Wait for Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Continues

Published

on

Like their HTC ThunderBolt brethren, Motorola Droid Bionic owners continue to wait for any sort of official information about the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update release date.

The update, which was promised for early Q3, remains unofficial and neither Motorola nor Verizon has let owners know when they should expect it.

In fact, as we’ve already mentioned, neither company has done anything to clarify exactly what “early Q3” means. And it’s that ambiguous term that has Droid Bionic owners frustrated once again.

Yesterday finally brought a bit of news to Droid Bionic owners, hungry for their scoop of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Droid Bionic ICS wait continues.

Another leaked Droid Bionic build emerged which indicates that Motorola is still working on the update. Unfortunately, it’s unclear exactly what the update means in terms of a release date.

It could be that the leaked version is the final version of the Droid Bionic ICS update. The update is said to have security measures and run smoother than any of the previous Droid Bionic ICS leaks.

Or, owners could look at the glass half-empty. Because the update appears to still be in Motorola’s hands and not in Verizon’s, the update could still be a ways off.

Remember, we’ve heard that it was slated to roll out in mid-August and that it was delayed because of the issues plaguing the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX after they were updated to Android 4.0.

So, it could be that Motorola is still ironing some things out.

What’s clear though is that owners continue to wait in silence, wondering when the update is going to arrive. And the sting could get even worse if Motorola decides to announce the Droid RAZR HD this Friday with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board.

It’s looking like it might run ICS, but it would be a shame to see Moto and Verizon announce a device with the latest software while the still-capable Droid Bionic is still stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

So hopefully, some news emerges soon to make the wait for ICS more bearable for Droid Bionic owners.

If you’re going to embed a picture within your post about the Bionic, it might have been nice that it actually WAS a Bionic. Just sayin’.

That was the Droid Bionic at one time! =) Anyway, I blame WordPress for the error. The image has been changed though to reflect the true, and glorious might I add, Droid Bionic.

Give users the option to manual update to ics with possible bugs and have to update later with bug fix and make user that want to wait for the “non buggy ics” wait bc lets face it the “non buggy ics” will have bugs and need an update so why not give it to us by midnight tonight let me choose what i want

Hopefully the 4G will work better than the current gingerbread release does. The last release is worse for me than the one before. Won’t stay connected.

The latest update has destroyed my 4g and made my wifi so slow it’s unbearable. Even with a 100 mb/s connection it takes 5 min to load a website. I think Verizon should reimburse Bionic owners for the release of an obviously broken / sunsetting update, and get ICS out fast as possible. The last two months I’ve had to put my phone in airplane mode, restart, then take off airplane mode to get consistant 4g for maybe 30 min. This is not what I signed up for.

You guys should definitely install the leak builds……….4g to 3g switching works a million times better than before and the phone runs soooooo much smoother. I wouldn’t go higher than the .232 leak though because once you go past 235, you can’t revert back to GB.

I was having similar issues after the last update and then I had a lock screen problem which caused me to do a factory reset. This solved all problems and the phone is now kick ass again. I am sure ICS will get you there as well but in the short term it only takes about an hour or two to get it all back up and running again.

Same here… After the last update, my phone constantly drops 4G connection at my house. It used to have a steady, very fast connection.

Well atleast Verizon and Motorola are updating their line of phones. Us AT&T customers are still waiting for a taste of ics on our ATRIX devices, and the new ATRIX HD is a slap in the face and salt in our wounds.

Any truth to the rumor that the ICS update will enable the GSM capability that the hardware apparently does have?

I was in my local Verizon store last night a d asked about the bionic ics release date and was told looks like September. I would love to instal the leak because I’m sure it’s 95% complete but it’s such a pain to have a rooted phone and have to flash all updates instead of just receiving them over the air. However ics will be very welcome in the bionic because gingerbread on Motorola looks so outdated it’s looked the sAmerican since the Droid x

When the official comes out will we be able to downgrade after updating or will we be locked into it. cuz if I don’t like ICS , I don’t want to be stuck with it.
