TabletKiosk rolling out UMPCs with dual-touch and Atom

Courier may be the top tablet story of the day, but it’s not alone. Straight from TabletKiosk comes the announcement of two new UMPCs featuring dual-mode pen+touch digitizers and Intel Atom processors.

Shipping in October, the eo a7330D and eo TufTab a7230XD are being billed as “the only 7-inch Ultra-Mobile PCs to feature an auto-switching dual mode digitizer/touch screen by WACOM®.” Certainly this is welcomed news for those of us who require active digitizer pen input, like me. This alone could convince me to finally take the UMPC plunge, but that’s not all.

The eo a7330D offers a modular expansion system to add custom functionality, such as magnetic strip reader or barcode reader. Hopefully it will also enable consumer-oriented add-ons, like a keyboard or game controller.

The eo TufTab a7230XD is a rugged machine that meets MIL-STD-810F standards, rated IP54. 2.0 MP webcam, 1D/2D barcode reader, RFID reader and 3/3.5G WWAN are built-in.

Both feature the Intel® Atom™ Z530P processor (512K Cache, 1.60 GHz, 533 MHz FSB). Obviously not a workhorse but intended to run cooler and longer for greater mobility. Looking forward to seeing this thing in action.
