Verizon HTC One: Making Sense of the Rumors

Published

on

The Verizon HTC One is heading to shelves at some point this summer, problem is, consumers do not know exactly when the device is going to be touching down on shelves. Making matters worse, consumers still don’t know how much the device will cost or what it will have on board when it finally does arrive. With rumors swirling, it’s time to try and make some sense out of the Verizon HTC One rumors.

Back in June, HTC and Verizon confirmed the HTC One for arrival. And while consumers were likely expecting the companies to divulge all of the details, HTC and Verizon instead took a vastly different, extremely confusing approach. Instead of simply offering up their entire hand, they decided to hold their cards close to their chest, opting not to deliver any of the pertinent information that consumers were after.

We could see a Verizon HTC One at the Verizon announcement.

The Verizon HTC One will be joining the other HTC One variants this summer.

Since early June, the Verizon HTC One release date, its pricing and its full feature list have been unknown, leaving consumers puzzled and frustrated. To this day, the companies remain mum on the details with Verizon refusing comment to Gotta Be Mobile and HTC continuing to promise news as soon as possible to the legions of consumers that are still holding out for this device.

Like most semi-official smartphones, the Verizon HTC One has a number of rumors out there in regards to its features and its release date, rumors that have of course, teased those that have been looking into buying HTC’s current flagship.

Those who have been waiting have likely been eating up those rumors in their quest to figure out the pertinent Verizon HTC One details. For many, the rumors have likely been a bit hard to digest and like all rumors, it’s tough to discern fact from fantasy.

While we may not have all the answers, we do have some strong opinions and it’s now time to take a close look at the most current Verizon HTC One rumors in an attempt to make sense of them all.

Verizon HTC One Release Date

Rumor has it, the Verizon HTC One release date will fall on August 1st, the day after HTC ends Google Play promotion for the current versions of the HTC One on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

We also saw the first HTC One press image leak showcasing a September 5th date on board, a date that falls in and around the IFA 2013 conference, the same conference where Samsung is expected to announce the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

HTC and Verizon both maintain that the Verizon HTC One release date will fall sometime within the confines of summer so it’s difficult to say which date is correct. Summer ends on September 21st.

At this point, there are a few things to consider when it comes to the Verizon HTC One release date:

  • The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean roll out in the United States.
  • The Droid Ultra & Droid Ultra Maxx launch set for tomorrow.
  • The Moto X launch on August 1st.

Verizon is expected to launch the HTC One with Android 4.2 on board, an update that hasn’t hit U.S. carriers as of yet. Verizon is likely still working on the update with the likes of AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and it could be Android 4.2 that’s holding the device back.

Tomorrow, Verizon will be announcing the Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX and Droid Mini. Verizon may have been waiting to announce these before revealing the HTC One release date.

On August 1st, Motorola will debut the Moto X, a device that’s expected to head to Verizon. That is also the same date that is penciled in as the Verizon HTC One release date. Coincidence?

And finally, September 5th is a date that falls just ahead of IFA. HTC is rumored to be announcing a new HTC One Max later this year to compete against the Galaxy Note 3 and that date could very well represent an HTC launch date. Verizon is rumored to be coming out with an HTC One Max.

The Moto X launches August 1st, a rumored Verizon HTC One release date.

The Moto X launches August 1st, a rumored Verizon HTC One release date.

What it comes down to is this. Last year’s Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR HD MAXX came out in September after being announced in August. The Moto X is rumored for late August on Verizon and various other carriers. If the Droids hit in September and the Moto X in late August, that gives Verizon a nice little early August window for the HTC One.

Verizon likes to space out its device launches and getting an HTC One out in early August ahead of these devices makes a whole lot of sense. Releasing in early September around the time of the HTC One Max, Galaxy Note 3, Moto X and likely the Droids, doesn’t make much sense.

So at this point, we’re betting on early August. Maybe not August 1st, but sometime soon.

Verizon HTC One Hardware

Last month, we saw HTC issue a statement on its Twitter page that seemed to suggest that Verizon would be releasing the same HTC One as the other models. Specifically, the company told a prospective buyer to go check out the other variants in order to prepare for the device’s launch. This lines up with the press image that we saw.

This Verizon HTC One press image shows a september 6th date, which would place the HTC One Max as coming a day after the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, according to the latest rumors.

The design looked exactly the same as the other models and there was no indication that anything on board including the screen size. It’s impossible to say exactly what’s under the hood and given rumors of a new souped up HTC One, buyers are likely hoping for a faster processor or something different.

We saw HTC give AT&T an exclusive over the 64GB HTC One but we don’t expect to see the Verizon HTC One hold an exclusive on a faster processor or more RAM. Instead, we expect it to be the same exact device, just with Verizon branding and Verizon LTE.

Verizon HTC One Software

Rumors suggest that the HTC One for Verizon will arrive with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board, not Android 4.3 and not Android 4.1. This makes a whole lot of sense.

Android 4.2 just rolled out for the HTC One models in regions other than the U.S. The software will be coming to the U.S. at some point and Verizon, knowing how late to the device it is, will need to be on par with the other models to keep the competition level.

As for Android 4.3, it’s set to make a debut later this week but it likely won’t arrive on non-Nexus devices for at least a few weeks, maybe longer. Nexus devices typically have the software well advance and that makes slim odds of an HTC One running Android 4.3 stock. Don’t expect it, particularly because the Android 4.2.2 rumor came from @LLabTooFeR, a well-connected source.

Verizon HTC One Price

We haven’t seen anything emerge in regards to the price of the Verizon HTC One which means it’s an utter mystery. At this point, given how long AT&T has had the exclusive 64GB HTC One, we don’t expect Verizon to get it. We also don’t expect Verizon to launch the HTC One with a discounted price tag, knowing that there is still demand for this phone.

So until we see otherwise, $199.99 on-contract is going to likely be the cost of the Verizon HTC One when it arrives.

First article I’ve read from Adam…my last also. No facts, just speculation. Bad enough to read it once, but he repeats it 2-3 times! Please take a journalism class, and have an editor review your article before submitting them! The most difficult tech article to read that I’ve ever encountered.

So I was talking to a Verizon rep yesterday and I asked if they had any info on the htc one and they stated that it looks like they have cases for the phone already set to sale but the phone doesn’t appear to come out in their system.

Dude…do you ever write an article with actual, credible information? Or are they all based completely off of rumors, and ones you’ve sponged elsewhere at that?

If you don’t like his articles, don’t read them. It’s as simple as that. Better yet, how about you go and write your own articles on your own website. Since you seem to know so much.

TRK, we don’t expect to read such poorly written articles, with no facts, and everything repeated 2-3X. Nothing this poorly written should be published! There is just no excuse for such poor writing.

It says “making sense of the rumors”…what did you expect? New rumors? But, I guess it could have been summed up with…

    Making sense of the rumors.

    Nothing new. That is all.

It takes courage to read the tea leaves and make, what I consider to be relatively astute conclusions. Adam never said he was reporting facts. The culprit here is a vendor who simply is really bad at managing the expectations of their customer base. I simply cannot understand what Verizon has to gain by playing cat and mouse games with us. Just share your damn roadmap, and let us make informed decisions.
