Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs. Xperia Z Photos Show Ridiculous Size

Published

on

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Sony’s massive 6.4-inch smartphone that will be arriving later on this fall in countries outside Japan, has been pictured next to the 5-inch Xperia Z and the Xperia Z Ultra makes the Xperia Z look absolutely tiny by comparison.

In late June, Sony announced a new version of its Sony Xperia Z flagship dubbed Xperia Z Ultra, a larger version of the Xperia Z. The device is slated to arrive this fall with release date rumors pointing to September.

Sony’s new Xperia Z Ultra features a number of enticing specifications including a 1080p display, 2.2 GHZ quad-core Snapdragon processor, 8MP camera, and a design that is both water and dust resistant like the original Xperia Z. It will also come with support for pencils and styli, much like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is about as big as smartphones get.

The Xperia Z Ultra also comes with an enormous display, 6.4-inches to be exact, and thanks to photos from XperiaGuide, we now know just how that will translate into real life.

The new photos show off the Xperia Z Ultra and the Xperia Z side-by-side. The photos make the 5-inch Xperia Z look absolutely tiny compared to the Xperia Z Ultra, a device that is expected to dwarf the Galaxy Note 3 and the HTC One Max as well. We also get a glimpse at just how brilliant the massive 6.4-inch display is. The device boasts a 342 pixel density which sets the bar high for the Galaxy Note 3 and the HTC One Max.

We also get a glimpse at just how thin the Xperia Z Ultra is as it checks in with a frame that is just 6.5mm thin, thinner than Apple’s iPhone 5. The Xperia Z, by comparison, is 7.9mm thin, still very thin for a smartphone.

The device makes even the 5-inch Xperia Z look small.

We still don’t have a release date or carriers for the Xperia Z in the United States but given that the Xperia Z arrived on T-Mobile, it’s possible that we could see Sony’s smartphone monstrosity arrive for the Magenta carrier at some point in the future. The device has passed through the FCC with T-Mobile bands, but it’s up to the carrier to decide if it wishes to officially support it.

Thanks for that! I think we just found out “How big is too big!”

Now when it comes to smartphones… I gotta go with “You can never be too thin!”.

I own this phone and love it. phone?? Ok, well its now not a phone, it’s a statement. Let me explain. I am a professional with 2 active email accounts, spend most of my time on the phone, Bluetooth stream to my car and headphones at the gym, and this phone neither lags or misses a beat. I married it with the perfect flip case, not adding any bulk and it is very much a statement to me. Yes, it functions well as a phone, but excels with email reading and replying to. No more pinch or double tapping. I read the text crisp and clear and reposed accordingly. Holding it to my ear does not look as odd as my face, so they counterbalance well.
Until the note 3 comes out, this will do me just fine….and maybe even after the note 3 comes out.

Heavy use I get 14 hours before recharging

    Hello from sydney Australia.

Camera doesn’t have flash option..What you have to say about that ?

Well, while it’s not ideal, it’s not a deal breaker. The Sony low light software does an adequate job helping cut noise. What I really miss is an ir blaster. I wish that and a flash was included.
Bottom line Sony has hit almost all my marks on this phone.
It is a classy, lightning fast, content crunching monster and aside from those two mentioned omissions above, Sony has come back to play!

      What’s about earphone sound quality?

I honestly think the headphones that come with it sound just fine however the shear size of this phone made me pickup the bluetooth headset SBH50 (think Smartwatch that you dont wear on your wrist)
While I like the SBH50 I wish I’d waited until the SBH52 came out.
Honestly, the hardest thing youre gonna have to get used to is the size of this phone. I dont recommend this phone to heavy telephone talkers. This is for content viewers and texters. I do make calls on it and while it is fine for that, it clearly is intended for remote sessions and media consumption. Hope this helps.

Phablets are in high demand. I would love to ditch my 4.3″ display for this Ultra edition provided no OEM or carrier bloatware was included.

Everything that came stock on my Z Ultra I could delete. Just buy unlocked and save yourself the trouble. I have the HSPA version running on ATT. Bought mine unlocked and unbranded.

I too own one. It is by far the quickest smart phone out there.
Glass on the back really makes it stick to your hands to aid in palming while browsing or typing. The weight and balance is very good and the build quality can rival the iPhone 5. The new Triluminous screen is a pleasure to view. In pitch black darkness the blacks stay black and not gray. There is zero led light leak coming from the bezel
If you can get past the size of this phone you will really enjoy it.
