Verizon HTC One Release Promised “Soon” to Frustrated Buyers

Published

on

The Verizon HTC One is official but its release date, features and price remain unknown several weeks after it was first announced. Needless to say, prospective buyers are frustrated about how the launch has played out and for its part, HTC is telling those thinking about switching to other carriers that it will be out sometime “soon” though it still refuses to say when.

For weeks now, the Verizon HTC One launch confusion has waged on as both HTC and Verizon continue to keep the most pertinent details hidden from view. The two companies finally confirmed the device several weeks ago, however, they failed to announce any of the important details including its release date, its pricing or even its features.

The Verizon HTC One still doesn't have a release date.

The Verizon HTC One still doesn’t have a release date.

In the past few days, it has become clear that the HTC One for Verizon will likely be no different than the other HTC One models though pricing and a specific release date remain out of view.

Needless to say, many people are frustrated with the situation and continue to pepper HTC and Verizon with questions pertaining to the release of the HTC One on the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. HTC in particular has been inundated with questions and unlike Verizon, has been surprisingly candid with consumers about the missing Verizon HTC One.

While it hasn’t shared many specific details, it is responding to frustrated consumers. The latest volley of questions from consumers was a mix of the usual. Consumers asking where the device is, expressing their frustration with the situation and consumers threatening to head to another carrier to get the HTC One.

It’s the last of those three inquires that prompted HTC to again tell consumers that the device should be here “soon.” While this doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be out tomorrow, it’s a sign that the company and carrier likely won’t be waiting until September and the end of summer to release the Verizon HTC One.

At the same time, HTC’s social media accounts claim to have no knowledge of the company’s plans saying that consumers have as much knowledge as they do about the release. Whether this is true or not remains unclear but whatever the case may be, HTC is the one making promises to consumers, knowledge or not.

With the roll out of the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update imminent, it’s possible that we could see an announcement sooner rather than later. We’ve been hearing that the Verizon HTC One could debut in a few weeks but HTC and Verizon have yet to confirm. And it’s clear that asking for answers isn’t going to produce any clear information.

Thanks to Verizon’s obstinance I have learned a lot about AT&T. I learned (via rootmetrics) that in the towns I live in and frequent Verizon *used* to be the best network but AT&T is actually beating them now with LTE . I learned that AT&T pricing is basically identical to VZW. Even if VZW launches the One tomorrow they won’t be offering the 64GB version which I’m inclined to get because then I can put ALL my music on it and never need an iPod again. If VZW had announced a release date sometime in the last few weeks I never would have done the legwork but now it seems clear.

I am going to pull the trigger, most likely today. Adios, Verizon!

I might be right behind you. My phone is DOA and I need one NOW. AT&T with HTC One at Costco. I don’t really want to change but I can’t wait any longer.

I would do the same, but Verizon has the NFL Network partnership and the live games on the phone is keeping me on Big Red, not the network speeds or quality.

If the guy running HTC’s twitter account literally knows no more than we do, than his use of ‘soon’ means no more than if we say it.

And of course, the obligatory, daily ,useless Verizon HTC One article not even by just GottaBeMobile, but by Adam Mills. Come on man, this is ridiculous.

Yes indeed another daily Verizon HTC One article telling us nothing new. Anyone still waiting on Verizon is foolish when other carriers are already offering it on discount.

“soon” and “later this summer” are so vague, and you know that they have a date they are just keeping it a secret. It’s straight BS and I HTC is about to lose my business to Samsung because of the ridiculous launch of the HTC One on Verizon.

you know you people seriously amaze me,getting all worked up,and for what, over a phone?!Seriously? Do some of you just sit around wait for something to complain about I wonder? It is a phone, and yes other carriers have it. However,I dont believe from what I know of the other carriers in the states, that any of them have the stringent and thorough testing of their phones as Verizon does. Verizon has carried several good phone the past few years. My last 3 have been Samsung Rogue which was mostly good, then I previously had the HTC Droid Incredible(1st one,and a little better than the Rogue),and now the HTC Rezound, which of all those three has been the best Verizon phone I have had,and yes, even when compared to I Phone blows it out of the water,I Phone is just too basic and small to read the screen, plus its overpriced and overrated(of course most I Phone users wont ever admit their phone ever does anything wrong). My point is that since I have been on Verizon the past 6 years,I rarely have any dropped calls, signal is very good,4G speeds on my Rezound have been very good, and other carriers might carry Windows phones,I Phone, and the recent Galaxy S4,but even the S4 is way too plasticky for me,I want something that feels solid and sorry Galaxy phone users, the One looks and feels solid based on comments from buyers and companies who have tested it. I dont sit around waiting for a phone to come around,I check the reviews, check prices, compare selected phones I am interested in and then pick the overall best one between the ones I have been looking that. Some of you seriously need to just grow up and act like adults. The One is coming to Verizon and it is going to sell very well, and HTC is going to have a good year in part to this phone. Thank you.

You take other peoples situations too little into consideration.

I’ve been waiting on a worthy phone for nearly 6 months now. My current phone (the Droid X) is almost 3 years old and its deteriorated so much that its almost unusable. Right now as a matter of fact the only way it’ll stay on is if its plugged into the wall and I place something heavy on the cord where it enters into the phone at a certain angle.. I have to make every call on speaker phone because it’ll instantly go from 100% battery to 10% then 5% within (literally) 10 seconds which means I cant pick it up or move it.. and lastly the phone lags so much that I fear it’ll die on me while I’m sending a long text message or (heaven forbid) use a heavy app (happened before and had to retype..).

Also, I live in the country.. No, I dont mean some suburb on the edge of town. I mean country as in theres a freaking watermelon field across the street and cows within walking distance. Verizon is about the ONLY carrier that has a strong signal out here and since I refuse to settle for any of that cheap plasticy crap thats on the market the HTC One is my ONLY option.. Now, do you think any of that warrants being a little concerned about the bullcrap Verizon is pulling on this release?

The bottom line as I read it is that if you want an HTC One and Verizon is your carrier, then either move to AT&T or fuggeddaboutit! The best I can see Verizon doing is announce the “One” in a couple of weeks and then take 3 or 4 more to get them to customers. So we are talking August at best.

I recently “tried out” AT&T in the SF Bay Area (north bay) and expected poor coverage. What I found was a carrier on par with Verizon. The SF Bay Area was one of those areas that “used to be” poor AT&T. They clearly have been hard at work improving things. Verizon is sitting on their “laurels” of being the “big guy”. Now that isn’t very true.

The real question is do you want a company that is tring to give you the best (service and equipment) or do you want the fat lazy cat who no longer cares?

I have had cell phones since 1990. Yes that makes me old(re), but I have seen these carriers flip flop all over the place with time. There has NEVER been. Carrier that has always been the best. That is why they want to keep you on contract. I am going to switch to AT&T, and keep it contract- less ( because I am fortunate enough to afford it). I expect at some point I will switch to someone else. But the lack of phones at Verizon is very “telling” right now. Good luck!

Update from my earlier post: I pulled the trigger. I get a few discounts through my employer which takes some of the sting out of the cost of switching to ATT from VZW. I should have a 64MB Silver One on ATT sometime next week. I have 30 days to change my mind so I guess there’s a *chance* that Verizon will offer something so cool that I will want to go back but from what I can tell that’s pretty unlikely. I know that ATT is just as evil a company to deal with as VZW but at least they consistently carry handsets that I like. Something tells me my wife is going to be very interested in the S4 active when her contract is up.
