Songza Arrives on Nexus 7 and Android Tablets

Songza is an awesome music app that streams music based on your time of day, mood and activity.

Using Songza ia a bit like hiring the musical director from a movie to come play a soundtrack to your life, except it’s free and it’s on your Android tablet.

This week Songza announced that the ‘music concierge’ service is available on Android tablets, including the new Nexus 7.

Download Songza for Android tablets on Google Play.

Songza Android Tablet Nexus 7 App

Songza looks great on the Nexus 7.

Songza uses the time of day to provide a list of potential activities form working out, cooking or chilling to romantic music and much more. I’ve been using the app on my Nexus 7 for a few days, and it’s quickly become one fo my favorite Nexus 7 apps.

After signing into the app with Facebook I discovered a nice looking layout that takes advantage of the larger tablet display. The screens for picking an activity and a playlist work great in landscape and portrait with layouts that change based on how you hold the tablet.

The Now playing screen looks best in portrait mode, as landscape leaves a lot of empty space on the sides. A text ad covers part of the album art and playlist name in both modes, but can be closed by tapping on an x.

Seconds after singing in with my Facebook account I was listening to Music from Legendary Record Collectors. The playlist I tuned to first was music from Quentin Tarantino Movies, a playlist I never would have thought to look for today, but one that was prfect for powering through the last hour before lunch.

The Songza app and service are free to use and there are no audio ads. Ads show up on the now playing screen, but never mess with listening to the music. It’s possible to skip tracks if the concierge gets it wrong.

In addition to picking music based on my mood, I can also choose from popular playlists and explore music by genre, decade and more.

Songza brings everything I love about the iPhone app to the Android tablet, and is a great Android tablet app for the Nexus 7 and other tablets.
