Why You Shouldn’t Buy the Galaxy Note Edge Right Now

Published

on

The first Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the U.S. is finally here and Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders have begun. While the Galaxy Note Edge might be a tempting device, especially to those that have been waiting for this day, we’re here to tell you that there are some very good reasons why you shouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge right now.

A little over two months ago, Samsung executives took the stage in Berlin, Germany and announced a number of new products. While the company put the spotlight on the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the company also announced its new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, a device that shares many of the Galaxy Note 4′s features but comes with a curved display.

The Galaxy Note Edge is a limited edition concept phone and one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a unique curved display.

Consumers in the United States have been keeping their eye on this high-profile phone since its arrival in September though up until a few days ago, U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date information was non-existent. A short time ago, Samsung and several of its U.S. carriers finally confirmed Galaxy Note Edge release information and today, right on cue, AT&T started offering the Galaxy Note Edge in select stores. It’s also now taking pre-orders online ahead of a November 14th shipping date.

Retailers like Expanys and eBay are also offering early pre-orders for the Galaxy Note Edge and Sprint and T-Mobile are both expected to release the phone in just a few short days. And while these offers might be tempting to some of you, there some reasons why you should consider holding off on taking a Galaxy Note Edge pre-order or buying the Galaxy Note Edge today.

Here’s why you shouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge right now.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is now available in the United States though the release is limited to pre-orders for the unlocked model at select retailers and AT&T. Sprint and T-Mobile plan to release the device next week, so there’s no reason to jump right in with the AT&T model or the unlocked version right now and we still don’t have any idea when the Verizon or U.S. Cellular models will touch town. We don’t even have price points for those two models either.

There is no reason to rush into buying this concept smartphone, none at all. You’re going to be better off waiting to absorb all of the Galaxy Note Edge release date information including the missing details from Verizon and U.S. Cellular so that you can make a better, well informed decision. You’re also going to be better off skipping expensive pre-orders (eBay) and pre-orders that come with an unknown price tag (Expanys). There are simply too many question marks there and it’s best to avoid question marks if you can.

Wait for the bigger picture to emerge. U.S. Cellular and Verizon announcements probably aren’t too far off and you should soon be able to weigh all five variants against each other. There is very little choice right now. Choice is always a good thing when it comes to smartphones because it means you can pick the optimal data plan and network size for you.

Be patient.

Galaxy Note Edge Price

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is not going to be cheap. It’s going to cost way more than the Galaxy Note 4 off-contract and on-contract. Here’s how it breaks down, right now.

  • AT&T Galaxy Note 4 – $299.99 on-contract, $826 off-contract
  • AT&T Galaxy Note Edge – $399.99 on-contract, $945.95 off-contract
  • Sprint Galaxy Note 4 – $299.99 on-contract, $800 off-contract
  • Sprint Galaxy Note Edge – $840 off-contract
  • T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 – $749.76 off-contract
  • T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge – $870 off-contract
  • U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 4 – $299.99 on-contract, $770.16 off-contract
  • U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge – Unknown
  • Verizon Galaxy Note 4 – $299.99 on-contract, $700 off-contract
  • Verizon Galaxy Note Edge – Unknown

While we aren’t expecting any massive Galaxy Note Edge price drops to emerge in the weeks ahead, with Black Friday just weeks away, we could see some retailers or carriers offer some added incentives. In other words, there’s a reason to skip the Galaxy Note Edge release date. Take a rain check, wait a few weeks, and see if you can’t find a way to shave some dollars off the price.

There is absolutely no reason torush into things and pay full price for this phone, at least not yet. Give it some time, remain patient, and you might be able to score a deal around Black Friday or in December.

If You Haven’t Gone Hands-on

The Galaxy Note Edge is an expensive smartphone. It also a very unique smartphone. What this means is that you’re going to need to be absolutely sure that this is the right smartphone for you and it’s impossible to do that from behind a computer screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is about as unique as it gets. Not only does it come with a massive curved display , it also comes with an S Pen stylus. These aren’t going to be for everyone. We know plenty of Galaxy Note users that bought the device and rarely, if ever, used the S Pen. We also know several Galaxy Note users who wound up hating the device’s overall size, a product of the massive display.

This is not a smartphone that you can order blindly. You absolutely must go hands-on with the Galaxy Note Edge before buying it. You need to ensure that it’s the right size, you need to make sure that you want and need the curved display, and you need to ensure that the S Pen is going to be worth the price of admission.

Right now, that’s a problem. Most of you can’t go hands on with the Galaxy Note Edge. AT&T is the only place where you can try it out and only select AT&T stores have it on display. We highly recommend waiting until you can spend some time with it. Even those of you that are familiar with the Galaxy Note series will want to ensure that the screen is worth the extra price.

If You Haven’t Done Your Research

Do not make an impulse buy here. Again, do not buy this smartphone on a whim. If you haven’t researched the competition (LG G3, iPhone 6 Plus, etc), you haven’t narrowed down your data plan to a final choice, if you haven’t researched data plans, if you haven’t researched your local cellular networks, do not buy this phone right now.

We heard from a few frustrated iPhone 6 Plus buyers who were considering the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 because Apple’s device was extremely difficult to find. That was the wrong attitude to take then and it’s the wrong attitude to take right now. Use the delay as an excuse to go hands on with the iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy Note 4, and other competitors before you buy.

Keep in mind, we’ve been hands on with the Galaxy Note Edge and we think it’s a solid device. It’s a phone that we think many consumers should consider. We’re not saying that you should skip the Galaxy Note Edge altogether. What we are saying is that you shouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge right now. There’s a huge difference.

Do your homework, remain patient, and then make your play.

Reading this was a waste of time. You never said WHY we should not buy Note Edge, despite your article title stating “Why You Shouldn’t Buy the Galaxy Note Edge Right Now”. False advertising. I am never visiting your site again … fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, shame on me. And I don’t intend to shame myself. Sayonara!

Why wait? Most people are already doing business with a carrier they have had for years, and they aren’t going to change service for an individual phone’s price. The chance of any kind of deep discount for this phone on black Friday are slim. Most people have or have seen the bigger profile phones, so there is no great surprise there, and there are already plenty of in depth reviews on youtube, both pro & con, about the Edge. The only thing not known is how limited availability will be, especially at the outset…by telling people to wait, you may be subjecting them to backorders or supply problems. I preordered mine Friday Nov 7 at att.com and it will ship Nov 13-14. The att Next pricing is only $5-6 a month more than the Note 4, and as both a Note fan and tech enthusiast, I am happy that my order is in and within a week I will be using this innovative phone! The only reason to wait is until your favorite carrier starts selling it.

Gotta bemobile, I’ve been reading your articles about note edge for the past month, first and for most, you always always copy your previous article and add 2 bs lines to it and re publish, I know it’s you’re trick to be on the top of the news, but from my stand point and comparing you to all other big tech review sites, it’s a cheap trick and make real tech readers pretty annoyed , saying all that this article doesn’t worth even a penny! ! You need to know that the price doesn’t play a very big roll in these kind of situations, this is a unique, limited device and people like me who want to have the only bent screen phone in the world don’t give a Damn about price and want to know more about the real considerable tech reasons of whether buy this phone or not, I’m not looking to read an article who talks like my grandma , telling me to “wait” in order to save $50! On a $1000 phone!! REALLY???!!!!; this is your article after the first day of the release of one of the most intriguing phone devices?? You need to keep up guys, total waste of my time visiting your site,

This article was so bad it gave me cancer. If I followed this logic every time a new phone came out I’d probably still have a Motorola razr.

Listen. The edge is Samsung trying something new and different. It will either fly or fail. The people who chose to buy them know this. Waiting for more information, or to play with it hands on will not make any difference. This phone is for people who love the note series and want to try something new to see if it can flourish with future designs. They made the note 4 for those who want the latest specs, but don’t want anything different. It was a smart move not to force people to buy the edge.

I sincerely doubt anyone is debating to buy the edge. You either want it or you don’t.

I just, this article was so bad!

Dont buy the new phone because its new, wtf.. seriously? We understand its a new concecpt a few short years ago The Galaxy Note was a strange mysterious concept phone all you so called experts didnt think would sell, tried to ward us off… and now look… its still cutting edge(pun intended)

Any layman that reads this article do not listen to these so called experts, if we had over the last few years we would still be using phones with 3.5 inch screens without wifi because why would you need any of that?

    this is STUPID !
do you still remember how hard to get Nintendo Wii, or play station 3 when it first come out. sure, you can wait to save a few bucks, but is it worth it to wait maybe 3-6 months for more Note Edge to become available?

This article is horrific. How in the world an editor approved such trash ..both writer and editor should be fired. What the hell is this article meaning. It sounds to me like someone is working for apple or verizon here. I smell a fish…

Worthless article zero substance and completely hypocritically when you have been refreshing other articles about how great the phone is. Chasing a title to draw people to your site. Realty is I will always ignore you moving forward. After all, if I buy the edge now; why would I come back to your site?

Don’t buy the limited release Note Edge now. Wait until you can’t find one for sale anywhere. Got it. Genius.

I hoped I can get some information about the phone’s usability issues when I clicked the link. And what I found? A tons of trash repeatedly saying wait some more and save a bit of money.
Within that logic, none can buy anything until stuffs are finally sold in a discount store in half price.
