Windows Phone 7 Launch on Verizon Pushed Back To May?

Published

on

While we had heard that the HTC Trophy and thus, Windows Phone 7 would be launching on Verizon at some point in April, it looks like the launch of the device and Microsoft’s latest and greatest software has been pushed back to May.

HTC Trophy Offer

One quick look at the special offer that Verizon has made available to Microsoft employees for the HTC Trophy reveals that the offer’s deadline has been pushed back from April 7th to May 5th. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Trophy will launch in May, but it’s a pretty good indication there is another delay.

This strikes yet another blow to those hoping to get Windows Phone 7 on Big Red especially since it looked like a release was coming in the near future. Verizon’s tests on the device were reportedly going well and the device even made an appearance on Big Red’s website.

So, it looks like that April 15th release date that came from that leaked Verizon roadmap for the HTC Trophy probably won’t happen. Not the first time that Windows Phone 7 has missed a release date.

honestly, i wasn’t excited about this phone anyway. i’m not buying it just to say i have WP7. i would prefer something comparable to the Focus or better yet the Venue Pro. i mean how is this supposed to sell well against the Thunderbolts and iPhone 4’s currently in their lineup? not to mention the Incredible 2 and Galaxy S II. come on Verizon, you are really starting to piss me off with your lack of WP7 representation, and this is a half-assed attempt.

half assed hasn’t even happened yet that will be when they do release the old warehoused trophy after they load crapware and cripple functions they deem unnecessary, i do think they are playin w us. i do think this is too sell droids and icrap to show ms who is boss. hell my contract was up last june i’m nursing a phone just ordered a new battery to try to stay w verizon for a wp7 phone but am really close to looking into another carrier. verizon is the service that works where i travel and i always have service hard to give that up.

VZW has been showing MSFT the middle finger whereas stripping naked for Android. Doesn’t anyone not get this yet?

in all fairness, you can’t really say that wp7 missed a release date since one was never announced.

NO. NO. NO. This can’t be serious! I’ve spent the past four months thinking to myself “Verizon should be getting WP7 any day now…” because first it was supposed to come out in January, then February, then March, then April 15th. How much longer can this go on?…until the end of June?

Why won’t Verizon say anything? They don’t care to comment on the several “rumored” release dates that have passed? I guess Verizon just wants to pretend like WP7 is not happening.

This is driving me absolutely crazy. Ideally, I expected to be an owner of a Trophy about 3 months ago…but I thought a March release was a sure thing (with NoDo and Sprint getting WP7). This is just unacceptable. It’s like they’re forcing us to just give up on wishing for WP7 and buy a new Android instead.

I still haven’t given up on the April 15th release date completely though. *Fingers crossed*. Now if only Verizon could stop bending over for Android for one second, and say SOMETHING about WP7, that would be great.

A little frustrating. I’m a current iPhone 4 owner and a former AT&T customer who has had both android, iOS and WP7. WP7 is easily my favorite OS. Get a move on already.

Why give up on WP7???? Just give up on Verizon. If they think thay are the top dog and don’t have to satify the customers why be a customer. Verizon must have enough money so, I’m planning on taking my money and moving on to another company.

If they lose enough customers they might get the hint and start supporting the few they will have left.

First, you (guys writing these articles) start hyping an offer to Microsoft employees as a release date. Then you take an internal memo indicating a target date and hype that…
Now the internal offer is extended and you start screaming that the release date (which was not a release date) was pushed back. What the article should say is “We’re a bunch of morons- sorry, but we got it all wrong”
    – neither Microsoft nor Verizon ever said the product would be out before June. Perhaps if you took the time to responsibly research things before you hype them, and took some responsibility when you incorrectly reported something, there wouldn’t be so many pissed off people out th ere….

Rather than directing the anger towards Microsoft or Verizon, it should be directed at the collective YOU who misrepresent the facts and then blame the facts for misrepresenting themselves…. I do agree with the last sentence though- it would be nice if Verizon stopped bending over for Android… especially after they broke every MS bassed phone that they released for the passt 8 years…

      Totally agree!
Also – MS creates the sw, the hw and service providers have the final say in when those actually hit the market, right?

I would have to agree but on the other hand there have been leaked roadmaps from Verizon that shows the releases on March 24th as well leaked roadmap showing then April 15th. Always take it with a grain of salt but on the other hand the March 24th date also was showing the Thunderbolt on the 17th which in turn was accurate. I feel Verizon is holding off WP7 from its customers as it is trying to now push Apple iPhone4 and the 4G Thunderbolt and don’t need/want WP7 taking away any of their steam. When things peter out I’m sure Verizon will then release WP7 but also lose a good margin of their customers who are demanding their phone of choice as I am. If they are to wait so long and I’m stuck with my CrapBerry Storm2 which on a daily basis makes me want to smash the phone with a hammer I will leave Verizon and go with either AT&T or Sprint. Verizon has good coverage and the idea of having 4G in your hand is nice as well even as a future endeavor but shafting their customers with a lack of what I feel is a popular phone being on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and outside of the USA is pretty much covered by all other carriers it is irritating to feel like I am stuck on this contract and cannot go to another carrier that offers what I want without paying the penalty of early end of contract. To them it may be peanuts but in the end people will learn you need to care and cater to all your customers not just the ones willing to blindly buy whatever is on the shelves. I want WP7 and I want it NOW! Everyone else has it but Verizon… Maybe I should just switch so I can be covered by a company that offers all ranges of devices even if their network is a touch slower but will also eventually cover 4G.

In my humble opinion, Microsoft and Verizon better get their stuff together. I’ve been a loyal customer to both for more years than I care to mention. That being said, the continued delays is getting really really old. I am prepared to walk away from Verizon (3 personal phones as of now with one more coming, not to mention the business accounts) and while a clean break from Microsoft would be difficult, I can boycott the use of Outlook, Internet Explorer, Bing, etc.. This is silly… My tried and true Pocket PC is on its last legs. It may force my decision and, if it does, it won’t be pretty.

I can’t wait for the time when LTE becomes a reality and we completely decouple the phone from the service provider. Buy a phone, sign up with a plan… just like you do with your PC.

I am in the same situation. I use an HP Ipaq that is getting older and older every day and I need outlook, word and excel to do my work. I would love to move to one device a Windows 7 phone that does it all but I have been waiting for Windows 7 from Verizon for ever now and the moment my Ipaq goes I will be forced to go with someone who can solve my issues. I am off contract and have 4 Verizon phones so if I walk away some other service will be very happy.

“Offer valid THROUGH May 5th, 2011”

So instead of the Verizon Roadmap, you’re going to start a rumor based on an EXTENSION of a Microsoft employees deal that now lasts through May 5th? That would be like my using a coupon expiration date as the basis of a rumor that a product will no longer be available the month of the expiration.

Great, responsible, journalism there. Note the sarcasm. I’ll stick with the Verizon Roadmap rather than your FUD based on selective reading.

Not only that the deal is “extend your contract now for 2 years and you’ll be among the first to get your phone when it’s ready”. Verizon did the same thing with the original Touch Pro, and the TP2….. and they didn’t get it out till at least 6 months after AT&T got it.
What they are doing is locking in the MS employees who are as frustrated if not more over the amount of time its taking (for whatever reason) to get this out the door.

Yeah and do they really think we want that old phone? Where are the new phones, something better than the Droid X 2. I really would like a Win7 Phone but at this rate it will be out dated before it’s released. Or my contract will be up and I’ll just find a new provider.

Does no one realize that the ‘Mango’ update is said to come out in May…………. Verizon might be waiting to launch the device with the best possible format. just saying

VZW Loyalty has it’s rewards. NOT. I’ve been a Verizon customer ever since there was a Verizon. I’m also a WP7 developer, or trying to be. My first app is ready to test on a real phone and I’m not about to buy into an AT&T contract. The answer i get from my Microsoft contacts is “don’t know” and a smile. The answer from my local VZW store manager was “if I knew I wouldn’t tell you.” Now that is customer respect!

With the whole KIN fiasco, as much as I want a WP7 phone on big red, I don’t fault them sticking it to MS. MS needs to get their act together.

I just went to the Verizon site and skewered them for the lack of information and support. Recommned you all do the same if not already done. Have all your friends to the same.

Should have said it’s a very subtle feedback button that pops up on the side when you got to the wireless site. Interestingly enough, a search on Windows 7 phone brings not one article. Such pathetic service….
