Verizon Galaxy Nexus Release Date and Pricing: What to Expect

Published

on

Unless you’ve been living under a giant boulder, you probably know that there is a phone called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus that is going to be coming to Verizon at some point in the future. It’s the third Nexus device from Google, second made by Samsung, and the first that offers 4G LTE data speed capabilities. In other words, it’s a device that’s worth waiting for.

Sadly, Verizon has marred the release with an HTC ThunderBolt-esque saga in that every day, there is another rumor regarding the device’s release date. And just like it did with the ThunderBolt, Verizon has decided to stay mum on the subject.

And as we continue to wait for Big Red to give us an official date, we thought it appropriate to recap what we’ve heard about the device’s release date and it’s pricing.

Back in October, Google and Samsung announced the Galaxy Nexus to great fanfare. Shortly afterward, Verizon revealed that it would be launching the Galaxy Nexus on its 4G LTE network “later this year.”

Shortly after that, the drama began.

A Ton Of Release Dates

The first dates that we saw all fell in November.

We saw November 3rd. We saw the 17th. The 21st. We heard pre-orders might start on November 29th. And then, rather strangely, November passed without any sort of release.

It was around that time that we learned that bugs might be giving Verizon difficulties and that December was, in fact, the launch month for the Galaxy Nexus. And unfortunately, December hasn’t been any different than November.

We’ve had two days, December 8th and December 9th, that seemed like locks. There was a ton of evidence out there suggesting that one of these was the day.

Neither happened.

Now we have another two dates. December 13th and December 15th, the latter of which we learned about today.

The clear favorite here is the 15th as it’s a Thursday and Verizon loves launching phones on Thursdays.

But even we have absolutely no idea if either of these will pan out or not. We’d think that Verizon would want to get this out before Christmas and we know that it promised it this year but you never can be too sure these days.

Pricing Should Be Familiar

Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus should fall in line with the other 4G LTE devices that Verizon has launched in the past few weeks. Those of course being the HTC Rezound and Motorola Droid RAZR.

We’ve seen a report from the Wall Street Journal that states that the Galaxy Nexus will cost the same $299 on-contract price found with the Rezound and Droid RAZR.

And at this point, we think it’s pretty safe to assume that the Galaxy Nexus is also going to cost the same $650 off-contract.

Are either of these set in stone? No.

But it’s what you should expect.

Thanks for another new-information-free passive aggressive post about the Nexus, Adam

Lol that’s what I was thinking. What was the purpose of this article? Anybody that cares enough about the Nexus to click on this article already knew all this long ago.

I expect to pick up a Nexus between Dec 15th and Dec 22nd.  More likely on the 15th.  I heard these dates a couple of weeks ago along with there was a chance it would be released earlier than that and I have a feeling these dates are correct.  With Verizon sending out $100 off 4G LTE phones, I’m hoping to get one but will gladly pay the full price to get one at this point in time.  Will go to the store the night before launch to see if I can get one then or at least reserve one.  I have a feeling that due to the cost and people not being patient, there won’t be lines forming the night before.  Both the Bionic and Razr would have been easy purchases.

Other than the geeks here on the Net, some people have heard of this phone but don’t know much about it except it was the Nexus Prime while others haven’t even heard of the phone.  So I have no idea what the first day demand will be like as I don’t know how many Android fanboys live in my area.  Don’t know when Verizon will start marketing it either but I would think Dec 13th will be the day for that.

I certainly agree with you about the 15th of December being a release date which isn’t too far off. I don’t think it will be the 22nd since its so close to Christmas. I hope not. But remember Verizon dis say “later this year” they never said an exact date back in October.

Verizon has promised a lot of things they haven’t delivered on!! I don’t think they want this phone, so they are waiting til something better comes out (apparently motorola)

Verizon is not really going to sell the Nexus. The Nexus will not be in the display of the store. It will be kept in the storage cage in the back of the store. The only way to get a Nexus is to ask for one, but that is only after you let an employee show and tell you every other single phone in the store for at least an hour. Then and only then you can request a Nexus in the back, but you’ll need the password in order for them to sell you

One shouldn’t compare the GNex to the “blunderbolt” even if it is just vzw’s handling of the launch. LOL. Great info tho, I hope I can afford one off contract.

Ok I’m as frustrated as the next guy about the release of the Nexus and tired of all the rumored release dates. I talked to a friend of mine who is a manager at a Verizon retailer here in Texas . I called him yesterday and asked about the Nexus and he said they would have a meeting in the morning to discuss the release. He called me this morning and said it will be out on December 15,2011.

With all the rumors floating around concerning the release date for the Galaxy Nexus, I have another (plausible) rumor figured out for everyone…
Much like the 11.11.11.11.11 RAZR release,Verizon will release the Samsung/Google NEXUS on the month, year, day, time of 11.12.13.14.15.16! That’s Sixteen seconds after 2:15pm on December 13th, 2011!

Any rumor is just as plausible as the next until Verizon announces the release date.  Just look at all the past rumors listed in the article that fell through.

      Keep waiting.

just spoke to a verizon employee, he told me release date was supposed to be the 9th, but now according to him, the phone got pushed back to feb of 2012, which conflicts with other reports of other verizon employees telling customers the 15 of this month..

It was odd…cuz once he told me that..he quickly changed the direction of the conversation to tell me in telling me all the great things about the RAZR…sometimes i wonder if verizon is just purposing delaying the nexus phone in order to sell other phones…. cuz verizon knows everyone will flock to the nexus…and hence neglecting all other phones on its shelf….

I hope the delays cause them to miss the x mas buying season…maybe we will see some buy 1 get 1 free deals after the holiday’s…..
