This is Why Apple Thinks You Should Buy the iPhone 5

Apple released four new iPhone 5 ads over the weekend, highlighting the new iPhone’s features and telling the story of why Apple thinks you should buy the iPhone 5 instead of a Galaxy S III or a Droid RAZR HD.

The new Apple ads don’t deviate too much from the past iPhone commercials. In each video, the iPhone 5 takes center stag, showing off a new hardware feature, software feature or accessory.

The iPhone 5 announcement offered insight into why Apple thinks shoppers will buy the iPhone 5 over the competition, but the new set of TV ads drive home that point.

Apple’s new ads reveal why the company thinks you’ll pick the iPhone 5 over the Galaxy S III.

For users that aren’t ready to buy the iPhone 5, or can’t afford the $199 price, the iPhone 4S also offers a screen that thumbs can reach all corners, can take panoramic photos and works with the new Apple EarPods, though they aren’t included.

iPhone 5 Physics Ad

In the new iPhone 5 Physics ad, Apple claims to bend the laws of physics by introducing a taller iPhone with a 4-inch display that is also thinner and weighs less than the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 5 is 7.6mm and weighs 112 grams, 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S. The lightness of the iPhone 5, along with an amazing build quality, is one of the first things shoppers will notice when picking up the iPhone 5 at a store.

This ad also shows off the new design of the iPhone 5, highlighting the side edges and the new widescreen aspect ratio of the 4-inch display.

Apple focused on the ability to reach all parts of the iPhone 5 display during the announcement, and the latest iPhone 5 ad shows how a user’s thumb can reach almost every part of the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display.

This small feature gets a full 30-second TV spot because some users don’t want to give up one-handed use of a phone for a larger display. Apple shows something many Android users already know. A larger display doesn’t always require two-hand operation.

iPhone 5 Panorama Ad

The iPhone 5 camera features a new Sapphire lens cover, but there is no major upgrade to the rear facing camera. Instead Apple focuses on taking a panoramic photo, one of the new iOS 6 features.

This ad shows a user taking a panoramic group photo with the new panoramic photo option. This feature is also available on the iPhone 4S with the free iOS 6 software update. It is certainly a nice feature, though it is something users could do with third-party apps for a while.

Apple is also planning on keeping more white cords running to the ears of iPhone owners with the new EarPods. Apple scanned ears of all shapes and sizes to try to deliver better sounding, more comfortable headphones in the box with the iPhone 5.

These headphones won’t meet the needs of audiophiles, but for most users these are more comfortable than the old iPhone headphones and they sound better.

Electronic gadgets are primarily governed by Moore’s Law and not by the law of Physics…
