5 Reasons Not to Install iOS 9.0.1 & 3 Reasons To Do It

Published

on

Apple’s new iOS 9 update is here but it’s not the iOS 9.1 update. Instead, it’s an iOS 9.0.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, a small bug fix update that tackles several problems. While there are a few reasons to install, there are also a few reasons to skip the iOS 9.0.1 update, at least for the moment.

Earlier this month, Apple rolled out two brand new iOS 9 updates. The first, an iOS 9.0 system upgrade that delivered tons of new features to iOS users including a battery life boost, a new News application, and more. The other update was iOS 9.1.

iOS 9.1 is currently in beta ahead of an unknown public release date. When it arrives, it will bring new emojis to owners of the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It’s an exciting update but it’s still weeks away from touching down.

iPhone-5-iOS-9-5

In the meantime, Apple’s rolled out a small bug fixer dubbed iOS 9.0.1. iOS 9.0.1 started pushing out yesterday morning (afternoon if you live on the United States’ east coast) and it delivered some key bug fixes to iOS 9 users.

iOS 9 problems have been swirling around since last week and it’s clear that Apple has a few holes that it needs to patch up in the days and weeks ahead. iOS 9.0.1 is a start though you can expect several more iOS 9 updates (in addition to iOS 9.1) to roll out before the arrival of iOS 10.

As the days pass, more and more people will discover the iOS 9.0.1 update lurking on their phone. And while there are some reasons to install the iOS 9.0.1 update right away, there are also some reasons why you might want to hold off.

Here, we take a look at a few reasons why you should install the iOS 9.0.1 update straightaway and a few reasons why you might want to hold off for the time being. Keep these in mind as you try to come to a decision.

Install iOS 9.0.1 If You Depend on Alarms & Timers

Install iOS 9.0.1 If You Depend on Alarms & Timers

If you are dependent on alarms and timers (and we imagine that many of you are for work/cooking/etc.), you might want to consider installing the iOS 9.0.1 update right now. It comes with an important fix for, you guessed it, alarms and timers.

While we didn't run into any problems during our time with iOS 9.0, it appears that some people noticed that there alarms and timers were failing to go off. That's not good, especially if you depend on your alarm to wake up for work at a certain time in the morning.

We've been using the iOS 9.0.1 update for more than a day now and we've been testing our alarms and timers to make sure that they work. So far so good.

Annoying Word Snob here. You wrote “iOS 9.0.1 does squash these initial problems,” when you should have used the word “quash” instead. You squash a bug, but you quash a lawsuit, or a problem. Just trying to make the world a better place for all of us.

Except these are in fact bugs, which have been squashed by Apple’s developers. ;) Totally legit usage here.

AWS again, this time with an actual issue. Just after updating my 5s to iOS 9.0, I turned on the new “Low Power Mode” for a while then turned it back off later before charging. When I then unplugged my phone, I noticed two strange things: my battery symbol was still yellow and my battery percentage stayed stuck at 16% for several hours. Convinced that the power level was wrong, I turned my phone off & on, and saw the battery symbol was now black and showing 36%. It seems unlikely that the problem was not connected to the iOS update. Anyone else seen or heard of this issue?

Since installing the new update on my iPhone 6 I have been unable to make a phone call. The voice I hear is distorted and inaudible and my voice is the same to other people. Does anyone know if this issue has been reported by others? It may just be a coincidence and not related to the update? Many thanks, Tanya

I had the exact same problem.. I just restarted my phone and the problem went away

    • Cara

      09/30/2015 at 5:56 am

I had the same issue and followed Miche’s advice. I restarted my phone and the issue was resolved. I am not a tech savvy customer, which is why I was advised to choose Apple iPhones, but I have been very disappointed with so many aspects of the iPhone, from issues with certain areas of the touchscreen no longer working (had to get a new iPhone…Ugh!!!), to constant updates which seem to CAUSE problems. I have several friends who have had their Samsungs for 3+ years with NO ISSUES at all. The price of these iPhones is ridiculous, too. You think they would build them to be more durable than an egg shell and not force you to buy a $100 protective case as well. I know Apple could provide a much better product. I think it all boils down to greed.

You do realize that we live in a capitalist economic system which is based upon greed!

Problematic touch screen is one I’ve never heard of with the iPhone! But it was immediately replaced for you, right?! That’s the excellent service you can expect from Apple.

Cases do NOT cost $100. Samsungs also have many problems. In fact, Apple’s products generally score higher on consumer satisfaction and related measures.

At this point, the only conclusion is that your disappointment has clouds your judgment or that you are one of those paid Samsung trolls!

::looks at $100 dollar case he has for his iPhone::

You sir are the reason people hate iPhone users. Why cant you just accept the fact that not everyone likes iOS or Apples shady construction. For an American company, youd like to think they would hold some American values. Theres a problem when Asian companies are making products that outlast ours…you know, the core principle and reason people should buy Domestic over import?

          10/05/2015 at 9:45 am

NO…that is NOT the only conclusion. I’m the exact same way. Just got my first IPhone, and it SUCKS. Had to take it back within a week cause I couldn’t text certain people. Now….every time I install an update I have issues. Never had all these problems with my LG that I used to have. Just installed 9.0.1 update and have NO notification sounds…NONE. I’ve missed phone calls and texts. These phones outrageously expensive and work like CRAP!!

After my update in my ipad mini, every so often it freezes the screen after that it will shut down and restart again. I try to open my game center but it just plain white screen. I did tried to go to the settings and choose the game center option to log in, but it just froze. No way this update is workable for everybody, just different bugs for different gadgets. Looking forward for the next update.

TRY HOLDING DOWN ON THE POWER BUTTON AND THE HOME BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME AND KEEP THEM DEPRESSED FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS UNTIL THE APPLE ICON COMES ON; THIS APPARENTLY RE-BOOTS THE IPAD. WHEN YOU TURN ON THE POWER AGAIN YOU SHOULD HAVE SOUND RESTORED. GOOD LUCK.

Since I updated my iPad 2 to 9.0.1 the web pages go away and form again with the known remark that there was a “problem”. This bug existed already with my iPad 2 before iOS 9 but after the update to 9.0.1 it becomes almost the rule. Presently I am lucky I can write all this comment, but yesterday I could not read a single page on the web up to the end. The page went and formed again almost continuosly. Of course it happened with different web pages.
I hope 9.0.2 comes soon and corrects this impossible situation.
Needless to say, I am aware that the iPad 2 is the oldest device still getting updates but if it gets them, then they should not have such serious bugs as ever forming pages again and again.

Since installing IOS 9.0.1 I am finding nearly every app is freezing at some point and/or just closing down. Come on Apple, get back to what you’re good at and don’t release until properly finished and proven. Please don’t become like Microsoft!!!

    • nightskysurfer

      10/01/2015 at 5:27 am

Mel, which apps were they? It’s up to the developers to update their apps, not Apple! That usually takes some time.

Have you restarted your iPad or iPnone? You didn’t say–that fixes gobs of problems. You also didn’t mention which device you have, either, yet older devices can run into problems.

Same problem as Mel Wand. Also does not respond to touch like before. Everything so slow. Shuts down on most apps before you can finish task. Took me three tries just to get this far with message. Google and Facebook shuts down and not getting very many Facebook messages. Can I take this app off until it is fixed?

Since installing 9.0.1 on my iPad mini2, I cannot get on safari. Keyboard locks up or has long delay. It is pretty much useless. I haven’t done upgrade on my phone and don’t plan to. I suppose I will be forced to use my iPhone for what I purchased my iPad for until a fix comes out. Very disappointed Apple!

New App Company paying $5 when people download and share their app. I share the app with 10-30 people a day posting in Facebook groups, so I average $50-$150 a day. I know this is an iPhone post but I just wanted you share this info. I use my iPhone 6plus for this paying app myself. The company gives you their Free debit card to withdraw the money you earn from referring others to their App. Here’s a video link on YouTube to give you info on how to start: https://youtu.be/h_c1_Phmjss

I’ve done the update to IOS 9, and everything was still fine, did the update to IOS 9.0.1. Three days later my Laptop, iPad & iPone 6 asked me to verify my Apple ID. I verified it and confirmed my password, and I received a notification “Your Apple ID is incorrect and your Apple Account has been lock. I tried to go to “Forgot Apple ID”, and it took me to security questions which I never confirm previously. I tried to “re-send/ confirm” my Apple ID to the email address I linked to my ID, but I cannot receive emails because my account is lock….
Ended phoning their call center, and awaiting a link to verify my ID…..

I’ve been having this “your Apple ID is incorrect ” message for the last 6months and I still haven’t been able to resolve it. Sadly I’ve been living with avoiding anything that requires my ID. It’s really a pain and making me consider going back to my Droid/Samsung.

Just added iOS 9.0.1 to my iPad and i5s phone. Seems like many things are slower now – loading images and comments on FB, loading pages in Safari, getting maps in Google maps. In fact, can’t even get Google maps to create a simple travel route now. Connecting to wifi is also slow. Considering downgrading to 8.4.1 before I go nuts.

Alarm used to end by itself after five minutes if it was not swipped. Now with 9.0.1 it sounds forever until you do swipe. I would like to be able to set how long the alarm sounds if you do not swipe. I was okay with five minutes. Sounding forever is excessive. Setting how long the alarm sounds without swipe would be a nice setting for the alarm.

Adam, these columns are helpful, but lose the canned format. The first screen or two always reads exactly the same—and generally comes off as an apologia — others may have problems, but I’m fine.

I almost didn’t further this time –figuring it was the same old, same old, no real problems.

Also, could you all do something about the slide show format. It takes forever to move from one to the next–a full single page option would be good.

Finally,my our web master needs to fix things so that the page dowsn’t scroll back to the top after posting a comment! It’s frusteprating having to scroll back down, and scroll, and scroll, trying to find whee one left off!

I know we all go through these same motions every time Apple comes out with a major iOS update, but it just seems ridiculous. Have loaded an IOS 9 .02 upgrade to my mobile iPhone 4 – some 48 hours ago and all we get is a vision of a cable charging end pointing upwards on screen to an ITunes icon. No matter what I do – including removing and reinstalling the battery – that was difficult enough!! – the ITunes and recharger cable vision still appears! This is after trying the recharger all night and pressing both on and foot button simultaneously from time to time. What the hell next as 10gb data inaccessible!!!

I have problem on my iPad every time I search using safari it always pop up the white blank square size 1/4 of screen for a few seconds and after that appear in right side small then pop up again and again. Can anyone experience like this? Thanks… Jenny

  33. Don D'Ginto

    10/19/2015 at 10:59 am

I think Apple better start listening to the customers feedback instead of trying to do things that they “think” the customers want. Like howabout making the letters on the right side of the contact list either BIGGER or put more space between them so that when you hit or press on a certain letter of the alphabet you bring up the letter that you want, not the one below or above it. also, howabout give the user the albility to set the screen to dim and lock more than 2 minutes. I have my set a 2 minutes, and it dims after 40 seconds, then turns of after an additional 20 seconds (1 minute the phone is locked). just saying.

What the “f” is up Apple? PLEASE! STOP SENDING OUT IOS UPDATES THAT HAVE NOT HAD ENOUGH TESTING DONE BY YOU ALL BEFORE THEY ARE SENT OUT!! FOR APPLE AND THE PRICE OF YOUR DEVICES, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF NOT BEING ABLE TO USE MY IPAD BECAUSE IT HAS SO MANY BUGS! Damn thing keeps telling me from time to time when I’m on Safari- no internet connection- or else it will all of a sudden stop opening new web pages- the blue line that is on the top of the screen and eventually goes across the entire screen when the web page finally pops up, isn’t happening! The blue line goes across the top of your screen about an inch and then will not go any further- therefore I can’t get my web page to pop up. You all have made my iPad unusable and that is unacceptable. I end up just using my iPhone 6 Plus with Safari so as to not get so frustrated that web pages won’t open. Of course, this pisses me off because the writing is so much smaller than on my iPad. You cannot do this to people! You can’t do an iOS update that makes a device unusable! Apple’s brand is going to suffer if this continually keeps happening with every damn iOS update. A small bug here and there one might expect, but your iOS updates are coming out with bugs that prevent one from using their devices at all- it’s obvious that the iPhone vs iPad iOS updates and testing- the iPad resources/people working on it with regard to programming the updates, testing , etc is too low! You need more people supporting and working on iPad updates as well as the iPhone. Because it is always my iPad that has problems after iOS updates. And I’m sick and tired of spending the time trying to fix it and then some things one cannot fix by themselves- they need another dreaded iOS update to fix it. YOUR IOS UPDATES SHOULD NOT PREVENT PEOPLE FROM USING AN ENTIRE APPLE DEVICE CUZ THERE ARE SO MANY BUGS , THAT IF YOU DO USE THAT DEVICE, SOONER RATHER THAN LATER, YOU ARE CLOSE TO THROWING YOUR EXPENSIVE DEVICE AGAINST THE WALL! FOR REAL! IT IS SO MADDENING- I JUST WANT TO BEABLE TO USE MY DAMN INTERNET FOR GOD’s SAKE! NOT A HUGE, COMPLICATED REQUEST!!!!!! ENUF IS ENUF! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER- OR I’M GONE APPLE!

  35. Marcia Baker

    12/16/2015 at 12:02 pm

And to think, I was looking into replacing my laptop with an Apple Laptop for Christmas. Now… It is not happening!!!!! I’d be a damn fool! I’m not paying $2,000-$3000 for a laptop that may be unusable at times when IOS updates so full of bugs are continually put out by Apple. You guys better get more staff to deal with your problem of putting out IOS Updates that cause more problems due to bugs that whatever upgrades or pluses the iOS update is supposed to give you is not worth it in a million years. What is wrong with Apple? How is this acceptable to Apple?

The theme I am using is iceKai from TemplateMonster, which currently has social switches and also Youtube video clip combination functions made it possible for right from the box,
so I just need to change a few of its components and ideally enhance my linkbuilding method with GSA Online search engine Ranker.

Our favourite is silver quilt coat with pockets plus a detachable hood suitable for almost any casual outing.
Tunics in a business setting radiate a lightness and fluidness
that is often lost on more stuffy looks. There will be great
designers banking on women’s basics, for example Calvin Klein and DKNY; however,
with savants like Alexander Mc – Queen not holding back, there’s more ahead
in women’s fashion clothes for 2010.

Better to avoid installing iOS 9 as iOS 13 recently launched with many features. I recommend installing iOS 13.
