Published

on

Gamers who bought The Last of Us Remastered for PS4 last month may love the updated graphics, but a number of The Last of Us Remastered problems and bugs that the developer needs to fix.

Naughty Dog released a patch for The Last of Us Remastered this week to help fix some of the problems plaguing gamers, but in a forum post one of the team members explains that it could be weeks before gamers get the The Last of Us Remastered patch that fixes multiplayer completely. We’ll also look at the pop-in problem that may not be fixed.

Here’s a quick look at what The Last of Us Remastered problems are fixed in the new update, what they still plan to fix and what they will not be able to fix at this time.

Gamers are running in to The Last of Us Remastered problems. Here's a look at what is fixed, what will be fixed, and what is here to stay.

The Last of Us Remastered is out now on PS4 with graphics upgrades over the PS3 version. Gamers can buy The Last of Us Remastered digitally or on disc for $49.99.

The Last of Us Remastered Problems Fixed

Yesterday Naughty Dog pushed a The Last of Us Remastered live update, which is not a full patch, but does bring some fixes to the multiplayer experience. Specifically the PS4 Live Update 1.01.012 is designed to improve matchmaking times. This also fixes flamethrower damage. Quentin Cobb, Multiplayer Designer, shares more details on the PlayStation Forums.

We’ve just pushed a live update that should improve matchmaking times. While this is a not a full fix, our update should hopefully reduce matchmaking times. We are still working on a patch which should dramatically improve matchmaking times and we’ll get into more detail about that a bit later. Also, in this live update is a fix to the Flamethrower damage. The PS4 Flamethrower should now output damage at the same speed as the PS3 Flamethrower.

Gamers should exit out of Factions an re-enter to see the changes. They ask that you post your matchmaking times in the forum to help developers track the issue.

The Last of Us Remastered Patches Needed

Unfortunately there is still a lot of work to be done to fix The Last of Us Remastered matchmaking completely and to address problems with Agility 2. The Agility 2 skill should allow gamers to quietly walk through the map to avoid enemies, but user report that it is not working. One gamer reports that his in-game character’s, “footsteps make a lot louder noise,” and compares the noises made during jumps to that of an adult film actress.

On the Playstation Forums Cobb confirms there is a problem with Agility 2 in The Last of Us Remastered, telling gamers, “That’s going to require a patch unfortunately.”

The Last of US Remastered matchmaking times are better, but we still need a patch.

The Last of US Remastered matchmaking times are better, but we still need a patch.

We also learn that Naughty Dog needs to develop and release a The Last of Us Remastered patch to fix the matchmaking times completely. Cobb explains the problem and promises to share a release for the fixes when one is available.

Our programmers are working extremely hard on a patch that should help with matchmaking times significantly. This is not a simple fix or something that can be fixed through a live update. They are completely re-writing some very complex code that has to be implemented into a patch which takes time to test and go through submission. We are working as fast as possible to get this patch out to you guys so I want to thank you all ahead of time for being patient. I’ll update you guys as soon as I learn about a timeline for release. Thanks

This is the good news for The Last of Us Remastered players who are deep into the game on PS4.

The Last of Us Remastered Pop-in Problems

There are also some graphics glitches in The Last of Us Remastered that take the gamer out of the game, by popping in textures. Some of these pop-ins are very obvious while a few are a little subtle. The video below shows one of these glitches.

Corinne Yu, a Naughty Dog programmer, explains on Twitter, spotted by DualShockers, why gamers see these problems and basically rules out a fix for this The Last of US Remastered bug.

With this in mind it looks like these pop-ins are here to stay, but the environment in The Last of us Remastered is still beautiful to look at and gamers who send screenshots in to Yu and others at Naughty Dog inspire them to make better games and better graphics engines.

Another problem The Last Of Us Remastered is having is freezing. My friend and I were playing and after we get to the cut scene when you’re inside the hospital the screen goes black and nothing happens. We then closed the application and started it again. Once we put continue the loading screen appears and then it just freezes. I thought maybe the disc was bad so I exchanged it. Yet it still had the same thing. So then I deleted all the files from the ps4 because I thought maybe it installed wrong. So then again we played it through. Once again when we got to that same part it freezes. Can naughty dog do something about that?

Try to go into the system debug and rebuild the ps4 database. Do not select option 6 or 7 because all info will be gone. but Opt 5 is the one you want.

i have noticed one huge problem with the single player. there is a sequence under the overpass in utah. all the infected, clickers and the two bloaters are gone. also a minor one when ellie is in the resort town fighting her way through the blizzard there is a random woman running around in circles. distracting but not a real bad problem.

There is also a major graphics issue that might be more noticeable for some people who play in the dark. In the early part of the game, the Downtown area particularly and the early rainy scenes, the game loses contrast and black levels to a crazy degree. Sometimes just moving a few steps can result in correct contrast levels switching to horrible dark shadows. I have a flawlessly calibrated TV so I know its not my set because on the scenes after that, it is fine and beautiful. It just bothers me that some who are playing it for the first time have to see it in less than perfect condition.

The game won’t even load for me. I’m getting the error for an application crash. I have dowloaded and installed all of the patches, reset my system, deleted and reinstalled the application, nothing. Frustrating.
