Verizon Can Make it Up To Galaxy Nexus Owners With Jelly Bean

Published

on

I have come up with a way for Verizon to make it up to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners that it left without an update for over five months.

When carriers and manufacturers do customers “wrong”, especially with big name devices, they often make it up to them. Two examples come to mind.

The HTC EVO 4G LTE for Sprint was delayed beyond its May 18th release date. So, what did HTC and Sprint do to make it up to those who pre-ordered? They sent them a free case along with the device.

Galaxy NexusAnd remember when Apple was inundated with complaints from owners about the signal strength of the iPhone 4, a debacle dubbed Antennagate? It handed out free bumper cases to all iPhone 4 owners, even when it was proven that the issue affected many phones, not just the iPhone.

Well, Verizon has gone half way in making it up to Galaxy Nexus owners. The bug fix Android 4.0.4 update that it released five months after the device’s launch wiped out most of the issues plaguing the device.

And while that pleased me, it hasn’t restored my confidence in Verizon or the Nexus brand. But, after a couple of minutes of brainstorming (hopefully Verizon uses up a little more time) I have come up with a way to appease Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners who still feel slighted.

Later on this month, Google is expected to announce Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it’s next mobile operating system. What if Verizon were to make it a priority to update the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.1? What if, Verizon actually treated the Samsung Galaxy Nexus like a Nexus device?

I think that that gesture would definitely restore Galaxy Nexus owners confidence and restore consumer confidence in Verizon at the same time. Two birds with one stone, who doesn’t love that?

I realize that this is easier said than done, especially with the amount of devices in Verizon’s lineup of Android phones. However, people bought this phone thinking it was the yearly Nexus device that is usually first in line to get not only bug fix updates, but major Android updates as well.

Verizon restoring that standard would go a long way, don’t you think?

Do you agree? Or are have you Galaxy Nexus owners already lost faith in Verizon and the Nexus?

It would be nice, but I’ve lost all faith in Verizon. The Nexus line has lost all appeal. And I can’t wait to get off a Samsung phone.

Let me know when Motorola’s first Jelly Bean phone comes out. Until then I’ll be busy trying to resist chucking my Galaxy Nexus into the river.

I have Google Wallet on my Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus, works no problem – just look for a download site on the web. Verizon just doesn’t want to promote it because they will be using ISIS. They can’t stop you from installing wallet. I just refuse to give Google my social security # which they require it after adding funds a few times. I even got the free $10.00 after installing (in fact that’s all I used, sorry google.) – Thanks though for the McDonalds Iced Coffee’s! McDonalds employees jaws dropped when I paid with my phone. Soon it will be as common as plastic payments are now.

Verizon has always been the same on all their droid updates. It’s not a nexus thing people. Everyone just hoped with google’s brand on the phone, things would be different… but they aren’t. Things were exactly the same if not worse on my OG motorola droid. Updates have to be tweaked for their apps and carrier restrictions, and it takes Verizon time to do it. When verizon pulls my unlimited data plan from my hands next year and requires me to sign a new plan to keep any data package after 10+ years, that’s when I’ll loose faith… and probably change carriers. I could care less about every single android update being available before the rest of the world to my phone. I guess that’s what some people are all about though with “Flagship” phones. All I know is that the phone works wonderfully and I have very few complaints. I also understand no matter what phone you, get something will come out that’s better two weeks later. The JellyBean update will be exactly the same, and everyone will be drooling over it on other peoples phones over the web.

I agree. When they pull my unlimited data plan I’m gone. This Galaxy Nexus fiasco has been the last straw for me.

I have no confidence in Verizon offering any type of make up offer for the nexus 4.04 delay. I feel cheated. and if I had to do over again would not have purchased the Nexus from verizon.

Lost complete faith. Verizon is a garbage carrier. Will buy unlocked from Google in the future. They are going to take away my unlimited data plan anyway so I have no good reason to stay.

if I’ve learned anything from my time owning this GNex. it’s that neither Verizon nor care about their customers. no wonder Apple is the best selling phone. if only they were a wireless carrier as well.

There not going to take your unlimited plan away unless you upgrade to a phone at a subsidize price. Truth is buying a phone for a full price keeps you out of contract which is a + when it comes to flexibility.

Totally agree. The gnex fiasco really turned me off to samsung. Samsung doesn’t fix phones, they just pump out a newer model leaving the damaged good behind. 4.0.4 didn’t fix it all but the phone is vastly improved. Now let’s get a good upgrade that addresses the remaining bugs and how give us a good iTunes importer and a photo importer that doesn’t involve google+, fix the email client so threads aren’t stacked vertical thinner and thinner. Clamp down on apps and permissions so runofthemill ap
S don’t track me, keep all my SMS and calls, get serious, get a live help support line or even better yet, open a store where humans can help people with 700$ phones. You can’t sell hardware without live support…..

Gee, there are a lot of us out here that have a GNEX that the 4.0.4 update did not help. I am still getting terrible signal strength, call quality, dropped calls etc. I am not in a poor signal strength 4 g area. This has been verified by Verizon. I have had two CLNR handsets both with major flaws. One the mic cut out after 5 minutes on every call and the next would drop any call lasting more than 2 minutes, it would completely lose signal strength. My third is on the way and I am still using my original handset. Verizon and Samsung’s customer service have been horrible through all this. Faith in Verizon, Samsung and the Nexus line is gone.

I don’t know if you should blame Samsung or the Nexus brand for Verizon’s screw up.
I’m disappointed in how they handle updates. They should push Jellybean out asap! If not when contract ends I will go elsewhere. With Android the carrier is not as important as they used to be. I get a new phone it will port everything over from Google.

I had a better GNex before 4.0.4. Since 4.0.4, I have had battery drain, terrible signal strength. I love my phone and hope 4.1 will be a bonus.

I have been a VZW customer for 10 years and could have never imagined that Verizon would support its customers so poorly. We have been locked into contracts with ZERO support on devices that rarely work as intended and repeatedly lied to over and over again regarding updates.

Verizon is WELL AWARE that most if not all the Samsung phones sold over the last 18 months ALL have major problems with the MIC MUTING during calls.

I know the following have this issue:

    Galaxy Nexus (4.0.2 and 4.0.4) – Mine
    Galaxy S2
    Facinate
    Charge – Wifes

I don’t know how this is legal… It’s seems like wireless carriers can pitch us any fraud they can come up with and because they have a contract, they are not obligated to support customers after the sale.

I feel that Apple would have never allowed it customers to be treated this way! Sammy is all about selling units, thats ok, wait until its time to upgrade… I think VZW and Samsung will have a SH1T storm on their hands when the mass exodus comes. Im sure many, many current Samsung customers will look elsewhere for their next device. I also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and its STILL running Honeycomb and waiting for the ICS OTA push! With the exception of TVs, I will never purchase another Samsung product again!

I give up… ALL HAIL THE IPHONE 5!
