Verizon’s 4G LTE Droid Smartphones Drop in Price

Published

on

A couple of 4G LTE Droid smartphones on Verizon including the Motorola Droid Bionic and the Motorola Droid RAZR have dropped in price through the carrier’s web store. It also looks like the upcoming Motorola Droid 4 has seen its rumored price drop even further.

For one reason or another, Verizon has yet to make the pricing and release date of the Droid 4 official. And while we had heard that it might be launching for $249.99 on a new two year contract, new evidence indicates that the device may in fact launch for $199 with the signing of a new two year agreement. That’s a stellar starting price for a phone that we awarded our Best Smartphone of CES 2012.

The new pricing comes from Verizon’s most recent MAP, which stands for Minimum Advertised Price, and is courtesy of Droid-Life.

In addition, some of Verizon’s other Droid devices have seen their prices drop.

One of them is the Motorola Droid Bionic, a phone that had the unfortunate task of competing for the hearts of consumers with both the iPhone 4S and Motorola Droid RAZR. It has dropped to $149 on-contract at Verizon.

In addition, the original Droid RAZR 32GB has fallen to $279.99 on-contract. That price cut applies to both the black and white models. The Samsung Droid Charge and the Droid X2 currently are available for a mere $50 on-contract.

Back to the Droid 4 though.

It’s clear that Verizon is waiting for two things to happen before it launches it.

One, it wants its Droid 3 stock to dwindle further and the discount that it’s currently offering on it should be helping. And two, it probably wants to give the Droid RAZR MAXX some breathing room.

So when will it come out?

It’s looking like February is probably going to be the month as that is when the deal for the Droid 3 ends. As for a specific date, that’s currently up in the air. But the Droid 3 deal ends on February 6th so that might be a date to circle.

In the meantime, be sure to check out our Droid 4 hands-on and a comparison between it and the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX.

You can find the discounted Droids here at Verizon.
