Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release: 5 Things to Know Now

Published

on

The Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop release, which first started back in February, is rolling out once again as a brand new build. With the Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update rolling out again, it’s time to take a look at a few things Verizon Galaxy S5 users need to know about the Android 5.0 upgrade and its new roll out.

In December, Samsung started rolling out its first Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The update kicked off on the Samsung Galaxy S5, the company’s flagship Galaxy S smartphone. The Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop release started off extremely slow, as most Samsung updates tend to do, but it has started picking up the pace in the new year.

Since its initial arrival, the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has landed for a number of different devices in a number of different regions including the United States. In February, Verizon became the first US carrier to offer the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. Verizon has historically been last or close to last on major Android updates so this release came as a complete surprise.

In the days that followed, Verizon Galaxy S5 users installed their upgrade to Lollipop, only to find that the update was plagued with problems. We heard from a number of Verizon Galaxy S5 users who were experiencing bad battery life, crashing, and poor performance in areas like connectivity. These are the same issues that have plagued a number of Samsung’s Galaxy Android 5.0 updates.

This week, perhaps in an effort to address those Galaxy S5 problems, Verizon’s rolling out a new Galaxy S5 Lollipop release. Verizon Galaxy S5 users will soon get a prompt on their phone that calls for them to install the brand new update. With a new roll out now upon Verizon users, it’s time to take a look at what Verizon Galaxy S5 users on Lollipop and otherwise need to know about the state of the Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop release.

New Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release

The first thing Verizon Galaxy S5 users need to know is that there is, in fact, a new piece of firmware rolling out for the device, just a few weeks after Verizon became the first carrier to issue a Galaxy S5 Lollipop update in the US.

Verizon first started rolling the update out two days ago, over the weekend, and it brings users to G900VVRU1BOC4 which is a brand new build from Samsung and Verizon.

The change log is identical to the Lollipop update that rolled out back in February which means that this update doesn’t bring anything new in terms of features. Instead, it’s likely going to address many of the problems found under the hood. This update will, at the very least, roll out to those that did not get the first version of the Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. It is rolling out to other Galaxy S5 users as well.

Roll Out Shouldn’t Take Long

If Verizon’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update hasn’t appeared in the past two days, it probably will soon. Verizon’s Android updates typically emerge within a week or so. Verizon Galaxy S5 users anxious to get Android 5.0 Lollipop will want to check inside the device’s settings once or twice a day to see if the update is lurking around.

Those who are a little more patient can simply sit around and wait for the prompt to appear. If nothing goes wrong during the roll out, the update should be out to all compatible devices in the near future.

Galaxy S5 Lollipop Problems

Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop problems are still a problem for many Galaxy S5 users and it’s not clear how many issues, if any, this new software might fix. Several reports claim that Verizon halted the original update, probably due to bugs, and with the change log looking the exact same, it’s safe to assume that there are at least some changes on board.

The carrier’s Galaxy S5 forums are full of complaints about Android 5.0 Lollipop issues including battery life, reboots, and tons of smaller isolated issues that have impacted performance. Several users have said that the Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update ruined their phone.

While Verizon’s new Galaxy S5 Lollipop update should come with some fixes attached to it, there’s a very good chance that it will come with some problems of its own. I installed Lollipop on my Verizon S5right after original rollout. Had to do a factory reset a few weeks later in hopes of fixing massive lag issues and battery drain (it helped some). Got notified of another software update today which took about 10 minutes to install. So far everything seems to be running a lot smoother. Battery life has improved too.

Got the first rollout of 5.0 on March 1. Very unhappy (poor battery life, lagging, crashes). Didn’t do the factory reset in hopes of a quick 2nd rollout. It came on March 31 (…B0C4). Much, much improved. Verizon. S5

So mad that Verizon forced this on me. I loved my phone, it was perfect and I’d spent a lot of time choosing which smartphone to get last Christmas and even switched to verizon. Why does Verizon care if I do or don’t get lollipop??! I loved the way my phone looked and texts, contacts, calculator, calendar etc wad displayed. I chose this phone for this and then they go and swith everything on me against my will, everything is ugly & I hate it. I did not install update but was tricked into it. Everytime I turned my phone on it tried to get me to download it and it was randomly popping up when I was using my phone. I always backed out,and then one day when I was using my phone and went to push button it popped up and I inadvertently pushed install now and could not cancel. Now my phone no longer shows if I have new messages on my front screen. I have to keep typing in my password and going into my phone to make sure I haven’t missed any. Hate, samsung. Hate lollipop. Hare verizon. Never again :( I feel screwed. I paid good money for that phone and the way it looked, why would they bait, and switch like this? Can’t I get my old phone back? It’s mine, what right do they have to do this and trick me?

I did the upgrade on June 22nd and since I have seen battery life decreased and slower reaction to opening apps and my screen freezing, often.
    Not happy.
I’ll look into one of the fixes or a reset.
Spoke with my brother yesterday and he had the same issues with his and reset his phone.
My wife said she has not had any problems with hers?!
