Xbox One Release Date Delivery, Day One Upgrades Arrive from Amazon

Published

on

Amazon is upgrading Xbox One pre-orders to the special Day One Edition with an even better upgrade, delivery on the Xbox One Release date.

Like many I ordered an Xbox One at Amazon and, due to my late order, Amazon notified me that it would ship around January 2nd. I didn’t expect to get the Day One version since I waited so long to order. Amazon notified me of my shipping date and said that date wasn’t even sure.

This morning Amazon sent an update saying that my preorder got upgraded to the Xbox One Day One Edition and would ship on November 22, 2013 instead of the earlier quoted ship date of January 2. Needless to say, Amazon and Microsoft really came through. It would seem Microsoft had a larger collection of “Xbox One Day One Edition” consoles than they previously estimated.

What’s an Xbox One Day One Edition? According to the Xbox site…

The Day One Edition includes a commemorative controller, Xbox One chat headset, an exclusive achievement, and special-edition packaging.

Getting one of the official “day one” date is the biggest benefit. Here’s Microsoft’s unboxing video of the console showing what’s inside.

We’re excited to get the Xbox One Day One Edition on the release date instead of waiting till January for the ordinary Xbox without extras.

The Xbox One boasts more than next generation gaming prowess. Buyers will get a multimedia console that users will control by voice and motion thanks to the included Kinect interface. The Kinect for Xbox 360 costs extra and offers less functionality. With the Xbox One version users will tell their Xbox to fire up a movie or play music. The camera will recognize them when they enter the room and automatically sign them into their Xbox account, ready to start their games from last saved spots. The system also plays Blu-ray discs and controls a user’s TV service box. It also streams media from a user’s Skydrive account.

Xbox-One

We’ve heard that a brand new Xbox One won’t play games out of the box until a user downloads an update. This might annoy some at best or anger confused users at worst. Plan for an upgrade upon opening the device. This could create problems on Day One if the Microsoft Servers can’t handle the load. It will also cause problems Christmas day since that’s when a lot of the consoles will get opened by excited kids who will hate waiting to play their new games. We hope the company will beef up servers so the update downloads quickly.

I was wondering if others were notified. I got the same notification. Very excited. Thanks Kevin for this article. Good reference for those that also pre-ordered a little after the initial push.
