While the Verizon won’t be launching the HTC One when AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint do in just a few weeks, the carrier with the largest 4G LTE network in the United States is said to have a variant in testing with a release date that evidently could come in three to four months.

On February 19th, HTC announced the HTC One, its flagship smartphone that is going to replace the HTC One X+ and HTC One X with some high-end hardware and the new HTC Sense, HTC Sense 5.0. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have thrown their weight behind the device and currently, it is thought to be arriving on March 22nd.

The HTC One for Verizon is rumored to be in testing.

The HTC One for Verizon is rumored to be in testing.

The carrier with the largest 4G LTE network in the land, Verizon, was left out of the party, however it doesn’t look like a Verizon HTC One is down and out just yet.

The same Twitter account the leaked a possible specification for a Verizon HTC One, noted HTC leakster @LlabTooFeR (originally known as Football4PDA), is back with another vague mention of Verizon’s missing variant.

In response to a question about the Verizon HTC One, the person behind the account says that the Verizon HTC One model is currently in early testing. It is suggested that the model may not be coming to shelves for three to four months, or long after the release of the HTC One and also, the Samsung Galaxy S4, a device that is said to be also coming to Verizon’s network in the weeks ahead.

The account uses the word “probably” which means that it could certainly land earlier, or later, or maybe not even at all. Verizon has not confirmed the device and the only evidence we’ve seen is a leaked specification sheet, from the same Twitter account, showing off a device called the DLXPlus_WL for Verizon.

The HTC DLX is also known as the HTC Butterfly which is the Droid DNA on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. So, it could be that Verizon’s version of the HTC One is actually a sequel to the Droid DNA which launched in November of last year.

In any event, this seems to all but rule out any kind of surprise HTC One launch on Verizon this month or anytime soon.

My two-year ball and chain with Verizon has expired. Looks like it’s time to go with a carrier that can offer me an HTC One!
