Verizon Galaxy Nexus Release Date Pushed to December?

Published

on

Take this news with a huge grain of salt but we don’t blame you if a single tear rolls down your face by the time you’re done taking it in. According to P3droid, Verizon may have pushed the release for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to December from November 21st, the date that many (myself included) expected to see the phone finally make its highly anticipated debut.

Verizon is apparently still in the middle of testing the device and that a few bugs need to be ironed out before the phone can be rolled out for the general public to consume.

Droid-Life is hearing December 1st, a Thursday, as a possible release date if Verizon is unable to get the Galaxy Nexus out in November. Verizon’s in-store marketing calendars apparently don’t mention anything about a Galaxy Nexus release either.

Yes, this is a little bit disheartening but again, this is just a rumor and it should be treated as such. No sense in getting worked up over something that may not be true.

We will say this though.

It’s a little odd that we haven’t heard a peep out of Verizon as of yet. That might have something to do with the HTC Rezound and Motorola Droid RAZR launches but we thought we’d have at least seen a teaser or something similar by now.

So December wouldn’t be shocking (remember, Verizon has only officially said “later this year” in regards to a release date), it just wouldn’t be optimal.

I haven’t seen Verizon do much of anything for the Rezound, just the Razr.  Not sure why that is.

I’m sure Verizon sees two MAJOR bugs with the Nexus: An unlocked bootloader and their bloatware not hard coded in rom. Expect them to integrate these mostly useless pay services into ICS like Microsoft does with Internet Explorer.

Failing that, expect this phone to simply go on sale. What we are clamoring for will simply be a low priority item to be stocked for Verizon. The things we love so much about the Nexus are things Verizon’s track record has proven nothing but hatred for.

Uh, you do realize what Nexus means right??

Absolutely… I also know what Verizon means too. If they fail to get their approach to even the flagship of the Android line, I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t another Nexus sold on Verizon.

Verizons concerns are the bottom line. Look at the HTC Rezound. It doesn’t even earn “top row” consideration on their available smartphone listings and this is it’s release day.

Make no mistake, I am going with this years Nexus and will do the same nextr year as well. I just hate to see Verizon tampering with what should be a “pure” Google experience. And if I am wrong, I will be wrong very happily.

I’ll also add that my “fears” are only compounded by the release of the ICS source. Sure Verizon has had it in hand for ages but with it in the public domain, they are open to legally integrating whatever crap they want to.

And likely have already coded just waiting for the ICS source formal release. Again, I really WANT to be wrong. I just know Verizon too well

my guess is they want to push sales on the New Moto Razr and push back the Nexus so that everyone will not jump ship in there 14 days return policy.. but either way this is a big F@ck up on Verizon..
