Windows Phone 7 Launching May 5th on Verizon? (Updated)

Published

on

According to a report from WinRumors, the launch of the HTC Trophy on Verizon is imminent and it could come as soon as this Thursday, May 5th.

HTC Trophy

If true, this would be a dream come true for those that have been waiting for months for Microsoft’s software to show up on Big Red. We had also recently heard that the launch might not come until May 12th, so the fact that it could come 6 days earlier than expected should also be exciting.

May 5th date is apparently Microsoft’s internal marketing date for Windows Phone 7’s launch on Verizon which means that there very well could be a change, but it’s looking like we could see it come this week.

The HTC Trophy is expected to be the first device to hit Verizon’s airwaves with the HTC 7 Pro (likely with a different name) coming sometime thereafter.

Verizon will be the last of the main three carriers in the United States to get Windows Phone 7.

Update: Looks like that May 5th date was just wishful thinking. It appears that the internal marketing date has been moved to May 19th.

Verizon didn’t happen to say what year this date applies to, did they. The date seems to be constantly being pushed out. I bet we don’t see anything until June. I think Verizon is using the old carrot and stick method to hope that we all don’t bail to another carrier because Verizon is so slow. I bet we see Nokia Windows Phones on sale before Verizon gets the Trophy.

Very Cool. I know a few people that have old Droids eagerly waiting for this to happen, that will be upgrading to Windows Phone 7

At least now all the fake Verizon dates are Thursdays.

Why not just list all the Thursdays until June 30th as the possible release dates. It would save us a lot of time thinking you guys actually know what you are talking about.

Verizons release date will be May 12, May 19, May 26, June 2, June 9, June 16, June 23 or June 30th

Apple, Google, Oracle, and Verizon vs. Microsoft… Interesting… The plot thickens. Endless delays… Fake dates… Shunning Silverlight… Hmmmm….. Why? Innovation? No…. Silicon Valley vs. Redmond? Perhaps… Pay back time? Probably based upon the egos involved.

The only saving grace: Mono for Android (and iPhone) with Moonlite (by Novell — the only company that REALLY has an axe to grind with MS).

Not sure when the release date is, but the HTC Trophy is coming. If you look at VZW Business Guide for Spring/Summer 2011 the phone is listed as “Coming Soon” with a picture of the device. Like MS said they will have it by June 30…hopefully a little before. Verizon sales people are trying to use scare tactics at current customers say they aren’t getting them, but VZW has it in the Business Guide. You can tell who VZW loves the most.

I was just in my local VW store yesterday, and the new product guide has the HTC Trophy listed (an not as a coming soon poroduct); so the release is coming very soon!
