Sprint Expands 4G LTE Network in Four Markets

Published

on

Sprint is slowly expanding its 4G LTE network to better compete with AT&T and Verizon.

Today Sprint announced it now has a 4G LTE network in Baltimore, Maryland; Gainesville, Georgia; Manhattan/Junction City, Kansas; and Sedalia, Missouri. The four cites now have access to higher speeds on Sprint, assuming customers have a phone that works on the network. Phones in Sprint’s 4G LTE include the Galaxy S III, Photon Q 4G LTE, or the HTC EVO 4G LTE.

With the announcement, Sprint now has 4G LTE in a total of 19 cities across the U.S. Most of those cities are in the Midwest and East Coast. Sprint seems content to roll out its faster network in relatively smaller markets before bringing it to larger markets. While Sprint included larger cities like Dallas, Atlanta, and Houston in the first rollout, the carrier still has no 4G LTE in larger markets in the Northeast or on the West Coast.

We know Sprint recently tested some 4G LTE equipment in San Francisco, but we don’t know when it will arrive in Silicon Valley. Other big cites that lack Sprint’s 4G LTE network include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

Verizon already has a massive 4G LTE network, and AT&T is building out its network relatively slowly. Both carriers had a lengthy head start on Sprint. We’d like to see Sprint roll out their network faster than it is right now and  we’re sure Sprint would love to move faster as well.

In addition to the 4G LTE roll out, Sprint also announced new 3G service in Baltimore, Boston, and Washington, D.C. today. The new 3G network offers “an exceptionally clear signal, better in-building coverage and fewer dropped/blocked calls.”

Aside from the bad language (because I’m a dad) I agree wholeheartedly with Al. How can you not have 4G in NY? . . . On second thought, I agree with Al completely. Bad language and all!

I feel cheated and robbed knowing they sold me a 4G LTE phone well knowing they were know where near launching The network. IN ADDITION they’re 3g is the slowest in the nation and it seems recently it’s gotten even slower because my download speeds now aren’t even measuring in 5 kilobytes I usually get , now they’re measuring at around 5 bytes. Next I’ll be using this phone to play tetris Or pong! (Galaxy S 3)

They did not force you to buy the phone you had options and they are rolling 4g lte in smaller cities to make sure that it would work on bigger cities like NY or LA thats how AT&T and verizon did it and that’s how is done sorry you fell robed but you had options and about the 3g its gotten better where i live still slow compared to other carries but not bad for the price you get what you cpay for

Jordan, I’m in the same boat. I don’t even see Washington stateon the short list. I’m more than upset too. My phone works great on wifi at home, but it’s hit and miss away from home on the network.

I switched to Verizon and my Iphone 5 is blazing fast! I also confirmed with the sprint manager that the 4G service will not have unlimited data. Only if you use 3G will they allow the unlimited plan.

That made my choice very clear.

My 3g connection in Seattle has gone to crap. I bought the new Galaxy s3. While it’s a great phone, it’s seriously handicapped on the sprint network. If I don’t see LTE in September I’m seriously considering changing carriers. I’d be happy with working 3g right now, most of the time it’s been slower than dial up lately! Unlimited date is a joke. I used to love Sprint, it’s now turning to hate and frustration.

Sad thing is, Sprint isn’t planning on having LTE in the Seattle area until mid to late 2013. True stuff, ask any sprint rep who knows what they’re talking about (usually the ones who work in the corporate stores not authorized resellers). Sad stuff. I miss even the dumb wimax on my original Evo… now I have the Evo LTE with 10 times slower speeds. Watching a youtube video is impossible on it….

I bought the Iphone 5 yesterday because the store reps promised 4G LTE in San Francisco within 60 days. I went from an Iphone 3GS on AT&T. Now I can’t even use apps or stream Pandora!!! The sprint 3G network seems to only work with talking and text. It doesn’t do much of anything unless I can find wi-fi.

So Sprint – (believe me when I speak for all 4G phones users in markets that you tricked). You wasted my time and money with your petty lies and shitty service. You have 59 days…..

Unlimited Frustration only $99 a month!!

    I. Hate. Sprint. Can’t wait until my contract is up. -_- I also have the s3. I love the phone but absolutely cannot stand the service. I get so frustrated with how slow it is. And i know slow. I had dial up on my home computer until just last year. Ha.
