Verizon Galaxy S6 Release Date Breakdown

Published

on

The Verizon Galaxy S6 release date has finally been confirmed thanks to the start of Verizon Galaxy S6 pre-orders. With details flying around, we want to take a look at the most important things buyers need to know about the official Verizon Galaxy S6 release date.

Earlier this month, Samsung and its US carrier partners announced the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The two new flagship smartphones will replace the Galaxy S5 as the flagship models and they will join the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge as Samsung hopes to compete against the HTC One M9, LG G4 and iPhone 6.

Verizon, like its rivals, quickly confirmed both devices for release. At the time, the company didn’t reveal much, leaving the pertinent Verizon Galaxy S6 release information for another date. A few weeks later, Verizon confirmed Galaxy S6 pre-orders for April 1st and we, like many others, assumed that that would be when we’d find out about the official concrete Verizon Galaxy S6 release date. Our suspicions were correct.

Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge pre-orders are now live and those who have decided on one of the two devices as their next phone can put in an early order. The company is now taking pre-orders through its online portal and through its physical retail locations.

With Verizon Galaxy S6 pre-orders now live, we want to dig into what we now know about the Verizon Galaxy S6 release for both models. This breakdown covers some of the bigger details but it also takes a look at some of the smaller Verizon Galaxy S6 release date details that you could potentially miss in today’s chaos.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Release Date

Just as we suspected, Verizon’s Galaxy S6 pre-orders have confirmed the company’s Galaxy S6 release date. Verizon, like its rivals, will release the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge online and in-stores on April 10th. While this was expected, it’s still nice to see Verizon release a phone alongside its rivals. Hopefully this trend continues with future Android smartphone launches.

Gold Galaxy S6 Release Date

Now there is one little Verizon Galaxy S6 release date hiccup that’s worth noting. While the black and white Galaxy S6 variants are going to be released on April 10th, the gold Verizon Galaxy S6 release date will fall on April 21st, nearly two weeks after the initial release.

This isn’t too surprising given that the gold Verizon Galaxy S6 was a late addition but it means that those who don’t want the regular old white or black will have to wait a little bit longer for the device to arrive.

Best Buy is also taking pre-orders for the Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge but it’s not offering pre-orders for the gold Verizon Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge. At least not yet.

Best Buy Verizon Galaxy S6

Best Buy is currently is taking Verizon Galaxy S6 pre-orders both in stores and online. If you are planning to buy the device on-contract, you’re going to find the a familiar price setup. Best Buy’s Verizon Galaxy S6 pricing matches Verizon’s. However, if you’re looking to buy off-contract, the pricing is going to be a whole lot different.

Verizon’s off-contract pricing starts at $600 for the 32GB Galaxy S6. Best Buy’s? It starts at $750 for the same exact model. So unless you want to pay a premium for either the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, we suggest buying through Verizon itself or waiting for another retailer to start taking Verizon Galaxy S6 pre-orders.

Best Buy and other stores offer early access to try the Galaxy S6 before the release on April 10th.

Best Buy and other stores offer early access to try the Galaxy S6 before the release on April 10th.

Amazon is taking AT&T and Sprint Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge pre-orders and it usually takes pre-orders for Verizon smartphones so should see the Verizon models pop up soon.

Reminder: Verizon Edge vs. Two-Year Contract

We recently put together a comparison that highlights the differences between Verizon Edge and a new two year contract. We highly recommend taking a look at that if you’re not sure how to buy the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge on Verizon.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Deals

There are a couple of deals that have popped up for Verizon Galaxy S6 and Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge buyers. Best Buy is offering a free charging pad which is a $60 value. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with built-in wireless charging so this is definitely a deal worth looking at. There is one caveat that buyers need to be aware of though.

The deal only extends through April 11th, or, a day after the Verizon Galaxy S6 release date in the United States. So you’ll need to act pretty quickly if you’re interested in the deal.

Verizon is also hosting a trade-in ahead of the Galaxy S6 release that might appeal to those of you that own the Galaxy S5. There is obviously some fine print involved but Verizon’s trade-in will help you get some money to put towards your new Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge. It’s not going to be for everyone but it’s worth taking a look at.

Verizon Galaxy S5 Price Cut

Verizon’s finally offering a Galaxy S5 price cut. After a year at $199.99 and up, the Verizon Galaxy S5 price has dropped down to the more reasonable $99 on-contract.

Galaxy S6 Gotchas & Catches

There are a couple of smaller details that we think you need to know about as well. First off, the Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge price tags come with a $50 mail-in rebate debit card. Translation: You pay $250 for the 32GB Verizon Galaxy S6 and Verizon will send you a $50 debit card to knock $50 off the price of the phone. Verizon says that the mail-in rebate debit card could take up to six weeks to arrive in the mail and that it does have a shelf life of 12 months.

The other is pertains to early Verizon Galaxy S6 upgrades. There is a big catch there that upgraders need to be aware of. Verizon’s hosting a special offer that appears to apply to the Galaxy S6 during the checkout process. Problem is, it doesn’t apply to the Galaxy S6 at all.

They need to come out with an otterbox for the S6 edge. I believe that they can do it but are just being lazy about it.
