Galaxy Tab S2 vs Galaxy Tab S: Specs

As we mentioned before, Samsung took a different approach this year. Rather than have an 8.4-inch and a 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab S that are long and skinny, like all Android tablets, this year they're not as long and slightly fatter. It's the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the iPad, and Google's recent Nexus 9. This should make them easier to use, but not as good for viewing widescreen and HD movies. That said, here are all the details regarding the new Tab S2, and how it compares to the original.

Galaxy Tab S2 Specs

  • 8 and 9.7-inch 2048 x 1536 Resolution Full HD AMOLED Display
  • 8-core Samsung Exynos processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32 and 64GB of storage with a micro-SD slot for expansion up to 128GB
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop with Samsung TouchWiz UX (promise to Android M soon)
  • WiFi and 4G LTE options
  • 8 Megapixel rear and 2.1 megapixel front cameras
  • Fingerprint scanner and sensor for security
  • Dual bottom facing speakers
  • Aluminum design
  • 5,870 mAh and 4,000 mAh battery
  • 5.6mm thin
  • Black, White & Gold

Galaxy Tab S Specs
  • 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch 2560 x 1600 HD Super AMOLED Display
  • Samsung Exynos 8-core processor 1.9 GHz with 3GB of RAM
  • 16GB storage and micro-SD support
  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat (Recently received Android 5.0 Lollipop)
  • 8 Megapixel rear and 2.1 front cameras
  • Textured plastic design with aluminum metal frame
  • Dual side facing speakers, not front facing
  • Fingerprint scanner and IR remote control port
  • 7900 mAh battery
  • Black or White (Gold trim)
  • 247.3 x 177.3 x 6.6 mm and 467 grams (10.5-inch dimensions)

As you can see above the new Galaxy Tab S is slightly smaller in both sizes, and the resolution is a little lower as well. That said, the smaller sizes makes up for the loss in resolution, and we're hearing these have the best screen of any tablet ever released, including any "Retina display".

They're also thinner, lighter, more powerful, have a better fingerprint scanner (like the Galaxy S6 and Note 5, not the Note 4) and are overall much improved. Samsung's claiming they're the best designed tablets ever released.

Personally the 8.4-inch form factor was my absolute favorite, but the slightly smaller 8-inch Galaxy Tab S2 should be nearly just as good, easier to use, and a better device. We'll save judgement until we can get them in our hands for a full review.

You forgot to mention that the new S2 camera does not have a flash.
