Published

on

Sprint today announced that its 4G LTE network will soon come to 28 new markets across the U.S.

The new Sprint 4G LTE markets are mostly in the East Coast and Midwest of the U.S. with cities such as Gettysburg, Penn., Paris, Texas and Oxford, Miss. getting access to the faster network. Sprint subscribers in the 28 new cities can soon enjoy faster downloads speeds with unlimited data, assuming they have a phone that has 4G LTE.

The full list of new cities with Sprint 4G LTE is:

  • Albany, GA
  • Anderson, SC
  • Bay City, MI
  • Branson, MO
  • Bremerton/Silverdale, WA
  • Columbus, GA
  • Columbus, MS
  • Decatur, AL
  • Florence/Muscle Shoals, AL
  • Gadsden, AL
  • Gaffney, SC
  • Gettysburg, PA

Sprint is the only major carrier with 4G LTE that also offers plans with unlimited data usage. Sprint’s network is typically slower than other networks, even with 4G LTE, but users don’t have to worry about data caps on the network like they have to on Verizon and AT&T.

T-Mobile also offers unlimited plans, but it doesn’t yet have 4G LTE, and it doesn’t have the iPhone 5. Though it promises it will have both the network and the iPhone later this year.

The new markets will bring Sprint’s total number of 4G LTE markets up to 77. That’s still smaller than both AT&T and Verizon’s 4G LTE networks, but Sprint is slowly catching up.

Both AT&T and Verizon recently said they expect to finish their 4G LTE rollouts this year, though Verizon plans to finish in mid-2013, and AT&T will only commit to the end of 2013.

The third-place carrier promises its 4G LTE network is coming to more than 200 markets soon, including major cities like New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Sprint’s 4G LTE rollout could come to those cities sometime around the launch of rumored upcoming phones such as the HTC M7 and Samsung Galaxy S4.

T Mobile will have 4G LTE next week in Las Vegas (its first LTE market) and then only accessible with the Galaxy S3 and Note 2. Currently it has 4G HSPA+ not 4G LTE
