, those devices of course being the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy Note.

Samsung’s devices though have caused a pretty big stir here in the United States after Samsung confirmed to us that it had ‘no plans‘ to bring the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy Note hybrid to the United States.

Samsung Galaxy Note

This of course has led to much moaning and groaning from Samsung’s audience in the United States. But before any of you let out another, let’s clarify a few things here. First of all, Samsung never outright said that it wouldn’t be launching these things in the United States. It said that it currently has ‘no plans’ to. A very ambiguous statement and as Xavier pointed out in the original article, it could mean a couple of things.

One, it doesn’t currently have any American carriers on board and thus, the ‘no plans’ statement. Plans can change. If a carrier approaches Samsung or Samsung enters into negotiations with a U.S. carrier and a deal can be made, one or both of these devices could certainly find their way to the U.S.

And two, this is a conference in Europe. When devices get announced, they are usually announced with European launch windows. Case in point, the HTC Titan and HTC Radar Mango Phones that were announced yesterday. They got European launch dates but nothing on U.S. availability. Does that mean they won’t launch in the United States? Absolutely not.

It’s possible but I think both are too unique not to bring stateside.

Same deal with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note. These are two fairly unique, very marketable devices that could certainly find a niche in the U.S. market. And more than likely, a carrier in the United States will agree.

So don’t get too frustrated by Samsung’s ‘no plans’ here. It wasn’t meant to stir up the pot, instead, it was a completely honest and truthful statement. Samsung doesn’t have plans to release these devices in the United States.

Yet.

The question this brings up is why do they need to make a deal with a carrier to bring these to the U.S.? Are they not going to have WiFi only versions?

I’ve been waiting a year for a tablet like the 7.7 to come out, it seems like the perfect one for me. I’m really hoping they’re not going to be so closed-minded that they only release carrier subsidized versions. I was just starting to think the tablet market was past all that crap.

If Samsung wants to put even a small dent in ipad sales, then they will bring it to the US. The smaller form factor would entice a lot to switch.. or they should just listen to Steve, no one wants a 7 inch tablet, right?

I already have a Samsung 7 inch Galaxy Tab. The 7.7 inch looks even better. I am sick of Apple’s strategy to monopolize the market which in turn, limits consumer’s choice. If Apple is so cocksure about the success of her 10 inch tablets, why does she have to worry about Samsung’s which has a line of its own? People, like myself, who likes Samsung will buy a Samsung tablet no matter where it’s going to be sold. Not in Europe, I will go Asia; not in Asia, I will go America; not in America, I will go to Korea…. I won’t let Apple limit my choice of the best tablet or phone…. Right now, it’s Samsung’s 7.7 Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II. Go Samsung….kick Apple’s ass…

If the 7.7 comes to the U.S., I WILL buy it.  That simple.  If not, I’m going to be looking for another [7 inch range] display tab.  10.1 is just too “clunky” for me.  Please Samsung, do the right thing… ;)

I agree that the 7.7 looks like the best tablet to date and I gotta have it. I had an 8.9 for all of two days which was a very nice device but the lack of H.264 B-Frames support (crappy Tegra 2) killed it for me. Now I’m kinda glad as the 7.7 looks to be better in almost every way and if it does indeed use Exynos it shouldn’t have the video limitations of the Tegra 2. That plus the Super AMOLED Plus screen, MicroSD slot, and IR Blaster (maybe?) make the 7.7 a must have.

I hope Samsung doesn’t strip out the MicroSD slot when they ship it to US. Which is what they did to the 8.9.  Hope they don’t get too big and start acting like Apple.

It Sucks being an american, on the other hand, awsome being an Australian, we will get this device first along with Koria, we love everything Samsung, there LED TVs, the Galaxy S 2 smart phones, the Tab 10.1,  Cannot wait to get this Tab 7.7 and go and wipe Apples ass with it, you see, here in Australia we are obtaning a real hatred with anything apple, why? because we love freedome, which is what Samsung stands for, so true for Google Android aswell, if you cant see the Apple way of things, then you are a lemon and need your eyes opened by an eye surgeon, Freedome of choice! Open source all the way!

      What?
We were the first country to yield to Apple’s unreasonable demands and actually block the sale of the Galaxy 10.1. “Freedom loving”. Right…
Few people I talk to, here in Australia, are even aware of the Galaxy range. Almost every student at my uni has a Mac laptop or an iPhone. When they see me using the Tab 10.1, they say, “OH you have an iPad!”

I love Android, you love Android, but that is not the norm in Australia any more than it is in the U.S.

If only Apple adds the USB port, MicroSD, HDMI port, and replaceable battery to the IPAD 2, I would buy it even if the price is more.  Smoothness and good looks does not out weigh usabilities.
