Toughbooks Get a Tough Test

summit That tough test is up at about 19,341 feet (5,895 meters)!!  This test would subject it to a wide variety of environmental changes.  Imagine the stress, cold, heat, moisture, rocks…  It sure is a wonderful test for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-19.  It’s too bad about the GPS software in the article, it would have been really cool to see the path the rugged little guy took up the mountain.

The article follows day by day accounts of the trip and has a happy ending at the summit:

Trying to catch my breath, I pulled out the Toughbook. Temperatures at the top in the morning can get as low as 16 degrees Fahrenheit. The wind blew around me as the computer booted up, unaffected by the chill that had frozen the water in my canteen. It was 7:28 a.m. I had three hours, 56 minutes of battery time left. I took off my gloves to type in my impressions of being on the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, but it was far too cold for me to leave my fingers exposed for long. Switching the laptop into a tablet and using a stylus would have helped. The Toughbook fared better than I did on the top of the mountain.
