Verizon Note Edge Release: What You Need to Know Now

Published

on

As we push deeper into the month of December and toward the end of the year, the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date is still missing in action leaving interested consumers wondering if, and when, Verizon might release the curved counterpart to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. In response to that, we take an updated look at everything we know, right now, about the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release.

Verizon’s Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and one that’s intriguing given the unique and powerful specifications that it has on board. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus like the Galaxy Note 4.

The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge was first announced back in September but it took a few months for it to arrive on carriers inside the United States. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are now selling the Galaxy Note Edge through their physical retail locations and through their online portals, offering consumers a solid alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Verizon, for one reason or another, still has yet to confirm its Galaxy Note Edge release date. Same goes for the United States’ fifth largest carrier, U.S. Cellular. The lack of a release date has prospective Verizon Galaxy Note Edge buyers looking for answers, answers that the carrier simply won’t offer in the months after the Galaxy Note Edge launch date.

We’ve spoken to several people who are on the fence about buying the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge and we don’t blame them at this point. It’s been three months since the phone was announced and several weeks since the other top U.S. carriers released the device onto shelves. Today, we want to take an updated look at everything we know about the Verizon Galaxy Note release date. We’ve seen some new details emerge in recent days and we also want to recap older details for those that may have missed out.

Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Date MIA

The first thing you need to know is that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date is still missing in action. We thought that Verizon might try to capitalize on the visibility of Black Friday but that obviously didn’t materialize. Instead, we’re back to square one and we’ve neither heard, nor seen anything about its upcoming release date.

The carrier’s sign up page still lists it as “coming soon” and Samsung still lists it on its website which means that the release could come at any time. Our guess, at this point, is that the release date is going to come out of thin air without much warning. It’s clear that Verizon isn’t putting too much stock into this phone and it probably won’t get the red carpet treatment when it arrives. Announcement, release, and done.

Of course, the question now is, when is this going to happen? Verizon tells us that “we don’t have any updates to share yet” regarding the Galaxy Note Edge release date. So, it’s not clear when the company plans to finally unveil this device. It’s all a bit strange given that Verizon was among the first to confirm the Galaxy Note Edge’s arrival but it shouldn’t be too surprising. Verizon is often late to smartphone releases.

Verizon did, however, promise to let us know when the Galaxy Note Edge is available.

Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Still Coming

That language, to us, means that the carrier is still planning to release the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge. We’ve gotten a lot of questions asking whether or not it still plans to make it available. The concern is that we’re getting deep into the year and we’ve seen nothing. With Verizon telling us that it will let us know when it’s available, we have to assume that a release is still on the way. With FCC and GCF filings available, we have to assume that a release is on the way.

Remember, the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date received clearance from the FCC several weeks ago so it’s now on Samsung and Verizon to get the device out onto shelves. These companies would not have gone to the trouble if they did not plan on releasing this phone so it’s only a matter of time before we get an announcement. Hopefully, that announcement comes before the end of the year but nothing is guaranteed.

We know that some regions (Canada) won’t be getting the Galaxy Note Edge until next year so it’s possible that Verizon’s launch will extend into 2015. There’s no guarantee but it’s a possibility at this point.

Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Price

Still haven’t heard anything about the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge price but what we can say is that we still haven’t seen any details for this device in the United States. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and the retailers that carry the Galaxy Note Edge have kept the models at their steep price points. Even during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two of the biggest shopping days of the year.

This leads us to believe that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge price will be steep and it leads us to believe that Verizon Galaxy Note Edge deals will be non-existent when it finally does arrive. Something to keep in mind as we push deeper into the year and as top flight phones like the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 drop in price.

New Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Details

We’ve discovered some new Galaxy Note Edge release details lurking on Samsung’s site. The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge product page used to list the device in two colors, white and black. Now, the device is only listed in black. This hints at a limited release for Verizon Galaxy Note Edge buyers and it mirrors what we’ve seen at other U.S. carriers.

Galaxy Note Edge Photos - 10

AT&T stocks both the white and black models but Sprint only stocks the black model. This doesn’t rule out a white Galaxy Note Edge on Verizon but it does make one less likely. So, those of you who are thinking about buying the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge will need to keep that in mind as we inch closer to the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date.

Thank you for the updates. I’m getting very irritated at the slow release. I’m seriously thinking about getting the unlocked version simply so verizon doesn’t profit off my purchase.

Good idea. With verizon already drawing this out and talks already about some February 2015 releases (s6 and s6 Edge) seems like it might just be better to wait. I know anticipation for a new phone is a hard “mode” to regress from but only thing worse I can think of is buying top quality only to hear about an ever better one coming out next week..perhaps even for less

Overall the worst product launch I have heard of. Its at the point where I dont even want to support this release and its a real shame because I firmly believe in both innovation and pushing the boundaries. In the off chance any Samsung affiliate is reading, my lack of support is directed towards verizon vice the phone. For a communication corporation to leave its customers in the dark, playing guessing games, and over a month behind is unacceptable and I implore to any reading this with interest towards purchasing, NOT to support this verizon release/model. Im still on the prehistoric galaxy s3 and after weeks of waiting, instead of upgrading my plan, ill be taking my business elsewhere.

I got fed up with waiting as well, and I have been fed up with Verizon in general for a long time anyway. Since I have been off contract for half a year, I just took my business to AT&T. I love AT&T so far and I highly recommend switching to them!

Hey Jurd? How is the building penetration on AT&T? Over the past year or so, Verizon has really “pissed in my cheerios.” Their customer service, coverage, and building penetration are great, they are getting way too damned expensive, and with locking down their bootloaders, filing their phones with bloatware, and now 3 days shy of being 1 month behind everyone else on this release; I really want to make the switch. The issue I’ve had in the past with another carrier is that I frequently am at a customer’s location and need to use my phone to run a credit card, does me no good, if I can’t get signal. T-Mobile has no penetration at all and frequently I had to jump on the customer’s wifi or go outside to run that card. Either way, embarassing. Anyway, if you could let me know how the building penetration is, I would really appreciate it.

I’ve also been considering leaving Verizon. They have been letting us down. No release date. Who does that? Very disappointed!

Gotta hand it to Verizon. They can keep a secret better than the CIA. Hey Adam, can you try a little harder to get us some hard information? Maybe a little pressure from the “Press”? Why should Verizon care about telling us when they’re releasing the Edge?

Seams to me that Samsung is having issues making enough of these for Verizon. It was always going to be a limited production phone but I have to believe that if Verizon could get enough of them to sell them they would be selling them now. Instead they must be waiting for a shipment date from Samsung.

      12/10/2014 at 8:24 am

I doubt this is a Samsung issue, this is Verizon, locking down the phone harder than Fort Knox, locking the boot loader, making it impossible to root, loading it full of their BS bloatware. If this were a Samsung issue, I think Verizon would have said, “hey everyone we are trying to get this out, but Samsung has fallen short during production.” Hell AT&T and T-Mobile had not problem saying it after the release.

I’m getting so tired of Verizon doing this crap! They are the last to release anything including software updates. I can only speculate that they are pushing as much bloatware of theirs as they can into this phone before release. I’ve be seriously contemplating on jumping ship to t-mobile or sprint. I just don’t want to lose my unlimited data, sprint has it but I think they throttle you after 5 gb.

I’m seriously thinking about leaving verizon over this phone yes I said it…. It’s crazy how they are leaving us customers out in the cold over a phone. They know something. And plus they don’t offer the best of phones anyway.

  9. Tired of Waiting

    12/08/2014 at 11:44 pm

I went to a Verizon store in Chicago and the rep told me he is waiting for the phone himself but knows they are not going to release it anytime soon. I went on to tell him that is why I took one of my numbers and ported it to Sprint and pulled out my Note Edge. People are tired are of waiting and will go to the competition that carries what they want. I love Verizon’s service but waiting and knowing that other carriers have a device I want and your company does not….will cause me to leave. So far loving the Note Edge and no issue with Sprint’s service.

I talked to a Verizon rep yesterday and she told me that is due to come out December 22, 2014, so according to her the wait is almost over!

Got tired of waiting for Verizon. Went to T-Mobile. Good coverage in my area, cheaper, and straight answers. Bye bye Verizon

I think the reason for the late release is because they have alot of money invested in the Droid line. I remember in the pay when the s3 came out they help it up because they were trying to release that phone. It will probably be after the holidays before it is released. Sucks for us but it is as simple as giving individuals the choices iphone, Droid turbo, or note 4.

I switched to att, I’m loving this phone! It’s a shame verizon waits this long to put out a hot device. My best guess is they are trying make an app for the side screen and have been failing! Lol verizon sucks! Everyone should make the big switch!

      12/16/2014 at 4:43 am

Went to AT&T also. I’ve love the phone, I like AT&T, Their signal stength isn’t as good as Verizon’s is indoors. Honestly which as much as I loath Verizon, I will switch back at some point, their 4G is faster and stronger and soon they will be GSM just like everyone else, which means we can finally use unlocked phones on their network.

I have 4 lines with verizon & my family wants to switch to At&T. I have been a Bernal wall holding the fort for Verizon. but i can’t anymore. I guess we are switching to AT&T. I tried my best Gave Verizon more than enough time to give any info regarding release date, “Hey Guys! Due to whatever reason Edge will be available on Dec,2 2014 or January, 25 2015. AS Long As there was any update it would have been ok. But how rude & disrespectful to it’s customers. Shame on Verizon. They are on Santa’s Bad list.

Yep. I think I’m going to switch to sprint. Been waiting for this phone since I saw it at ces 2012. I talked to a rep and they said they have no idea and pushed hard for me to get the 4. I’m not on contract anymore and have unlimited data which I would hate to lose. But I want this phone.

      12/30/2014 at 5:12 am

      Ron,

One piece advice, you have been on the strongest and fastest network, you will hate sprint. Their building penetration is horrible and their coverage area isn’t so great either. They’really signal is on a much higher frequency than Verizon which only mean that they have the ability to have a faster network, but they suck at that too. If you switch for this phone, do the phone and yoursyourself justice and go to AT&T. They are on a lower frequency like verizon and have a much better building penetration. I made the switch to AT&T 3 weeks ago for the Note EEdge and have yet to find an area that I don’t have coverage. Their network is great, VerizonVerizon’s is the best, but at&t is a strong 2nd place.
