$99 Verizon iPhone 5 Deal Arrives, But Not Available to Everyone

Published

on

Earlier today, Verizon’s website, for a time, showed the iPhone 5 price as being $99.99, $100 cheaper than the device’s usual starting price tag of $199.99. The mystery is no more though as the carrier confirmed to Gotta Be Mobile that it is indeed offering a $99 iPhone 5 deal though it’s not going to be available to just anyone.

As we approach a possible iPhone 5S launch, consumers are likely trying to decide whether to buy the iPhone 5, another device, or simply wait for the iPhone 5S to arrive before making a purchase. Those on the fence were treated to something peculiar earlier today when Verizon’s website, for a time, showed the iPhone 5 as being available for $99.99 on-contract.

That’s an impressive discount from its $199.99 price tag, a price that should remain constant, at most places, until the arrival of the next iPhone model sometime later this year.

The iPhone 5S will reportedly bring the same design.

Verizon is hosting an iPhone 5 deal that drops the price to $99.

The price disappeared without a trace however, leaving interested consumers wondering if the price was a mistake or if it was a sign of something to come in the future. We have gotten to the bottom of the situation and here is what we have learned.

Verizon has told Gotta Be Mobile that there is indeed a $99.99 iPhone 5 promotion going on and it’s one that will last until June 30th. The offer though is only for a select few Verizon customers that Verizon has “identified as being interested in making the transition to a smartphone.”

Those customers will be receiving an email alerting them to the deal which knocks off $100 from the usual price of the iPhone 5. Verizon tells us that many  “basic phone customers are interested in moving to a smartphone and the iPhone 5 is an ideal solution for those customers. This promotion gives customers an affordable option to help them make the transition.”

The iPhone 5 is facing stiff competition in 2013.

The carrier did not elaborate on what qualifies customers for the deal and it also stressed that not every basic phone customer will be getting the offer, only those that it has identified as those who are interested in potentially upgrading to the iPhone 5.

The promotion will last until the end of next month which means that it will last through Apple’s WWDC developer conference which is set to kick off in the middle of the month.

Apple has been rumored to be releasing its new iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 5S, sometime later this year with early rumors suggesting a summer arrival and the latest pointing to the fall.

I just called verizon customer service and they did not offer this deal even though my husband is on a dumb phone and IS eligible for an upgrade. I then called my local store and they told me that this may be a third party website but not the store. The iphone 4s is $99 and the iphone 5 is $199.

It is true. I got a text from verizon last night and just upgraded over the phone today. I was also eligible to get unlimited talk, text, and 2gb data for $60/month.

This is really a bunch of BS. I just upgraded my phone 2 weeks ago for $99, now the price shows as $199. I want to upgrade my daughters dumbphone to an iphone as well.
