Who’d a Thunk It? Apple Approves Opera Mini Browser for iPhone

Published

Well, well, well. Most thought this would never happen but it has. Apple has approved the Opera Mini Browser app for the iPhone and it is now available for download in the iTunes App store.

Given the fits and starts about app approval, I, like many never thought Apple would approve this and thought the folks behind Opera where attempting to back Apple into a corner with their aggressive PR campaign. Apple states up front that they won’t allow an app that duplicates functions of its core apps, but then again, there are other browsers in the app store apparently.

I haven’t tried this out yet, but probably will soon.

I’ve used it and it is hardly anything special. Mobile google reader doesn’t work well (format gets messed up going to the iPhone version) and I don’t see an increase in browsing speed compared to safari over 3g or wifi. Good try though. And you gotta remember once you hit home it will close the browser unless you’re jailbroken with backgrounder.

I like that it seems pretty fast (although I only used it for about a minute after I downloaded it). It’s much better than the blackberry one at least.
