Skyrim Creation Club Release Date, Features, Prices & Details

The Fallout 4 Creation Club is live and the Skyrim Creation Club for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC is set to deliver new content next month.

During its E3 Showcase in June, Bethesda announced Creation Club, a program that provides new, official, Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition content for all three platforms.

Bethesda won’t release any new Skyrim DLC expansions, but mods, patches, and Creation Club will keep Skyrim Special Edition alive and well for years to come.

The company promised it would launch Creation Club during the summer and it recently pushed the program live for Fallout 4. Select Skyrim Special Edition owners can try Creation Club right now, but the official release won’t happen until October.

Today we want to go over a few things Skyrim Special Edition owners need to know about Creation Club, its release date, its prices, the content, and the update that will deliver it to the Xbox One, PS4, and PC users.

Skyrim Creation Club Release Date

Skyrim Creation Club is available via the Skyrim Special Edition 1.5 update beta for PC. Anyone with the game, and a Steam account, can download the beta and Creation Club right now to test it ahead of its official release.

Skyrim’s Creation Club includes the popular Survival Mode from Fallout 4. While Survival Mode is free right now, it won’t be free forever. Bethesda plans to charge for the game mode after a week trial period.

Skyrim Special Edition 1.5 Update

Fallout 4’s Creation Club was enabled with a base game update and Bethesda will push a new Skyrim Special Edition update with Creation Club on board.

Bethesda’s latest patch, the Skyrim Special Edition 1.5 update, is the update that will deliver Creation Club, Survival Mode, and more to Xbox One, PS4, and PC users next month.

In addition to Creation Club and Survival Mode, the update comes with a Message of the Day, support for ESL file format, patch version numbers and notes for a Mod Details page, and minor fixes to Bethesda.net functionality.

Creation Club Content

Fallout 4’s initial batch of Creation Club content includes armor, weapons, skins, the spacesuit from the titular character from Bethesda’s Prey, and other items. You can expect similar content for Skyrim Special Edition.

While some of the content is similar to free mods, there are a few differences between Creation Club’s content and mods.

• Some Skyrim mods won’t work with the game’s DLC expansion packs. Creation Club content is tested behind the scenes and works across all of Skyrim’s official content.
• Unofficial Skyrim mods disable trophies and achievements. Content from Creation Club doesn’t.

While the first batch of items for the Skyrim Creation Club will likely be limited, we expect to see a variety of content emerge in the months ahead.

Creation Club Pricing

One other key difference is the fact that Skyrim mods for Xbox One, PS4 and PC are free while the content from Creation Club costs real money.

Creation Club content requires users to spend Creation Club credits which are purchased on the game store. On the PS4 and Xbox One Store in the United States, 750 credits costs $8.00, 1500 credits costs $15, 3000 credits costs $25, and 5,500 costs $40.

Fallout 4’s current batch of Creation Club content pricing ranges from 50 credits (for skins) to 500 credits for Hellfire Power Armor.

Bethesda provided Fallout 4 gamers with 100 free credits and we imagine it will provide the same to Skyrim Special Edition owners in October.

Creation Club for Nintendo Switch

Bethesda is planning to release Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch later this year, but it’s unclear if Creation Club, or unofficial mods, will ever make it to the platform. Don’t hold your breath.

Skyrim Mods Will Live On

Skyrim’s massive library of mods will remain free and Bethesda has said that it won’t allow “existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club.” That doesn’t mean there won’t be similarities.

The Hellfire Power Armor the company is offering for 500 credits is almost identical to a set of free Hellfire Power Armor on the mod marketplace. This has left many Fallout 4 fans frustrated.

Skyrim’s new Survival Mode is also incredibly close to the game’s free Frostfall mod. Skyrim Special Edition owners are frustrated by that.

One of our favorite Skyrim mods for PC is now available for console.  A Quality World Map by IcePenguin is an essential mod for PC. And now that it's available for console, it's an essential mod for Xbox One. (It's not available for PS4 yet.) Bethesda's vanilla Skyrim map is decent enough but this mod takes it to the next level with improved textures and detailed roads.
