Why You Shouldn’t Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Right Now

Published

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a good phone, a great phone even almost a year of existence. However, those who may be in the market for a smartphone right now or in the next month of so would be wise to hold off on buying Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2.

In August of last year, Samsung debuted the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a device that replaced the original Galaxy Note on shelves and with a number of enhancements including a larger display, improved design, and a host of new carriers including Sprint and Verizon. The original Galaxy Note had only been available on AT&T and for a short time on T-Mobile.

It also came equipped with a new ergonomic S Pen and some unique software that included the now prevalent Multi-Window View which allows users to split up the massive display and use two applications at the same time.

The device remains one of the most unique and best smartphone options on the table at the moment and it’s certainly a device that will be tempting to those in the market for a new device in the weeks ahead.

Indeed, a year after its launch, the Galaxy Note 2 is still very relevant and will continue to be thanks to declining price tags and upcoming software updates that will keep it fresh. The device is expected to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in the weeks ahead and it should get some of the software from the Galaxy S4 as well.

The Galaxy Note 2 has been a fantastic buy, that is, up until right now. For the moment, those in the market for a new smartphone should think about not buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Here’s why.

Why You Shouldn’t Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Right Now

The first thing to note is that we aren’t saying don’t buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. What we are instead saying is that you shouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 right now. And here’s the first reason why.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

We are on the verge of a new Samsung Galaxy Note model. Samsung sent out invitations earlier this month for a launch event on September 4th and it’s clear that it will be talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

What this means is that prospective Galaxy Note 2 buyers only need to wait a few more weeks before the new model arrives, a model that is supposed to surpass its predecessor in more ways than one.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch event is on for September 4th.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch is slated for September 4th.

The Galaxy Note 3 is expected to have a larger display at 5.68-inches with 1080p resolution, a better processor in the improved Exynos 5 Octa and Snapdragon 800, a 13MP camera, LTE, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, a host of improved or new S Pen apps, a design similar to the Galaxy Note 2 and tons of carriers including AT&T and Verizon. It’s also supposed to have fantastic battery life.

So in just about every way, the Galaxy Note 3 seems like it will be the better device. Whether that is the case or not remains to be seen, but those interested in the Galaxy Note 2 should simply wait a few weeks before buying to see what the Galaxy Note 3 is all about.

At that point, not only will there be more options but even if the Galaxy Note 3 is unimpressive, the Galaxy Note 2 should see a sharp dip in price thanks to the new model and at that point, buyers can pick it up without remorse.

HTC One Max

There is another bonus for waiting a few weeks. HTC, the maker of the popular Galaxy S4 rival, the HTC One, is expected to debut its own large screen smartphone in September as well.

The HTC One Max, a 5.9-inch HTC One-like beast is expected to compete against the Galaxy Note 3 and from the looks of things, it could be a very worthy challenger. It has the hardware which includes a 1080p display, quad-core processor, Ultrapixel camera and metal design and HTC’s software pedigree which includes HTC Scribe and HTC Sense 5.

This is the HTC One Max.

This is the HTC One Max.

HTC’s One Max software isn’t confirmed other than Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but there are rumors it could boast a stylus, meaning it could wind up with some very unique features on board, features that could rival the Galaxy Note 3’s and Galaxy Note 2’s.

It’s a device that is worth a look and given that its launch is only a few weeks away, it’s another reason to hold off on buying the Galaxy Note 2 right now.

iPhone 5S

If that wasn’t enough, Apple is expected to debut the iPhone 5S on September 10th. It’s not a large screen phone like the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3 or HTC One Max, but it’s a device that is intriguing nonetheless given that it could possess some powerful features.

Rumors suggest a fantastic camera, fingerprint reader for added security and a better processor. It will also almost certainly have iOS 7 on board along with the iPhone 5’s industrial design. It should also have a Retina Display.

Whatever the case, it’ll be a big time smartphone and one that all smartphone shoppers will want to consider as their next device. And even if it doesn’t persuade prospective Galaxy Note 2 buyers to buy, at least the option will have been there.

At that point, the Galaxy Note 2 may seem like the more attractive buy, whether it’s price or otherwise, but at least you waited and made a more informed decision. A decision that is less likely to come back and haunt months down the road into a new contract.

First of all, the author’s writing is terrible. And I’m not talking grammar.
The second and last: iPhone??? WTF??? You just need to stick it everywhere and you actually dared to compare it to these other great phones you mentioned? Man, it’s not even close.

Important point missed is thr pricing. On Note 2 in india we are getting almost at 40% discount with EMI option. All the above handsets would be very costly. I still feel note 2 product cycle is not yet over and it will be risky to for new products so early as in case with many S4 buyers

Now is actually a great time to buy a Note 2. I just got mine.

    I use https://www.swappa.com/

If I know that I REFUSE to get a subsidized upgrade from my carrier, and that I have to pay full price for my phone anyway (since, if I use ‘an upgrade’, I lose unlimited data)…

I don’t know why I’d be waiting for a new device, when I’m not about to drop $700-800 on a phone.

$360 shipped to me with a case for the Note 2. Which is the best phone I can get on Verizon right now, for me (I wanted that 5.55″ screen). I can’t complain about that.

    Perfect time to buy it.

This is actually a GOOD write-up for people who buy subsidized upgrades, and who would spend $200-300 on a Note 2 right now instead of the same price on a Note 3 very soon.

But this country (the US) is starting to wake up to the ripoff that is Subsidized phone plans, and this article will become increasingly irrelevant as a result. But thank you anyway.

I love the galaxy note 2. My only fear is the sudden death syndrome that is affecting the device now.

I got my note 2 back in February this year I bought brand new for about £480, that is the most ive spent on a phone! Ive got to say i was very very impressed, the apps, the features it holds are really good !, very simple to use!

I know alot of people with iphones and they bang on how great they are when infact they are Crap (pardon my language) but my opinion is that the Galaxy Note 2 is far the best phone on the market so far!
