Verizon HTC One Release: What Not to Expect

Published

on

The Verizon HTC One release date is getting closer though a specific date remains unknown. With consumers desperately seeking information from HTC and Verizon, it’s only a matter of time before they finally deliver the goods. In the meantime, it’s time to take a look at what consumers shouldn’t expect from the upcoming HTC One release on Verizon.

Several weeks ago, after months of rumors and speculation, HTC and Verizon finally confirmed a device that many consumers were hoping was real. The device in question of course was the HTC One, HTC’s all-metal flagship that was announced in New York City back in February and which arrived on a host of American carriers back in April.

We could see a Verizon HTC One at the Verizon announcement.

The Verizon HTC One release date is still unknown.

AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all boast the HTC One on their networks at the moment and the 5-inch HTC One is arguably the best available option on all three. Of course, the HTC One launch in the United States is not over and AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile will soon be joined by the nation’s largest 4G LTE service provider, Verizon Wireless.

For months, rumors of an HTC One for Verizon persisted and those rumors were finally confirmed a few weeks ago in a hasty announcement from Verizon on Twitter. The announcement confirmed the HTC One for the summer but it did not reveal any of the pertinent details in regards to the Verizon HTC One release.

Since then, HTC and Verizon have been dodging questions about the release, meaning, the Verizon HTC One release date, price and features remain a mystery.

We’ve already taken a look at what to expect from the Verizon HTC One release and now, ahead of its arrival, it’s time to take a look at what not to expect from Verizon’s upcoming HTC One release.

Verizon HTC One Release Date Beyond July

Verizon hasn’t issued a release date for the HTC One but that doesn’t mean that we can’t make some educated guesses as to when the device will touch down.

Previously, we heard from the reliable @evleaks that the device would arrive before the end of June. With 10 days left, it’s possible that Verizon will get the HTC One out before the end of the month. And while that may or may not be true, consumers should not expect a release date to fall outside of June or July.

The HTC One release date on Verizon should come before the end of July.

The HTC One release date on Verizon should come before the end of July.

Though August is a summer month, it’s unlikely to be the HTC One’s release month on Verizon. The carrier would be putting it too close to other big name smartphones launches like the iPhone 5S and Galaxy Note 3. We also likely wouldn’t have seen Verizon announce the phone that early if it planned to release it two months from the announcement date. If it was a new device, sure, but not an old one like the HTC One.

We’ve also seen signs of Verizon clearing out stock of the Droid Incredible 4G LTE and Droid DNA in anticipation of the HTC One’s arrival so at this point, consumers shouldn’t expect anything beyond July in terms of a release.

An offer that HTC is running for the HTC One, one that lists Verizon as a carrier, ends on July 15th. Perhaps we see a release by that date.

A Pre-Order

At this point, consumers shouldn’t expect a pre-order for this device. Verizon loves to offer pre-orders on big name devices but given how late in the game this launch is already, we expect Verizon to make the device and release date official and release the phone a day or two afterward.

The only way that Verizon offers a pre-order is if this phone is several weeks away from release and at this point, we don’t expect to see the device emerge anywhere past the middle of July.

So instead of a pre-order, consumers should expect to see the device land on shelves shortly after the official announcement.

A Sell Out

No doubt about it, there is great demand for the Verizon HTC One. The HTC One is a solid smartphone and Verizon’s 4G LTE network is the largest in the land. This is a phone that people have been waiting for and it’s a phone that is likely to get scooped up by thousands of people come release day. However, don’t expect a sell out.

Competition is fierce. Don't expect a sell out.

Competition is fierce. Don’t expect a sell out.

Not only has HTC recovered from its supply issues but many of those that would have bought the Verizon HTC One in April have since moved on to other carriers or other devices. Translation: There will be demand, just not as much as there would have been had Verizon launched the device when it first came out.

Prospective buyers should expect to find ample HTC One stock as we don’t expect there to be any supply issues with this device when it arrives.

Android 4.3

Though Android 4.3 is rumored for arrival sometime in the next few weeks, consumers should not expect it to be on board the Verizon HTC One when it arrives. First, the device has been rumored to have Android 4.2 Jelly Bean stock. Second, Android 4.3, if real, will first emerge for Nexus devices. The Verizon HTC One is not a Nexus device.  And third, HTC’s own Nexus, the HTC One Nexus, will have Android 4.2 on board when it arrives June 26th.

Too many signs point to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean instead of Android 4.3. Fortunately, the update isn’t expected to be anything substantial though it should stlll offer some benefits that HTC One owners are interested in, particularly those that utilize Bluetooth.

Surprises

Don't expect any Verizon HTC One surprises.

Don’t expect any Verizon HTC One surprises.

Don’t expect any Verizon HTC One surprises. What we mean by that is, those hoping for a microSD card slot, a removable back, a 5-inch 1080p display, or Droid branding simply aren’t going to see it.

Instead, expect the HTC One that consumers have grown to know and love. That means a 4.7-inch display with 1080 resolution. That means a non-removable back. And that means 32GB of on board storage without the ability to expand.

HTC and Verizon would not have announced the HTC One as the HTC One if it were going to be something entirely different from the models that arrived earlier this year on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

I have been reading these articles non-stop as well…and feel the pain of all us Verizon customers desperately wanting this phone to be released. I went on Verizon Wireless chat today and asked my service representative…he did the “all we know is summer sometime…i can’t speculate”….game for a while but i convinced him to make his educated guess based on things he may or may not have heard. His final reply was “I would assume before July”. He did however make it clear that was just his opinion. I really hope his opinion is correct…

Question: Why shouldnt we expect anything new/different to be added to our HTC Ones with it taking this long? The Verizon branding as shown in the picture would have been done easily in a weeks time in any factory worth its weight. And as for 4.3, why not expect it either? Software developers sometimes finish a game or program months or weeks in advance and use the rest of the time for extensive testing and marketing (mainly games).. Can it not be said that perhaps 4.3 is simply in the testing phases and Verizon is pushing HTC to finish up testing so that we get it first while its in late-beta? While I wasnt expecting an SD slot (half way at least.. though it can be done) I believe that its still logical to believe we’ll be in for something that’ll make our wait worthwhile.

Wanted it…Don’t anymore. Great business plan, Verizon. Let your customers salivate for phones you don’t carry, then release them when their old and ready for a new model. Pathetic.

Ya know… you guys are all being rude to this guy about his repetitive articles… yet… if you have the damn phone already… why are YOU here? It seems you obviously have nothing better to do. I mean… he obviously cares about this subject so he writes about it but once again… why are you posting anything on this subject when it doesn’t concern you? These other people are still waiting for this phone just like me so at least they have a little bit of an excuse for their frustrations. You.. you’re being a man-child and insulting people out of boredom so give it up. Let him do his thing and you go do yours.

Hey guys, I totally understand your frustration with this release… I’ve already had the phone on Sprint and then switched back to Verizon cuz the service wasn’t good enough… I had this AMAZING phone and then had to start using my 1st Gen Incredible again…. Very depressing. However, as much as I understand the frustration and admit that I myself have even gotten a little irritated doing my searches everyday and seeing these articles instead of anything reguarding the release date.. ITS NOT HIS FAULT.. So don’t take your frustration out on him. Ya think maybe he enjoys writing.. ya know.. since he does it so often? Don’t begrudge him his passion for writing, grow up, and let the guy do his thing. Oh.. and patience.. my local verizon store says its coming end of june – early july.
